- Carnival Cruise Lines, 1985 built Holiday. The Holiday was Carnival's second newbuild. She sailed for Carnival from 1985-2009. She then sailed as the Grand Holiday from 2010-2014 for Ibero Cruceros. She is currently sailing as the Magellan for Cruise & Maritime Voyages (CMV).
Boy! I wish these ships were still around. The old style cruising was so much better than the modern cruises. I sailed on the Holiday in 1988.
I worked on this ship in Sept 1988, met my son's father Jimmy Palmer on it, I worked as a croupier he was the book keeper. All meant to happen, now I'm a grandmother of a handsome grandson Nova.
Loved the Holiday ship. I worked on that ship as a photographer.
My grandfather was Carnival’s casino director during that time. The Holiday was one of the last ships i traveled on with him. Great memories. Thanks for the upload.
Ah. When 46,000 GRT was large and that signature funnel was like a crown atop a Carnival ship. Now, 46,000 GRT is quaint and that distinctive funnel is like a tree stump atop an apartment block at sea.
This was beautiful. Thanks for sharing it!
This takes me back - I worked on the Holiday as a croupier, before transferring the Celebration and then into Holland America's Westerdam.
I took the original Celebration in 2019 during it's late run stint with BPCL. I had to. I love cruise ships so much. I've been going since I was 10 and my first was the Fantasy. This was back in 04.
I served on the Cruise Staff (Social Host we were then called) on the Holiday from September 1996 - November 1996, then was sent to the Carnival Ecstasy in Miami to finish my 6 month contract. I had a great time on the Holiday. The ship was ported out of Los Angeles at that time, so we had quite a few people from CA on board for most cruises. I remember lots of pretty California girls!! Yes, the Beach Boys were correct about that one!
Nostalgia, for sure. I sailed on this ship during her inaugural season, during August of 1985. I cannot count the number of times I heard “Holiday” by Madonna played on the cruise!
Thanks for this Uploader!! :) I can't with how old this is. It's just marvelous. I can speak for all the cruise ship enthusiast out there, this is just great - no idea how much this means to us!
I'm glad you have enjoyed it. I am a cruise ship enthusiast as well and I have many more videos coming over the course of the next few months. Enjoy!
Man I miss this ship :'( I've been on nine Carnival cruises and sailed Holiday in 2008 out of Mobile. The crew on Holiday was absolutely the most personable, happiest crew out of all the ships I've been on. You could tell they all absolutely adored the Holiday and they would tell you they did! Sure, it was a little tired and worn, but it was just so charming. And it was so easy to navigate without having the Atrium in the middle. With the collapse of CMV, I'm really worried she may end up on the beaches of Turkey now. :'(
Sadly, I think she will end up on the beach.
I agree, one of our favorite trips and the staff in 2008 was amazing. Do you happen to recall the Ports of Call it visited back at that time?
Thank you for sharing this! Just found out (via carnival because my first two cruises had no ship name) this was the first ship I went on… in 1994!!!
My first cruise was onboard the MS Celebration when I was less than a year old. I remember absolutely none of it, so thank you so much for this video/upload.
It stinks that the Jubilee already went for scrap and that so many of the Fantasy class are going to as well. I really liked the Tropical platform of cruise ships that sailed for Carnival Cruise Line and yeah. With the death of Knut Kolster, this is really feeling like the end of an era for cruising, so thank you again, so much for these uploads. Keep up the good work 👍
I went on the former Celebration last year. Loved it. Love the Holiday ships, they're just right
I cruised her in 1997. It was my second cruise with Carnival.
This takes me back my first cruise was on Holiday
Aw you were lucky. My first cruise was on Fantasy. I managed to sail on Grand Celebration last year though and it was great! I love the Holiday class ships, they're just right
My First Cruise was on Costa Pacífica a italy ship of Costa Cruises
I was the Macho Man on the Holiday in 1998. My first cruise to Ensanada. They had the best food better than the bigger ships.
@@grand_vacation Aww my first cruise was also on the Fantasy. Although it was a small ship I still had a great time.
Mine too. Its an incredible ship
Got off carnival horizon today but the holiday definitely didn’t compare to the horizon at all, the mood and nostalgia definitely hits different!
Thank you for uploading this nostalgic masterpiece! This was funnily enough, one of my favorite VHS films to watch as a kid. Almost 32 now, have never been on a cruise before. This just gave me a ton of memories back from my childhood that I had forgotten about though! :.)
My wife and I took this cruise ship on our honeymoon to Passion Island Mexico. Great time.
My family was struggling economically in this era, so I never imagined I would one day take a cruise. While the industry has certainly improved since the 80s, I still think it’s a great value vacation. I’ll be going on my second cruise and we are taking our own kids on this one. They won’t have to wait until they brown to be exposed to other people and cultures.
I was on its maiden voyage to the Caribbean, still a memorable trip!
My first and only cruise was on this ship when I was a kid and I remember they found a bomb on it when we got back to port in 95
I had a friend win a cruise on the holiday, he had fun,but for some reason got board,I went on the Paradise, dont know how you can get board just lounging with ocean breezes and a tropical drink.my friend past away years later,he inspired me to go on mine, sorry I wasnt impressed with the holiday it was old.I like like the huge ones.
Sailed on her in 1990. Been cruising for over 32 years. Wish CARNIVAL would make some smaller new ships agin. Not everybody wants the mega ships.
Thank you so much ! It’s amazing
Welcome, glad you have enjoyed it!
my first cruise was on board the carnival sensation in 2016 with my mom and dad and my second and 3rd cruise was on board the carnival vista i have been on carnival vista 2 times both in 2019 so much fun carnival is 1 of the best cruise lines besides royal caribbean and norwiegen and disney and costa and holland amaerica and adia and celebrity and all the other cruise lines if i wanted to go on a cruise i would pick carnival
My first cruise I was only 10 years old and it was on the Fantasy in January 2004. My second was the Inspiration in November 2005. I miss old Carnival! But new Carnival is even better! My jaw was on the floor watching Mardi Gras arrive to Port!
1st cruise was on the Holiday May 2009, came back to home port sideways because we were sinking. Port hole pooped/busted out. Scared us half to death BUT went on another cruise about 5 months later… lol just took our kids 1st cruise last fall, leaving for their 2nd in 1 day
I was on this ship in 1989. But I don't recall the Blue Lagoon Lounge having games. Plus I stumbled across a topless deck. I'm sure it was meant for the people in the shows so they wouldn't have tan lines. LOL!
Sounded like a mixed experience. 😂
We cruised on Holiday out of Mobile just before Carnival sold it. It wasn’t Carnival’s finest hour. The water from the taps was reddish brown and had an odd odor. We had to buy bottled water at Carnival’s inflated price just to brush our teeth and drink in the cabin. The water in the dining areas seemed fine though. There was the smell of sewage and wet carpet in the hallways and the ship was rusty and disheveled. The service crew was very good though and Diego, our waiter was excellent as was our cabin steward. Carnival lost me on that ship and I’ve never seen them quite the same, though we did sail with them some more.
we took the Fantasy out of Mobile a couple of years ago, and although it had sort of ugly ancient decor, it was fine. And I think it was scrapped and if cruising ever starts back up, the ships should be really clean and in good shape. You should try it again, get a Guy's hamburger.
look for carnival celebration promo video,I just watched it.
My first cruise was on Holiday in 1987
This my first ship when i was working on the cruise ship
This is absolutely marvelous!! 🛳❤️👍🏽

@Cruise Nostalgia It was just announced that the "Grand Celebration" (AKA "Carnival Celebration") was just scrapped in India. Any vids on the Carnival Celebration? The Celebration was our 1st cruise as well as for our Honeymoon back in 1990. Thanks!
Don't think I have any on Celebration.
Heard she just got sold for scrap smh. She was such a pretty lady in her heyday.
Pretty sure this ship is now scrapped.
She's still living, but docked in Oman as the company has paused operations. Looks like she is once again for sale.
