I don't view people as great collectors because we all operate at a different pace, budget and intention. I would venture to say 99.9% of people that collect "things" have accumulated collections that wouldn't sell for $1,000 but they're still cool and give us a glimpse into who the person is. As for this hobby, a lot of people view their collection as inventory or "investments." To each their own.
I’m probably a little bit of both people described. I tend to check in on my collections every now and then, and every couple years there’s a point when the lake has fully filled up with great buys because things haven’t been selling for a bit where I decide to pounce. In these stretches I can easily account for 50% of the sales in a particular niche for two or three months and will keep at it until I’ve heated up the market in that niche too much and prices start getting a little wild. Then I disappear for a while until the niche cools down and fills back up with gems. I rarely sell stuff in my main collection, usually only the doubles that have been replaced by a better copy, but sometimes I change my mind on a direction and will move some stuff. I’ve sold 10 cards over the past 2 years.
I thought i typed this comment as you just summed up my collection. Lol. 1980-present, mostly PSA 9 rookies of Baseball, Basketball, Football and Hockey.
Destination. I love chasing cards and sets. Especially cheap and extremely rare sets. The main one I'm on now, I've been chasing for 3 years. When one I don't have pops up on ebay I'm estatic! We're talking 5-200$ cards. Nothing fancy. 154 of 200 down!
Unfortunately cards got so expensive everyone needs to sells cards to be in the hobby. I buy 2 or 3 cards a year over $100. Which watching UA-cam seems like I have a pretty weak collector. So to me everyone on the internet appears to be trying to buy cards so they can say they have the “greatest collection” as quick as possible. It really depends on your budget and how you believe you are collecting. And it’s really hard to know how someone is collecting just by the money they spend.
Gotta find what YOU like and enjoy and work from there. I couldn't care less about any of the shiny stuff like downtowns, kabooms and whatever other unnumbered garbage the hype bois are slamming slabs on tables for. Gimmie that HOFer, on card auto, game used early 2000's stuff from Topps and UD all day.
Gotta get the poop brown variation!!!! I am stuck in 1998 as far as cards go. As a fellow Manning collector,Mr jOSH is not a collector,he is a investor. I would consider my Manning collection as very respectable. Do i have shield cards or pmgs like Drake? Nope....i am a cheapskate, try to get everything as cheap as possible. I have many pop 1s and extremely hard to find cards. We all try to flex lol. Drake flashes his 24kt fleer Manning and i flex my pop 3 collectors edge preview bgs 10. A collector to me,is someone who knows what the card instantly without having to scan or look it up.
I like Peyton Manning better than Tom Brady. I can buy 1,000 different Manning cards right now for under $450, probably a fraction of I would have paid when he played. How many collectors can say they can fill a whole binder with unique Manning cards that span the entirety of his career? I'm not the biggest Josh Boober fan but I can't knock him in this scenario. You have a great collection by the way.
I got into Griffey (deep) in Dec 2020 and given that I had "more" disposable income than back in the 90s...it was easier for me to get some of the bigger cards faster. It wasnt that I was willing to put the "work in and wait" but I also felt I had alot of catching up to do to build my PC and the cards I wanted (big ones) just so happened to pop up the first 1-2 yrs I was deep into Griffey and the 90s
@@jamesnguyen7069 unlicensed cards are worth a turd. Card collecting is special because of licensed cards. For example, real CD's are cooler than fake copies

I’m a journey person. I collect rookie cards in baseball, basketball, and football. Mostly PSA 8 and PSA 9 from the 1980s-Present.

One thing great about DPG and the Big game hunter is that they are both grizzled young veterans, soon to be recognized as the whales number 1.
the peak in the junk wax era was 1989....took 5 years later to see the downfall... now is the peak... gunna take 3-5years to see the downfall.
It wasn’t ‘21? In which case it’s coming pretty quick now!
@@mcap8396yes, peak was '21.
i like flawless unlicensed baseball, its levels above leaf or any other unlicensed product. Its better then most licensed product too.
I am the #1 Derek Stingley Jr collector.

My favorite podcast
Great show today.
If u own it it’s yours period that’s money lol don’t matter how you obtain it but good conversation
95% of the people in the hobby are only in it for the money…….
Whats the 5% in it for?
This just isn't true. Most have been around for 20 + years and it aint for the money
@@bennyandthejets4290 That’s not true…..go to a card show…..you’ll see……
Umm why does he need a 5 figure Mahomes card and why do you even ponder that? Get him a 2022 Score base mahomes for $1...geez ffs
I wasn’t implying that. Just saying that he likes patches and autos and they are all so expensive.
@@BigDMcG73 ah nvm i missed that part
or just buy a 1900-3000$ laser printer and print out custom cards that are unique and 1/1.... no one will have them. lol
