- An experimental short film exploring our addiction to technology. Despite the huge positives of disconnecting, the anxiety of missing out always claws us back.
With all that being said, I shot this purely to push myself into new styles of cinematography, and get some wicked shots for my cinematographer showreel.

Voice over by the incredible Alan Watts.
I could listen to him for hours.

Was in a bit of a creative rut, so pushed myself to get experimental. Hope you enjoy!
This was really good
Also first
yes i agree
Mumbo I am going to recommend you to my auntie who works for an advert company I think you’re really good at making short films
Mumbo do you count yourself as a camera man or a video/picture editor or both?
that was pretty interesting, talk about getting chills
This perfectly captured that comfortable unsettling feel that many works just cant quite get right. Great stuff mumbo
Im sed
Yeah
what?
Exactly 1000th like!
Mumbo casually having a stroll outside his comfort zone, I guess. The visuals are great and Vicky also did very well
yeah this was weird but also pretty confusing and cool
Wow! That was incredible. I watched it. Then I closed my eyes and listened to it. Thanks @Mumbo
Me too! Then I watched it again. Great work Mumbo and Vicki
Same
Hi I agree it’s great
hey mick
You can't @ people on UA-cam?
“The house was full of dead bodies, it seemed. It felt like a mechanical cemetery. So silent. None of the humming hidden energy of machines waiting to function at the tap of a button.” - The Veldt, by Ray Bradbury
Yooo i read that in 8th grade, such a crazy book for that time that predicited our current place so well
Copper golem go brrr
wow, I really liked this!! The cuts, the camera angles, and the cyclical structure; very cool, well done!
Man this was incredible
The cinematography is stunning and the message is clear and poignant
Amazing job, Mumbo
There was a message? The only thing I got from that is she needs the upgraded strap for her Oculus Quest 2. (The stock strap is really uncomfortable)
you aren’t funny
@@ENDER_Music good one 😦
Could say you’re chuffed to bits?
This piece feels like something future generations might watch in a philosophy museum of the 21st century. It has enough potency to be re-watched but is straightforward enough to deliver a message the first time through. Thank you for this work of art!
Mumbo: gets a Quest 2.
Proceeds to make a cinematic about it.

If you like to play ping pong, I recommend getting yourself the game "Eleven"
I play it every day!
The full name is eleven table tennis
@@agmass hahaha I thought about that after I posted it! I just bought the game and am overly excited about it lol
@@agmass right??
Man, I remember watching your vids here when you’d just got your first drone… how much you have developed since then is astounding!
Here within a minute gang
So?
Lol
six. sorry.
Here within the seven minute gang
This is absolutely beautiful. I still find it incredible how much emotion can be conveyed from films like this, and the execution was perfect. Amazing job

This is really moving, beautifully made! Love your work so much Mumbo, good luck on your cycle goal for October! 🧡
I’m so in love with Alan Watts, he’s on another level. He inspires me so much it’s crazy, he’s changed how see everything
I don't necessarily agree with this: "Despite the huge positives of disconnecting, the anxiety of missing out always claws us back."
I have developed an addiction to watching youtube or playing games (or - being connected) in the past 2 years and when I managed to disconnect this summer - I went to a summer camp as a helper - I didn't feel anxiety of missing out. I only felt something comparable to withdrawal symptoms. But when you have things to do, pushing those symptoms in the background is easier. When I'm skipping videos from people I'm subscribed to, I don't feel like I'm missing out. I feel the same about movies that have already come out but I haven't seen them yet. I don't fear being in a conversation with a group of people who have already seen the movie, though that might be a result of my introversion, and not knowing what they are talking about. I might go and watch the film afterwards if it sparks interest in me, but not because I'd be feeling like I'm missing out on the conversation about the movie and bringing myself up to speed with others for possible future conversations would be desirable.
You don't feel anxiety or missing out because of one thing: You've already reconnected - not necessarily with the Internet but with the real world, with the life you're having, with the beat of the universe and with yourself. Disconnecting is just a brief moment that we all need to redefine ourselves, rediscover what truly sparks the light within you. So keep up your attitude and help others to discover themselves like you did! Cheers!
@@bears8265 [in Disneys Hades voice] - "If only, if only.." Maybe I'm just pessimistic, but I think the situation I'm in is a precise opposite of what you described.. I keep hanging onto the last thread that keeps me from killing myself. I don't know who I am, nor do I know where I'm going. I'm just fluttering in the wind hoping not to get blown off. I can help people with a lot of things, mostly practical "handy work". But I can't help myself. [Palpatine] - "Ironic.."
@@inventiveowl395 I was in a similar 'pickle' a couple years ago. The thing that showed me the picture of it all in a completely different light was my interest in psychology, more precisely in the IFS (Internal Family System) therapy ~ it helped to reconnect with parts of my personality that got somehow lost in everyday life... you can do it on your own and your mind will show you what you need to know about itself.
It's worth it, I mean it.

@@inventiveowl395 i hope you are alright, but i think you need to make sure that you understand that everyone is different, and we all percieve things in different ways. the way you would feel about "disconnecting" is subjective, and really depends based on the person.
@@bepis4094 The VR headset could be described as a metaphor, but in the context of the description (which I was reacting to) I would argue that it's more fitting to call it an example. "An experimental short film exploring our addiction to technology."
I tried to explain myself better down there ↓
I don’t know what to say, I’m just overwhelmed with feelings and thoughts now. This is just indescribable with words, great work Mumbo.
Mumbo, what I love most about your videos is that they all have a message to learn. It’s very inspirational, and the quality is very good. Great job mumbo!
I love Alan Watts. Got me through my early 20s
I love how good mumbo is at things that are apparently outside of his comfort zone
Mumbo: I have two brain cells
Also mumbo: Beautiful, hard hitting and thought provoking mini movie
Love everything you make, you put such effort into everything! ♥️
All it needed at the end there is shutting the door with a loud bang to illustrate how truly captured we are by technology
I like the direction your films are going. I love watching serious shorts with heavy emotions. It's nice and refreshing. It reminds us there's more to the world for us to explore. Keep it up!
Oh wow, my man Mumbo is familiar with Alan Watts. Not only we're the visuals fitting, but using one of Alan's lectures really sells the message your trying to covey.
This is giving me 1984 vibes
I fell like no one can fully appropriate that feeling, but you just did! I love these shorts.
"A person who thinks all the time, has nothing to think about except thoughts."
- *_Alan Watts_*
I never regretted subscribing to both of your channels, *Mumbo always deliver!!!*
This is movie grade cinematography Mumbo, I'm a little speechless. That shot of Vickie levitating in the room was masterful! I have no idea how you did that but I'm amazed. I've watched this three times in a row and loved every moment, I actually got a bit emotional but I'm not entirely sure what about this video caused that to happen. I just know that it did. All in all, an aboslute masterpiece of a short film Mumbo, I loved it! I'm absolutely chuffed to bits.
I cant even explain the emotion I felt when watching this. Mumbo, you magnificent being, this is art.
The world needs to see this video. The tone, the music choice, the acting, the cinematography, everything. It’s absolutely stunning.
Amazing work, just as always.
A person who thinks all the time, has nothing to think about except thoughts
wow...
im trying to think of words to discribe how this made me feel but i cant. its scary yet calming nostalgic for something bad
its entertaining yet educational and mysterious and completely understood
i swear to god the amount of times i try to scroll up and then realize that its just the video
Directed by, mumbo jumbo!!!! Yay
Amazing. absolutely great camerawork, although I can't say much about that, since I'm still learning. The words hit me straight into the core. Great work Mumbo!
I love listening to Alan Watts. His talks were truly incredible
Allen Watts is the goat of thinking as we know it, and mumbo portrais that perfectly
Allan watts realy is a great speaker
And i think you realy gloryfied his speach...
I would recomend doing more videos on his speeches.
Absolutely amazing work of art
Alan Watts in the background made this so much better. Love this mumbo!!!!!!!!

Mumbo and Alan Watts- a wild collision of my childhood and college heroes
Found this channel yesterday and me and my M8 are obsessed, such beautiful cinematography and thank you for all the breakdown videos a gear chat love it.
Those weather effects, a sunny sky in britain? INCREDIBLE
Mumbo I love this. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful piece.
Thank you mumbo your videos really inspire me to keep going in my life. Thank you from all of us.
Wow, being a person interested in such things, I would definitely say that this had a surreal effect. I love it
Wait, your human? I would not know what that feels like.
I love Alan Watts' work, and this is a beautiful video to go with it. Absolutely love it
My jaw dropped a little when I saw your name, Mumbo. It's been a few weeks since I had seen your update about this video. I'd watched it on my playlist. Even while it looked like a PSA, it looked like a legit really good PSA that even got me to look below the video to your name. It takea a lot to perk my interest in the mode of being disinterested in UA-cam, so congrats! I hope this comes across as an encouragement that your video editing and film writing are very good. Keep going! Keep making me do a jaw drop!
Finding out Mumbo is an Alan Watts fan made my day. May the great being bless you Mumbo
Full tense of exploring an unknown future! Thank you for using our product and sharing your video!
Is this Alan Watts? Love that guy.
Alan Watts is the very definition of "a real one".
Loved this!
The man that can make this incredible video can also make a sustainable end crystal farm. Wow.
When you watch a Mumbo vlog for the first time and you realise he doesn't have a moustache...
Well done mumbo..nice job...something to think about
Amazing stuff man!! Seeing your growth here on UA-cam in the past like 8 years has been incredible. Can't wait to see what's next!
Very deep. Very true. A wonderful way to bring forth a reminder
Mumbo: uploads a really good quality video
Me who’s watching in 480p: Now that’s art
this has the feels of Denis Villeneuve and Tarkovsky....amazing.
I haven't tuned into your cinema channel for a while, this was outstanding! Love the work Mr Mumbo!!
You’re really getting comfortable outside your comfortzone. Thats powerfull
Thank you Mumbo for reminding us to take a rest from games because we can always reconnect later.
Wow... I've watched this 4 times now, and every time I notice something new, see something in a new light, or have new thought. Few videos really make me stop and think like this video did. Absolutely stunning work!
Loved this Ollie. I could feel the emotion the protagonist was feeling
beautiful use of Alan Watts 🙏 goosebumps
This went all kinds of over my head. Thanks Mumbo.
Absolutely AMAZING! I don't know how you did it, but you captured so many emotions yet it felt emotionless, I don't know how to else describe it... The lighting and scenes and everything pact together, absolutely fantastic!
why was this so calming yet so unsettling at the same time
My God..
Very deep.. Amazing work. 💯
Alan watts and mumbo. Never thought I'd see that!
Oh, my goodness. That was incredible.
Wow, incredible. This really is beautiful!
Watching this felt like a weird fever dream of a dystopian future where everyone connects and lives through VR. It was awesome
Absolute wonderful! Bravo!
Wow, soo amazing!!!! I love it!!! Good job!!!
I love this, for some reason I got chills down my spin watching this.
Great short film! Amazing as always Mumbo
Beautiful. Visually stunning. i really felt that.
Wow, I’m speechless.
Wonderful job Mumbo!
This is absolutely beautiful, thank you.
What a great video Mumbo.
Good work with the lighting and ambiance.
Absolutely stunning work, so much conveyed through so little
This is I think some of the best cinematography and shot composition I've seen from you, especially with that color grading. It looks genuinely really nice, with a unique and solid aesthetic.
Everything about this was perfect. Very moving
just amazing! nothing else...
I just kept thinking, "Wow...this element in the shot is perfect." The plastic and the stark lighting compared to the very real emotions expressed really nailed the feeling of addiction to technology. Excellent choice of audio, too - Alan Watts is one of my favorites.
I may have cried a little, but I am not sure why, that's what is great about your work Mumbo.
2 minutes and now I'm sat thinking about my digital usage
That was quite dark and powerful
truly amazing! Capturing emotions in 2 minutes... wow
reminds me of Allegory of The Cave
especially getting out of our shadows and false reality and our own head
Great film!
Beautifully made mumbo
It really brings up different emotions to me absolutely great
Absolutely amazing, love it
wow... this is just so deep and amazing
Well that was awesome. Just wonderful.
This feels like a movie trailer to a really good sci-fi movie
Very, very touching... Love it.
This was amazing. The camera work, the music, and the lighting all made this message very clear. You surprise me every day with your accomplishments
What an amazing piece of art Mumbo.
