Japan has the scariest roller coasters! Asakusa looks so quiet.

The lighting and comfortable Shitamachi vibe really do make Asakusa lovely and romantic in the evening. Thank you, Shinichi and Satoshi, for the relaxing and peaceful stroll. It looks like you have several new restaurants to sample next time you visit Asakusa!

One of my most memorable experiences in all my travels is going to the Kamiya Bar in Asakusa. It was recommended to me by a shop owner that spoke decent English. Supposedly the oldest bar in Tokyo.

When I was in Japan last December my friends and I were wandering around Asakusa looking for a place to eat and wound up finding that "South Park" restaurant and eating there. It was very tasty.

OMG! Shinichi, you are killing me!! I was laughing so hard at that 'morbid music in the background' comment of yours. I've watched this video 4 times now just to hear you say 'morbid music'! Elvira has invaded Japan.... No seriously- you need to make a Tabi Eats Morbid Music Tshirt for Halloween......

I’m planning a trip to Osaka, Japan, in November 2023. COVID forestalled my travel plans so I’m long overdue for a trip to Japan. Both my nephews lived and taught private English lessons to local Japanese students in Osaka. They are English and Finnish from their mother and Japanese from our side of the family. Their 2-year teaching experience in Osaka was an enriching and learning experience of Japanese culture, language and cuisine. We are fortunate to live in a city that has many restaurants featuring Asian cuisine.

I just spent two months in Japan, five weeks in Osaka and three weeks in Yonago. Had a great time in both, and I have been to Japan many times and looking forward to many more trips there. Going to try to get a long term VISA and live in Osaka.

I stayed in Asakusa on my trip last fall, and I walked by that hat shop so often on my way to my hotel! The Donki in that neighbourhood saved me so many times when I needed something random that I forgot to pack😅

Love Asakusa, the first city I have been to in Japan. Been about 3x, the last time, we stayed at that Sakura Hostel. Yup, very affordable and most importantly, they offer a big room with 6 beds for us (5) travelers. The wall was indeed the back of the old amusement park.
The shotengai you went into was leading to the shops specializing on fake/simulated foods products and kitchen wares. Or is it the one from Don Quijote? I got confused now. Must visit the place again.
I remember those Izakayas along the street. Lively at night.
Also the Uniqlo at Richmond Hotel, one side leading to Sensoji Temple, the other side going to a comedy theater and a big Don Quijote.
Miss Asakusa, would love to drop by once again. Maybe this coming January 2024

Asakusa is so much fun. Luckily my favorite tour organizer usually picks his hotel in Tokyo there. I'm going all on my own this September, but I'll still be following that tradition. Can't drink alcohol any more thanks to medication, so it's going to be Hoppy only (the Soto without the Naka) this time, I guess. I can hardly wait, I haven't been to Japan since the recent plague.

I haven't had hoppum but I know the drink. it was developed after WW II when there was a beer shortage.
This is fun to see, have never been to Asakusa in the evening, only during the day. When I went out it was usually in Ikebukuro, Takadanobaba or Shinjuku. Perhaps fun to go sometimes. One of my favourite shotengai in Asakusa is one that crosses Nakamisedori. You have a good view of skytree and there is a good family restaurant at the end of one side.

prefer the organ music to some high pitched japanese female bleating on, which is so common in japan to always have some tannoyed voice banging on at the poor unsuspecting public.

I am hesitant with my plan to visit Japan. Everyone seems so dedicated to custom and tradition that I fear that I will stand out as a western guy who doesnt speak Japanese. I think people wil just be annoyed with me because I dont know how to act in situations. I know that people can see that im not Japanese because of how I look obviously, so im hoping they will be understanding that im not fully aware of all the little unwritten rules, but still, it seems rather intimidating.
