Your first cruise is always the best....so much fun experiencing what they have to offer and pretty much, everyone on the ship is there having a good tiime. Thanks for watching!!
It was one of the best vacations my wife and I got to experience while cruising aboard Carnival's HOLIDAY in October 1993. Your video brought back many great memories. Thanks for sharing. It was great to see inside the ship once again.
I remember that bus they had inside and thought it was such a cool decoration. We had great service and great ports and everyone had a ball. Fun to look back at it. Thanks for watching!!
I lived on the Holiday for 2 years 1987-89 as a casino croupier. I was probably on board when you filmed this! Thank you for this amazing video of my “ home”! ❤️It was great to see it again!
We took our honeymoon on the Holiday in 1991. Thanks for this video! It was lovely to see the ship again and hear “Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole” again! The dining experience was so much more elaborate back then. I remember the exquisite Midnight buffets with ice sculptures and so much gorgeous food at all times.
I am glad you enjoyed it....yep it was a shame when they started cutting back on all the things like the midnight buffet, top of the line food, etc. But they are trying to keep the prices down I guess. Hope your still cruising after all these years!
This video really brought back happy memories. I went on the Holiday in the summer of 1986 with family. We had been on the Carnivale a year earlier and that was so old, we couldn’t get over how modern and beautiful the Holiday was. I went on a handful of cruises and had the best time on the Holiday. It had a happy vibe. Thanks for sharing the video!
I sailed on the Holiday in November of 1985. It was my first cruise and we sailed right into a hurricane (Kate). Our itinerary was modified by skipping St. Maarten and we cut through between Cuba and the Dominican Republic to get away from the hurricane on our way to San Juan. At the time it was the first time that the ship had been to San Juan and many other cruise ships pulled as well. After San Juan we continued on to the rest of the cruise as scheduled. St Thomas and then Nassau. Had a great time and have been om many Carnival cruises since.
I am sure you experienced some rough waters on that one. I sailed from Alaska to Beijing China via the Bering Sea during a storm. 100 mph winds and at one point, I thought the ship was going to break in half. I started drinking really early on that sea day!!! ha ha Thanks for the comment!
Thanks so much for posting this video and your other cruise videos. I worked for Carnival Cruise Line as a Purser between June 1990 and October 1991 on board the Celebration, the sister ship to the Holiday, where I met my husband. My husband worked as a Dancer on board both the Celebration and Holiday between 1989 and 1991. Every Saturday, the 2 sister ships were docked side by side at the Port of Miami where we also saw the other ships that you mention in your video (Norway, Sovereign of the Seas and the Caribe I). As Pursers, we were responsible for embarkation and debarkation of passengers so the part where you show the passengers waiting to board brought back a lot of memories, as well as the footage of the passengers waiting to do boat drill. How we all dreaded that every week. LOL When we were first married, we lived in Miami Beach and the view from our apartment window was the ships docked at the Port of Miami along the MacArthur Causeway. This coming November we will celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary. As I mentioned to you in a private message, I have shared your Carnival cruise videos with many other former crew members and many mentioned that watching your videos of their former homes brought tears to their eyes. I would love to see more cruise footage if you are able to share more in the footage. Thanks again!
Wow just wow it is so cool to see the sovereign back in port of the 80s it must have been awesome now she lies broken up in a scrap yard :( but amazing video I’m 13 and I love crusing and I think this a great video of the history of crusing back then when cruise technology was rapidly evolving🛳🛳⚓️⚓️
So long ago I don't recall....but if it was stairs leading to a bar, I am sure I found it. Funny, I was on the Viking Octantis in Antarctica (378 passenger exploration ship) and heard people were meeting in The Hide bar at the front of the ship for evening drinks and storytelling. Turns out, the location is called the Hide because it is hidden. Took us about 1/2 hour to find it because doors are intentionally mislabeled (i.e., Crew Only, Galley, etc.) as part of the experience. Fun time when we finally found it! ha ha
It is so cool to seethe glory days of a Carnival ship that is no longer in service. It is amazing how much these ships change! You also gave us a good story to keep us from ever parasailing. Theme nights in the MDR sound really fun. Thanks for sharing this!
Wow..I was First Purser on the Holiday in 1988. Spent quite a while on board. What a great video. Brings back a lot of fine memories. In fact, I worked on all 7 of the original CCL ships as a Purser and Hotel Manager on the Jubilee. Thanks.
I can imagine at 14 years old you could not help but have a great time. So much to do on the ship. Thanks for watching and commenting....hope you are still cruising also!
Thank you for posting this. I was on the Holiday in 1987 as a tween. You're right. The dining was more eventful. Remember that special fancy buffet they would create where they had the guests take photos before they'd let anyone eat?
Yep, the Midnight Buffett was a big thing back then. I could not believe that people could still be hungry and dig in for more! Fun times and thanks for watching.
We never got to sail on the HOLIDAY, but we did visit it when she first came out. I remember the trolley on board. We sailed on all of the ships in your video, only in 1996, the CARIBE I was called the REGAL EMPRESS at the time. We sailed the NORWAY three times and enjoyed her immensely. Thank you for a wonderful video.
Don't know if you saw it, but I have a video of the Norway on my channel also. It should bring back some memories if you have not seen it! Here is the link ua-cam.com/video/ueFMDejz8Oo/v-deo.html Thanks for watching.
Pat ... thank you so much for sharing this video. I am from London and worked on the Holiday for 8 months in 1992 as a Casino Dealer ... and your video just brought back so many memories. Very nice also to hear you say such positive things about your experience.
My gf (now wife) and I sailed on her back in the late 80's. Our 2nd cruise together. I also remembered the bus and thought it was pretty cool to see that there. What fond memories. Thank you for posting.
No one liked the muster drills including me. In later years I would get a couple beers, shut the cabin lights off, go out on my deck and pull the curtain closed during the drill. When the room steward came by he would think we were gone. Then they changed to the electronic muster check in and that changed everything. ha ha Glad you enjoyed the video.
Thanks for watching. I have some other vintage ones on my channel if your interested. Please subscribe and you will get notified of future videos. Appreciate the comment!
I went on this ship and route in Nov 1988. Thank you for this! I love your detail comparisons to "ships today". I have to say, the Holiday had the worst food I had on any ships I had been on. 😉 Thanks again.
OMG 😱 love the video as this is when I started to realize how much I wanted to go on a cruise 🚢. Although in 88 it’s when I started getting interested in cruising it was only in 2000 that my dream finally came true. Since then I’ve done 55 cruises 🚢
Once you start you cannot stop....a major addiction. I remember on my first cruise in 1983 we were seated with another couple at dinner. They told us they had been on 10 cruises! I could not believe it. I quit counting after I got to 50 cruises and still love going on them. Thanks for watching and commenting!!
Beautiful video! Really love that you have video footage of the legendary S.S. Norway (ex. S.S. France). She is my all time favourite ship in the world! Wish I could live on that time... Greetings from Norway!
Thanks so much. And I remember everyone making fun of me carrying that giant video camera around...until we got home and they all wanted to watch it!! ha ha Thanks for watching and commenting!
I so enjoyed this. My boyfriend and I did a cruise on the Holiday in 1988, became in engaged on the Celebration in 1989 (doing the Holiday route due to Hurricane Hugo) and honeymooning on the Jubilee in 1990. Went back on the Celebration in 1995 doing its regular route.
My gosh. what a rush of memories. met my present wife on the Holiday in 1988. followed up the next year with a cruise on the Celebration. When we got married the next year, guess what we did for the honeymoon? We sailed on the Norway!!! So many memories watching your video. All three ships there back to back. Our first date was walking up Dunns River falls!!!!!! You nailed the first 3 years of our lives together in one beautiful video. To this day, 30 cruises later, were still partial to Carnival. Leave on Oct 8 on Carnival Horizon..........can you guess the itinerary?? Ocho Rios, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel!!!!!!!!!!!!! Were still happily married and still cruising. Celebrating our anniversary this year on a retro cruise of how we first met and the original itinary. Thanks so much for all the great memories you shared.
Wow what a great story and I really appreciate you sharing it with me. I had such great times with Carnival ships back then and being on the Norway, along with Royal Caribbean. Amazing memories and doing Dunn's River Falls was a big favorite....love that beach. Wish you many more years of a happy marriage and hope you enjoy your upcoming cruise. By the way, Grand Cayman and Cozumel are our two favorite islands and we have stayed on both for many weeks scuba diving....just beautiful!
Nice video from the good old days. This ship is build on Aalborg shipyard(Denmark), finished in 1985. Before the ship went on its maiden voyage, the shipyard invitede everyone to come and see it. I went there with my parents, I was 10 years old. Sadly we didn't take any photos, but I recall it was a majestic and beautyfull ship. The wing shaped chimney/funnel was really special. Sad to see that its on a beach now, being cut into pieces.
Yep, so hard to believe it is gone. I am thankful I got some video of it and other old ones. Don't know if you subscribed to my channel, but I have other vintage videos of cruise ships and some new ones if your interested. Thanks!!
Our first cruise was on this ship in 2006 from New Orleans. There were two things after this five day cruise I still bring up during cruising conversations. First, I never felt like I was on the water. The gulf waters were like glass, smooth. I was actually disappointed that I couldn't tell I was on the high seas! The other is that 5 days is too short! We immediately booked our next cruise a seven day on the NCL Grandeur of the Seas. Being December, the gulf waters were way different. Twelve foot swells definitely made this cruise memorable. We have cruise mainly Carnival and will have 21 cruises once we get on the Mardi Gras hopefully in Dec 2021. Thanks for the video.
My first cruise was a seven day and I fell in love with cruising. Later I took a four day one and said, never again, only seven or more. Finally I took a 12 day cruise and swore I would never go back to seven. Then a 14 day cruise - more spoiled. Then a 22 day cruise and I still did not want to get off the ship.....addicted like drugs! ha ha On my cruise from Alaska to China we had to cross the Bering Sea. The night before the Captain came on and said we would be hitting a storm at 8:00 am. When 8:00 am rolled around, I thought the ship was going to break in half. 100+ MPH winds and waves coming over the 11th floor. That was a ride I will never forget....and we loved it! Thanks for watching.
I love that you have this. There are so many tours of ships these days, but it’s soooooo rare to see a good video that shows us glimpses of the old ships. Thank you.
Hey thanks for sharing your video... I totally forgot video cameras used to be that big when I seen you in the mirror I thought you were the Borg...lol
On my first 1983 cruise on the Song of America, I had the same size camera and the VCR with a shoulder harness and battery pack around my waist. How things have changed.... Thanks for watching.
I sailed on Holiday in 2008 just months before she was transferred to IberoCruceros. She looked pretty much exactly the same in 2008 as it does in this video from 1988. It was such an awesome throwback! Holiday was immaculately maintained and the crew LOVED her. RIP Holiday!
It is interesting, I had former crew members write me and tell me how much they loved working on this ship. I really enjoyed my time on her. Thanks for watching!
Sailed on the Holiday in 1992 for my honeymoon. Had no pics or video footage so really appreciate this walk down memory lane. Thank you! Ocho Rios was our favorite!
Thanks. It is fun looking back at the old ones. I am working on a video of the NCL Norway sailing from 1986 with some good interior shots. If you subscribe you will be notified when it comes out. Thanks again for the comment.
Went on this ship for our Honeymoon. Same itinerary, except in reverse. We did climb Dunns River falls. Such a wonderful choice for our first cruise. Have not had a better cruise yet. Have enjoyed all eight of our other cruises just they were not the same. Do love cruising. Enjoyed your video very much. Brought back wonderful memories. Thank you
Thanks so much for watching and hope you subscribed. Once cruising gets going again I will be putting out some more cruise videos. I started cruising in 1983 and have been hooked ever since.
9:42 am California I sailed in approximately 1987 🎉my first cruise and it was memorable. Thank you for taking me on that cruise again. It brought back a lot of memories. It was the first of 10 cruises I went on with my sister.
The first cruise is always the most memorable and I have never forgotten mine on Royal Caribbean's Song of America in 1983. What is so amazing is that ship is till sailing for an Italian company! So much fun. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Thank you for sharing this. I have found that the older Carnival ships (such as the Fantasy class nowadays) have a charm to them that the newer ships don't have. Looking at photos, older ships had all the bright colors, gold, and over the top feel that the more modern designs lack.
Thanks for watching and I could not agree more with you. I have some other vintage ones on my channel if your interested. Please subscribe and you will get notified of future videos. Appreciate the comment!
@@patsadventures6381 I appreciate the reply! I did go ahead and watch your vintage Royal and NCL ships! I'm not naval expert, but the sheer (if I'm not mistaken; the curve from front to back) of these ships gives it a more elegant look.
I enjoyed that cruise so much. I took my second cruise in 2009. I feel like the cruise on the Fantasy was better because more free items were included.
I worked on that ship from February 1990 to May 1991 and then again from November 1991 to February 1992. I played saxophones in the Americana Orchestra. It was a really great time to work on ships and I have great memories from that experience. Unfortunately, I never went back working on ships which I thought of doing many times but it never panned out. Recently it was revealed that the ship will be sold for scraps. Sad...
We had such a great time on that ship back in the day. Would save up all year to be able to afford it and was so depressed when it was over! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Pat - This is awesome!!! Just stumbled on it. I went on the Holiday and Celebration back in the 80's. Remember cruising as a college kid with my parents. Seriously this is one of the best things I have seen on youtube, thanks brother.
Really glad you like them. I have two more vintage videos on my channel- one of the SS Norway and the other is the Carnival Tropical, both back in the 80's. At the time, the SS Norway was the largest cruise ship in the world and would not compare to the ships of today. Take a look at them and let me know what you think! Thanks for watching!!
@@patsadventures6381 already watched them! They're great too. Very interesting to see SS Norway. Cabins weren't great but I love the public spaces and the classic ocean liner look. Have you ever visited the Queen Mary in Long Beach? Very cool
Your video camera was state of the art in 88' and must have cost you several thousand Dollars. The camera is worth significantly more than the cruise, but even that was more than today. I think these are the perfect size ships, from this era. Outstanding food, service, passengers, crew, etc. The key word is class, as in "keeping it classy," my boyhood in the 80's was about that. Bigger is not better and often I look back at what we lost since the late 90's. Anyway, you did a great job, making videos were hard back then. It was a huge change from movie reel cameras, ten years prior.
On my first cruise a few years earlier (RCCL Song of America) I had the giant camera, the Panasonic split VCR that I carried on a shoulder strap, and a battery pack around my waist. Had I fallen into the water I would have went straight to the bottom. By this cruise they had condensed it down to just the giant camera and you are right, it was state of the art back then. Lots of good memories.
Cruising was so much better back then. All the lines including Carnival were the definition of class. Today, Carnival is the Greyhound Bus of the seas.
I refer to Carnival as the Motel 6 of cruising....but Greyhound of the Seas is also spot on. Back in the day it was quite fun I have to say. Thanks for watching.
Yes, just horrible to see those beautiful ships being taken apart. I have watch some of the videos of the inside of them in the scrap yard thinking - Yep, I was in that pool, I was in the casino, etc. Sad. Thanks for the comment!!
WOW thanks so much for posting this!!! This was so cool to see! I am an avid cruiser and an endless source of useless cruise ship information 🤣 it’s crazy to think that the ships nowadays that are around 100,000 tonnage feel small. As far as formal dining goes, my husband and I have always made sure to dress up very nicely. We’re cruising again in a few days and I don’t think we’re going to go all out, just because we’ve put so much money into this cruise already and it’s not 100% necessary to spend more. But it is nice to feel fancy lol
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching. I am the same way with respect to cruise ship information. If you are interested, I have a number of cruise ship videos on my channel (along with other things) that you might want to check out!
Thanks for posting this. I sailed on her (renamed as Magellan) 4 times. Voyages to Norway, Iceland and the Baltic between 2015 and 2019, from my home Port of Dundee, Scotland. Despite new owners and refits, there's hardly any difference to the shots in your recording. So sad that she's now been scrapped.
I agree....you would think there would still be a market for the older ships but it probably costs way to much to maintain I guess. Thanks for watching!
Sailed on her on 11/13/2008 from Mobile Alabama but can't remember the ports of call we went to. It was only a 4 day cruise and I know it was Mexico but can't remember where. I loved this ship and we had the best casino staff on this cruise of all the cruises we've been on so far. It truly was a "FUN SHIP".
Back then they were going to Cozumel Mexico and those short cruises (booze cruise or Party Cruise) are a blast if your looking for a quick get away. Thanks!
💥”Hey Pat I was actually in that video, I was a Four Winds’s D.R Waiter(I was @ Crew Talent Show Singer & Dancing 🎶Ole-Ole🎶)’during Caribbean Night”!-“what a reminiscence”!💥
Great nostalgic video!!! My wife and I really enjoy cruising! Our very first cruise was on the Holiday back in August 1988! Same itinerary except in reverse! Great memories!😊👍
Hey Pat! Thank you so much for sharing this. I went on my first cruise this week which was Carnival Elation. It was so incredible getting to see this. Have a great one!
Samuel - thanks for watching and commenting. Cruises are a great time and I have been doing them for a long time now. I have other cruise videos on my channel if your interested in checking them out - some vintage and others current. One of the other vintage is the Carnival Tropicale when it was brand new 35 years ago.
Pretty awesome. I have only been on one Maiden Voyage and that was the Viking Octantis to Antarctica and that was a blast. I remember going on the Holiday and it was state of the art back then....loved it. Thanks for watching and commenting.
cool. Never sailed on her. Our first cruise was 2002 on a Fantasy class ship. Dinners were nicer back then. Oddly, I can't remember the breakfasts at all. I'm sure it had the regular breakfast at the lido like today. Do you think cruising was more expensive back in 1988 (relative to average annual income)? Obviously the ships were much smaller, but cruising was also just not as 'well known' and maybe was just gradually getting more popular. Airline tix were actually very pricey back then, so I'd guess that cruising was more expensive than today (relative to typical income).
Interesting question and you are right. My first cruise in 1983 was on the RCCL Song of America. I had a window cabin and for 7 days the cost was 1,050 (which included airfare from California to Miami). In todays dollars that would be $3,128...so yes, it was much more expensive back then. To keep the costs down they have cut way back on things (Midnight Buffet, well know headline entertainment, etc). But it is still fun! I do like the small ships better but they can make more profit with the larger ones. Thanks for watching.
The Holiday was built in 1985 and operated for Carnival from 1985 to 2009. It was then sold and operated by Ibero Cruises as the Grand Holiday from 2010 to 2014, and finally by Cruise & Maritime Voyages as the Magellan from 2015 to 2020. When Cruise & Maritime Voyages ceased operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ship was sold at auction and scrapped in Alang, India in January 2021. It was a beautiful ship and we sure had a great time on it. Thanks for watching!!
We sailed around the middle of August but I cannot remember that exact date. Loved that itinerary also and still do! Glad you liked the video and thanks for watching.
Yea, that parachute accident was really something. Back then, Joe was in good shape and jumped from the chair just before it hit the water. If he had not unbelted and jumped, he would have drowned because the metal bench was pulled under water. The other part was he did not want to go up and we convinced him to try it.....we never heard the end of that. Yep, that cruise was quite fun. Thanks for watching.
I was on the Holiday in 1989. Great vacation except for one poor passenger. We were delayed leaving Jamaica. Some poor lady had a heart attack. Had to wait for an ambulance to take her from the ship. I wonder what ever happened to her?
When I went on the Alaska cruise, every port we stopped in there was an ambulance waiting to take someone off. Not a good feeling. When I was coming back to Los Angeles from South America something happened to one of the crew members. When we were about 300 miles south of San Diego, a Coast Guard plane arrived and started circling overhead then their chopper arrived. They airlifted the guy off of the pool deck. Yep, things always happening on those ships. Thanks for watching.
Agree 100%....no desire to go on the mega ship and all and do not see it happening. I spent 22 days on the the 930 passenger Viking Sky going up the Amazon and that ship was perfect. You felt like you were cruising.
@@ronlewis9374 I did that cruise many, many years about on Chandris Cruise Lines which became Celebrity Cruise lines and we were on a 1,200 passenger ship that was falling apart (air con in the stateroom did not work, Italian waiters literally fighting in the dining room, etc.) But I loved the route and overnight in Bermuda. With respect to the Amazon, I have never seen bugs the size of these....they would be all over the deck in the AM. I mean, scary looking stuff. We did some shore excursion hiking- lots of stuff that will bite and sting you. Wonderful trip!
Hello there , its more fun to go on one of these smaller older cruise ships . Why does all these cruise lines have to build a huge modern 155 K Ton ship and bigger . There is no fun on a Huge Ship. !!
I have no idea but I guess there is a demand to go on them. We have been going on the Viking Ocean ships that only hold 930 passengers or the smaller Princess ships. I have no desire to go on the mega ships and agree with you!
Pat's Adventures going to miss her (: hopefully you can do a tribute to her and monarch I hope majesty is spared , and I wish Norway could have been saved
I can tell it was vintage cause men had mustaches, that was a big deal in the eighties. We're you allowed to bring your own beer , liquor in a cooler??
Back then you could bring as much alcohol on as you wanted and nothing was said. Also when you bought liquor from the duty free you could take it right to your room, not like now where they deliver it to you on the last day. You are right about the mustaches back then. I got rid of mine when gray hairs started appearing! ha ha Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope you subscribed!
Cruise ships used to have a personality. Nowadays they're just bricks that have been duplicated 3 times or more. Sure, they're more fun, but they are not as special as the classic small cruise ships.
My dad was a physician on Caribe 1 , Norway and many of the old Carnival ships...great memories here :-)
I bet he had a lot of interesting stories about the people he treated. I bet he was an expert on telling people how to cure a hangover! ha ha Thanks for watching and commenting!
I sailed on her in 2004. Very first ship I cruised on. I don’t remember much, but I remember how great of a time we had!

I am obsessed with these vintage cruise videos!!
@@bissum4227 I am glad you like them and they are fun to look back on….especially if you sailed on one of those ships.
Fantastic video! Men with mustaches and short shorts - those were the days!
ha ha...It is funny to look back and believe that was the style during that era...good times! Thanks for watching and commenting.

What a cool job and i am sure you have some great stories from your time on the ships! Thanks for watching and the comments....much appreciated.
Incredible footage. Im glad these videos are seeing the light of day. Very different timr, but oddly familiar
Thanks. I have another old one I am trying to put together now so I will see how that goes.
Thanx for the memories. Did you find the secret stair between the casino and the bar downstairs?
I was on the holiday in 1994 with my mum, dad, my 2 brothers ... i was 14 years old ... GREAT TIME!!
It was a beautiful ship and we all enjoyed it so much. Thanks for the comment!
My gf (now wife) and I sailed on her back in the late 80's. Our 2nd cruise together. I also remembered the bus and thought it was pretty cool to see that there. What fond memories. Thank you for posting.
It was one of my favorite cruises back then. Especially loved the ports and what a great staff. Thanks for watching and commenting.
the good ole days of cruising except the muster drills lol. I went on the P&O line back in 1984 as a child....fun times!
I love the nostalgic promo videos with Kathy Lee, but this is way better!
ha ha....I agree!! Thanks for watching!
This was a fantastic video! Loved seeing the ships of that day.
Thanks for watching. I have some other vintage ones on my channel if your interested. Please subscribe and you will get notified of future videos. Appreciate the comment!
I also sailed on the Holiday in 1988. Great time! Cruising was so much better back then. I miss those times. Great video!
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it. Yep, great times cruising back then....things were so simple.
I went on this ship and route in Nov 1988. Thank you for this! I love your detail comparisons to "ships today". I have to say, the Holiday had the worst food I had on any ships I had been on. 😉 Thanks again.
Sometimes you just cannot forget the ones with bad food. I have been pretty lucky over the years. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Sounds like you have some great memories on your Carnival cruises!! Thanks for watching and commenting.
My gosh. what a rush of memories. met my present wife on the Holiday in 1988. followed up the next year with a cruise on the Celebration.
I actually brought my giant camcorder aboard a cruise on the Ecstasy. Makes me want to go back and view it.
they are fun to go back and watch. Glad you watched it and hope you enjoyed.
Awesome
Class of ships
Thanks for watching. Glad they are building some small ones again. I appreciate the comment!
I love that you have this. There are so many tours of ships these days, but it’s soooooo rare to see a good video that shows us glimpses of the old ships. Thank you.
Yep, I sure wish I had not lost some of the videos that I had of other older ships. It is fun looking back at these. Thanks for watching!
This was fun to watch thanks for sharing lots of memories
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the comment!!
Great video, thanks so much for sharing it 😀
Thanks for watching. I have some other vintage ones on my channel if your interested. Appreciate the comment!
Sailed on the Holiday in 1992 for my honeymoon. Had no pics or video footage so really appreciate this walk down memory lane. Thank you! Ocho Rios was our favorite!
Glad you liked it and it brings back your good memories! I loved that cruise also...sooo long ago!
Very cool video sir!
Glad you liked it....thanks!
This was a great video, what a time capsule. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching. It sure seems like it was yesterday!
Wow!! wonderful memories,I was a waiter in this marvelous ship at this time!! thank you for posting it."feeling Hot..Hot.Hot".
Thanks for the comment! Now being a waiter looks like one very hard job. Glad you liked the video!
nice tour of the cruise interior, great sharing 👍
Thanks. It is fun looking back at the old ones. I am working on a video of the NCL Norway sailing from 1986 with some good interior shots. If you subscribe you will be notified when it comes out. Thanks again for the comment.
Thx!
I serviced the chillers, cooling system as it was moved to the Caribbean in 2000. 28yo and on a cruise ship as a tech….. fun!
Oh my God...I can only imagine the stories you have about that time. We sure had a great time on that ship. Thanks for watching!
I used to hate if they did the drill while the ship was pulling out. I like to watch the sail away.
I could not agree more. Do the drill before we sail so you can get topside with your drink and enjoy the sail away! Thanks for the comment!
Awesome video. Thanks for posting. The 80's were the best. Wish I could go back.
It was a different time for sure....yea, it would be nice to be 30 years younger!! ha ha. Thanks for watching.
9:42 am
California
I sailed in approximately 1987 🎉my first cruise and it was memorable.
Great video! thanks for sharing.
Thanks and glad you enjoyed it.
Life so so much simpler and more fun
Yep, walk on with no security, bring as much booze as you wanted and get the party started. Plus I was much younger!!! ha ha Thanks for watching.
Hello, I sailed on the MS Fantasy in 1992. Thank you for the memories.
Yep, it is hard to believe all those ships are gone now. Glad you liked it and thanks for watching.
I enjoyed that cruise so much. I took my second cruise in 2009. I feel like the cruise on the Fantasy was better because more free items were included.
This video deserves more views.
Thanks and I agree! ha ha It is amazing that some of my other cruise videos have thousands of views....who knows.
I sailed on holiday in 2008 out of mobile to Cozumel I loved it
I think that is when they were doing the four or five night cruises....those are a blast also. Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed!!
Sad...
Thanks for the comment and glad you enjoyed. I would have loved to work on a ship for a bit but never had the opportunity.
We rode the Holiday through a tropical depression back in 2005. Absolutely a blast.
We had such a great time on that ship back in the day. Would save up all year to be able to afford it and was so depressed when it was over! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I was like wow
Glad you liked it and thanks for watching!
Great video. Very interesting how much has changed and how much hasn't. Thank you for taking the time to share this.
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed. You have a great channel with all of the trams. I subscribed! You have done some traveling I guess.
Pat - This is awesome!!! Just stumbled on it. I went on the Holiday and Celebration back in the 80's. Remember cruising as a college kid with my parents. Seriously this is one of the best things I have seen on youtube, thanks brother.
Thanks so much for the complement. I wish I could find more footage of my old cruises. Glad you enjoyed.
Another great video! Really interesting to see these snapshots from ships and times past.
Very cool
Awesome! Thanks for sharing this!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching.
Thanks for watching.
now she is on a beach to be broken up. glad to see the ship in better times and it really was a trendsetter to what we have now.
Sailed on it in Sept. 2009 out of Mobile Alabama. While aboard we found out it was being sold in November of that year.
I sure had a great time on that ship. Thanks for the comment!
That is so amazing! Thanks for sharing and I am glad you enjoyed it. What are the odds!! ha ha
Great video. Would you happen to know what became of the Holiday?
Great nostalgic video!!! My wife and I really enjoy cruising! Our very first cruise was on the Holiday back in August 1988! Same itinerary except in reverse! Great memories!😊👍
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching. Just waiting for cruising to start again!!
This was great we had our honeymoon on the Holiday.
I am sure that was a heck of a honeymoon on that beautiful ship! Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed!
Sailed on the Holiday a few times, including the Millennium sailing.
Sure had a good time on that ship and the others! Thanks for watching!
What a great video, it's so wonderful that you captured so much on video back then, looks like you all had a blast :)
My maiden ship..how i wish I could go back and work again in this ship...
I am sure you have some good stories from your time on her. I sure loved it....and still love the smaller ships. Thanks for watching!!
I went on the Maiden Voyage of the Holiday and then the Jubilee
We sailed in 1996 out of LA, 3 days to Ensenada.
Those quick weekend party cruises were quite fun when I lived in Los Angeles. I am sure you had fun on them also! Thanks for watching.
Great video. Would you happen to know what bacame of the Holiday?
The Holiday was built in 1985 and operated for Carnival from 1985 to 2009. It was then sold and operated by Ibero Cruises as the Grand Holiday from 2010 to 2014, and finally by Cruise & Maritime Voyages as the Magellan from 2015 to 2020. When Cruise & Maritime Voyages ceased operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ship was sold at auction and scrapped in Alang, India in January 2021. It was a beautiful ship and we sure had a great time on it. Thanks for watching!!
Thanks for the great video Pat! I sailed on the Holiday on June 20, 1988… same itinerary! What was your sail date on this video?
We sailed around the middle of August but I cannot remember that exact date. Loved that itinerary also and still do! Glad you liked the video and thanks for watching.
Thanks,I am into classic ships! So why am I booked on Mardi Gras July 31st? LOL
That is a big one now....should be fun!
well joe parachute accdent but i will love that for fun if holiday was still here again but i do go on carnival cruises this my 7th
Thanks for watching.
thanks for posting. I went on the Celebration. Great cruise! I'm not to fond of monstrous cruise ships with 5,000 passengers. Not my ideal vacation.
Agree 100%....no desire to go on the mega ship and all and do not see it happening. I spent 22 days on the the 930 passenger Viking Sky going up the Amazon and that ship was perfect. You felt like you were cruising.
@@patsadventures6381 We honeymooned NY to Bermuda with about 1400 passengers on the Meridian. Must have been awesome going up the Amazon!
Omg! Amazing! Do you have a patreon or something I would like to buy you a cup of coffee!
Nope, do not have it. Appreciate the complement and thanks for watching!!
This was my first cruise in 1992
That is a ship that I really enjoyed. I think by then it was my 5th or 6th cruise....so much fun! Thanks for watching!
Holiday/Magellan was scrapped in 2021😢
Yes, as were many others due to the Pandemic. What a shame. Thanks for watching and commenting!
I love how this is normal to them in the 80s in 2025 I would just say to get a phone and record
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the comments!
Sadly sovereign is gone now ):
Yea, hard to believe after sailing on it twice....oh well. Thanks!!
Pat's Adventures going to miss her (: hopefully you can do a tribute to her and monarch I hope majesty is spared , and I wish Norway could have been saved
Blows my mind that they don't make passengers put their life jackets on and assemble under their designated lifeboats anymore....
Agree....you will not have any idea where to go if something happens. Thanks for watching!
What’s built better fancy cruise or ugly cruise
Not sure what you mean.....
Cruise ships used to have a personality. Nowadays they're just bricks that have been duplicated 3 times or more. Sure, they're more fun, but they are not as special as the classic small cruise ships.
I could not agree more. We have been booking the smaller ocean ships on Viking and Princess. Only 930 people on the Viking.....
To bad all of the ships featured in your video are all now being, or have been, recycled. Even Holiday.
No kidding....this pandemic really changed the cruising industry. Thanks for watching.
