Great video! My first cruise was on Adventure of the Seas in 2005, and it was wonderful! But it sure has changed a lot in those twenty years. I still only do the older, smaller ships now as they are less mobbed, a lot less kids, and less expensive! I wouldn't step foot on those mega monstrosity ships!!!
Thanks for posting. We had this on VHS back in 1986 about six months before our first cruise, it was on the Song of Norway. We must have watched it a hundred times. (maybe more) 35 years later and 50+ cruises and over 450 days at sea, you never forget your first. Looking forward to cruising again, soon we hope.
I worked on the 3 babies, Song, Nordic & Viking from 1973-8 (pre-stretched) and I love this video (shakes and all). Although it was 6 years after me things hadn't changed that much. Same Captain, and the Potts Twins, Baron Bela playing fast and was that Tony Manne? I think the other critics below have missed the point of this wonderful video. It captures what it was like in the early cruising days (pre-Mega ships). I met my wife during this time and I am definitely going to play this for my kids. Thanks for taking the time to put it together and posting it. Much appreciated.
My parents were on the Nordic Prince in about 1990. I have an old video which includes performances by the entertainers ... including the Pott's Twins. As I recall one of them was singing "Bring Him Home" from Le Miserable. 😊
That is so cool. I drummed for the Potts Twins on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and also on Commodore. They loved Broadway. They were doing songs from Pippin in 1976 and 1977 on the Caribe and also Waterloo (ABBA) which was one of their favorites.@@ltkreg
@@210caulfield We're like two ships that crossed in the night 🤣What ever became of the twins? For some reason I became fascinated by the raising and lowering of one of the Nordic Princes small boats ... I used to watch that clip over, and over and over ...
The last I heard they were in the Bournemouth area in the South of England. 3 years ago. Did you ever come across Lisa the 'hostess with the mostest'?@@ltkreg
I was a trumpet player with the Barrie Ashcroft , Bill Barron and Andre Krupinski groups 1982, 83 and "84. Song of Norway twice, Song Of America 1983. This brings back nice memories.
My 1st cruise was when I was 15 Years old on the Nordic Prince to Bermuda. It opened a new world to me. So much has changed up to now, but its the only vacation I truly enjoy. Thanks for posting this video!
The lost days of cruising ..Pre cruising madness…I miss those days..Pre madness..People looked happy then..No online..no 100 ships in port ..No ships with 5,000 passengers..No Form filling..Proper food served in a proper dinning room ..Proper fun..Incomparable. No stress..No more Royal 🤴🏽
Aww and you'd bemoan and cry on one nos. 😂😂😂😂 Cruising is fine now. Internet is fine. You just wear rose tinted glasses and ignore the glaring issues from then.
As a crew member back in the 80's i worked on Sun Viking and Song of Norway
We sailed on the SONG OF NORWAY the year this video was made. What a fantastic, beautiful ship she was.

Crazy how much bigger Royal Caribbean ships have gotten.
Mainly because of how successful these ships in the video was

I remember Baron Bela and Tony. I backed Hal Frazier and Bonnie Graham as well.

Loved it. I was a musician on board during those years. Not on this particular one while the filmed but I worked all for during a 13 year period.

I miss the smaller cruise ships. You really felt like you were sailing. Now it feels like a floating hotel.
Try a Windstar cruise.
So sail a smaller line. Didn't feel like a hotel at all on my recent RCL cruise. To each their own.
Love his video. When people used to appreciate what cruising is all about.
Proud to be DJ for 10 years now. 2012 till now.
73-75 Song of Norway...Great time...
That was when cruising was at its best.
LOL nope.
I should have added that like Steve I was a drummer on the ships and so can attest to the authenticity of the feel of this video.
Who did you play with?
thanks for the post, great little promo video! sign me up!
wow, now mega ships!
I miss the midnight buffet
All is true. As crew i know trully higher service standards .
Wish i had the money
Was that a ship or a retirement home of the seas? There’s only old folks in that film
The cruising demographic back then was describes as newly-wed or almost dead, and you can see that in this video, LOL!!
Before civilization became a bunch of savages…
