  • We completed an amazing 4-day hike in Kyrgystan's Tian Shan mountain range. Initially, we were planning on doing the 7 day Ak Su Transverse trek that goes to Ala Kul Lake, however, due to a huge storm we didn't complete the last three days.
Our journey started with a bus from Karakol to the village of Jyrgalan, we then completed 60km over four days to reach Alytn-Arashan. We stayed in one yurt camp and wild camped the rest of the way.
We saw nomads on horses, passed by yurts, goats and cows, and some beautiful snow-covered mountains.

It’s easy to forget that there is so much wild terrain in the world, although it might look a bit different in winter. Good river crossing!

Last year when I was in Kyrgyzstan, I trek to Ala Kul Lake (in the Tian Shan Mountains) from Karakol (starting from Ak Suu Village). Day 1 : Ak Suu to Altyn Arashan Valley , spend the night in Altyn Arashan Valley (there are lots of guesthouses). Day 2 : Altyn Arashan Valley to Ala Kul Lake and return back to Altyn Arashan Valley by evening, spend the night in Altyn Arashan Valley. Day 3 : Return back to Karakol by trek or 4x4, I took the 4x4. It was a very good experience. So If someone wants to do a short trek for a day or two, you can easily do that in Kyrgyzstan, there are lot of options.

Amazing video. Do you think a guide is required for the full 7 days hike?

I think you could do it without a guide if you are prepared to carry food for 7 days!

Gorgeous scenery. But I would break a leg and get stuck in the worst storm to hit in 1000 years if I tried even hiking the small neighborhood park.

We used maps.me app! Sometimes there weren’t trails, but as long as you know which valley you are heading towards or lake it is ok!

Hello congratulations for the video. I wanted to ask you for information how did you bring the drone? I leave on August 4th and I would like to bring the drone but I read that it is forbidden. How did you do it? Have you asked for permissions?
