NO SPEND Pantry Challenge 2023 Week #1

- Once again it's cold outside and I want to stay home! It's PANTRY CHALLENGE TIME AGAIN! My goal is to feed myself and my husband by just using food from our PANTRY and FREEZER for the entire month of JANUARY or maybe longer! I plan on spending NO MONEY for the month. Other goals in the challenge are to use up older (or less popular) canning and pantry food items that are at or near their best before dates or have just hung around for too long. It's my second NO SPEND PANTRY CHALLENGE and I hope that I learned some things last year so that I can better USE WHAT I HAVE, SHOP FROM MY PANTRY and stay out of the cold! Hopefully I'll end up with some MORE creative recipes this year!
In this first video I'll review what I loaded up into the Challenge Pantry and show you some recipes from the last couple of weeks (before and after Christmas vacation.) I haven't bought groceries since my last grocery haul in December!! We had a wonderful family Christmas away and now I'm ready to get right into staying warm by the fire and eating interesting meal ideas! I can't wait to have you join in and share your favourite recipes for me to try!

Welcome to my Pantry Challenge 2023! I'm ready for some great cooking challenges this year! Let me know in the comments what your fabulous recipe ideas are for corn flake crumbs, pineapple, oatmeal or any other items you spy in my challenge pantry!
Some people use corn flake crumbs as breading. I feel like you could use it as a binder in meatballs/meat loaf
I made oat milk for the first time this week, going to make an apple oatmeal cake, corn flakes can be used like gram crackers and make a pie crust or a crumble on top of a pie, that gave me an idea apple pie regular bottom crust and cornflake topping, make a home made shake and bake with cornflakes too. or a pineapple pie poured into a cornflake crust. I need to stop looking at food videos tonight LOL
So many great ideas barbaram! That pineapple pie sounds interesting! :) I find it toooo easy to watch someone else cook instead of getting started on meals!! :P
So excited for this series! This was my fave thing on UA-cam at this time last year.
Glad to have you here! :) I had such a great time doing the challenge last year!
You can make hot cocoa mix out of the powdered milk then you can use your marshmallows in it.
Ohh that sounds yummy! I’m sure enough cocoa would hide the taste of the powdered milk! 🍫 Great idea Nancy! So great to see you here and I hope you enjoyed the holidays 🧡
Powdered milk works great in baking!
Lentils are great for stretching ground beef. We cook up a batch and then freeze so we can just toss them in meatloaf, spaghetti sauce, chili, anything with ground meat.
Hi :) Thanks for the great tips! I do that with beans but haven't thought to try cooking and freezing with the lentils! Handy idea!
We like to put stuffing in meatballs and meatloaf! It makes the meat stretch farther and adds really good flavor and moisture.
Thanks for the idea Lauren! :D It sure does have a load of spices in it!
Just today I took a packet of apple/cinnamon oatmeal and pulverized it in my nutribullet and added it to my pancake mix with a little extra water. It blended in really well. They cooked up perfectly and gave just enough flavor to the pancakes.
What a great idea! Thanks for sharing :D
YAY! Happy new year friend. So happy to see you renew this series! Go YOU!!
Happy New Year to you too J M!! It's so great to have you back for a new challenge! :D
Good luck with inflation. Right now, I need to eat some stuff up. Food prices are ridiculous and definitely don’t want anything to go to waste! I think a pantry challenge or $21 a week challenge are both budget friendly things to do. Love them both!
Hi! I try hard to avoid waste usually but now it seems even more important with the food prices lately! I love both challenges as well but I'll enjoy staying home for at least a month until the weather improves before I start shopping for the great deals again :P It's great to have you watching
I like to use stovetop stuffing to top casseroles. It's pretty good that way. I usually just sprinkle it on dry and let the moisture from the casserole cook it up, toasty like.
Sounds great! It looks like I’ve got quite a few things to top casseroles at the moment 👍🏼😀 That sound like it would be really good!
What you need to do to the sub is broil it it open face and that will melt all the cheese and heat up the filling and keep the bread crispy on the edges but soft in the middle
First time here. I’m looking forward to the challenge. I want to go through the older freezer items and use everything in my pantry. It will spur on my creativity in the kitchen.
Welcome Maria! You might enjoy my Freezer Challenge as well! ua-cam.com/play/PL0mlSDF8Ck4IN-SoJVdy51UxTKKjwYEjr.html I had a ton of fun cooking up some creative meals while trying to use up a bunch of items in my freezer! I had so much fun in last year's Pantry Challenge! It's great to have you watching :D
Chicken fingers for the corn flake crumbs! Cut up a couple chicken breasts, cover in flour dredge in egg then the crumbs
Sounds simple and yummy! Great idea :D
Use the stovetop stuffing as filler in meatloaf. Sub out breadcrumbs. I like mix the egg and some water and a little oil (or ketchup bbq sauce whatever other stuff your adding that's liquid based) to help hydrate that stuffing before mixing with the meat.
Thanks for the tips! Sounds yummy!
For the stuffing I have seen people make a crust out of it and then put chicken pot pie filling in the middle. I haven't yet tried but thought it was a great idea and want to try it next time I make stuffing.
Hi tracy 🧡 Great to see you! That sounds like a neat idea! Thanks for sharing! 😀
The bread w/toasted sandwich, yup I’ve been there. Run fingers beneath water & flick droplets upon loaf before baking(rehydrates what moisture lost in freezing)
Hmm I’ll have to give that a try! I think I’ve tried just about everything 😂
@@JessicaWanders I learned originally w/loaf of New Orleans French Bread that’d gone too hard. Tip from a Baker :)
Those graham crackers make a nice pie crust if you crush them. Maybe chocolate pie?? You can make it with chocolate pudding and your instant milk. Also, bake with the instant milk instead of drinking it.
Chocolate pie! You have my attention 😀 Definitely need to focus on cooking with the powdered milk. The taste by itself is just so off putting to me.
Loved it so much last year, that I'm ready for another challenge. Even more so, since I learned how to can last year and now have a bunch of jars I want to open!
That’s so great that you’ve been canning! I really enjoyed doing the Canning Pantry Challenge last year ua-cam.com/play/PL0mlSDF8Ck4IgJ1AEovXhUSq5E00KphyI.html but I didn’t get as much canned up this year unfortunately 🙁 Lots of things to use up in the pantry challenge though! I’m excited 😀
Powdered milk can be used in homemade bread. =)
Thanks for the tip Adrienne 👍🏼
Powdered milk is great I use it in soups, dressings, gravys, desserts and more. Anytime that you would use milk in cooking.
I should try it in more things. I’m always so afraid it will make things taste like powdered milk and it isn’t my favourite 😕
The stuffing can be ground up and used as topping for a casserole, or as a sub for flour when frying chicken (corn flakes too).
The onion and cherry jam-on toast! The sweet and savory is 👌.
That’s a smart idea to grind up the stuffing mix! Thanks for sharing the idea 👍🏼🙂
The stuffing is good with ground turkey or chicken in a meatloaf.
Hi Jessica, I have really enjoyed watching all of your videos, I love how real you are. My family uses French bread for pizza nights, and we slice them in half and just top them opened faced and eat them that way. They get crispy, but not too bad since you are only having to cook them long enough for the toppings to melt/cook. It's our favorite way to do pizza night.
Thanks for sharing!! That's a great idea! It does take a long time to get the cheese to melt inside :( I'll have to give it a try! :)
Cook your peppers and onions before you put them on the pizza sub. That way they are warm and help warm your sub from the inside out before the bread can get too hard on the outside.
Great idea! Thanks for the suggestion! :D
Leave your French loaf cut in half and open on a baking sheet with all your toppings until they melt then put them together to make your pizza sub also maybe sauce and cheese on the open tops as well since Mr Wanders likes more sauce and to keep them moist?
Great ideas! I usually put sauce on the bread but I was trying a different recipe to see if it made a difference 🤷♀️ I think open face is the next way to try for sure! Thanks for sharing your ideas 👍🏼🙂
I always enjoy you chatting away in such a joyful way talking about everything you are doing. So fun. My favorite series.
Oh thank you 🧡 I’m so happy you are enjoying the series! Sometimes Mr Wanders says my channel could be called “Jessica Rambles” 😂 I love talking to you all!!
Use the stuffing mix as a coating for oven fried chicken and make yogurt or sour cream out of the milk powder.
Thanks for the suggestions :) I think that coating some chicken is a great idea!
You can mix powdered milk with fresh milk tto extend your fresh milk. If you get the ration right, you dont notice too much difference. Maybe it would work with canned milk also?
I'll really have to give this a try! Thanks for sharing!
Take your boxed stuffing and lentils and make a meatless meatloaf or meatballs. Lentil tacos, lentil sloppy joe in the Crock-Pot lenient Bolognese also in the Crock-Pot and lentils in a Sheppard's pie.
Also mung bean falafel. Mung bean coconut curry, mung bean and sweet potato cakes.
Thanks for all your thoughtful suggestions! So many great ideas for lentils and mung beans!! :D
Lentil are no my favorite but I have a 50 pounds of them we are trying to eat though and enjoy them. Those have been our top favorites. I was also gifted a large amount of mung beans. This has led me to many Indian and Japanese recipes. Thanks for the wonderful video.
Noodles with chicken, beansprouts, other stirfry vegetables in black bean sauce, yum!!!
Sounds fabulous! Thanks for sharing 😀
So excited for this year's challenge!!
Yay! I'm happy to have you here! :D
I always love the pantry challenge videos! Everything you made was so creative and looks so good 🎉😁😁
Thank you so much 🤗 I love having you here watching Delaney!
I make the stovetop with just enough water to hold it together. Cook it on waffle maker then top with canned chicken and gravy
That sounds brilliant! I don't have a waffle maker! I might think about getting one for this idea :D Thanks for sharing!
I know this is late, but I just found this video. lol
For the pizza subs, if you really don't want them crispy you can always just microwave them to melt the cheese! I've got braces right now, so anything crispy, especially that I have to bite into, is a no go. lol
Hi Melanie! I'm glad you found the videos! Thanks for the tips about the pizza subs! Yes...microwaving would work just fine :)
oh my goodness and the bad penny returns! LOL. missed you, Miss Jessica! Hope you and the Pirate Captain have had a marvelous holiday and are busy charting a course for your land yacht & formulating some exciting camper cookin content for us, - youre about ready to seed start, too arent ya? LOL
Hi! We had a fantastic holiday break with some family! I hope you and yours had a wonderful season too
Tamarind and your onion sauce and your aged tomato sauce and your harissa and black bean sauce mixed together with your left over hot sauces and some coca cola and brown sugar can be turned in to a pretty good BBQ sauce...and that Duram wheat what a gem that's flour is perfect for homemade pasta and pizza crusts..
Hmm I never thought of just throwing them all in together! Great idea! Maybe make some pulled pork with it or something! Great suggestions :)
@@JessicaWanders hey no problem just do like small cups and tbsp or you'll wind up with one big yuck and tamarind is a pretty strong fruit on its own I don't think we have them in my part of Texas but pretty close to boarder towns and they're popular in like north Mexico but I know worstershires tamarind and anchovies so I'm thinking that sauce is Lee and Perrins max that's gotta be strong crap .haha it's your cooking experiment your deal just may need some ant acid..good thing you have a in house guinea pig lol
this came up on my recommendations and its really interesting to see all the ingredients and the variety of food that u have in ur pantry. love from malaysia ❤
Welcome! I'm so glad to have you watching! I hope you enjoy the videos
I love the Rotel over my frozen chicken that I put in my instant pot. Add cumin and you have chicken tacos
Sounds great! Easy peasy 🙂
You and me purchase things similarly. Lol 🤣
I also have semolina in my pantry to figure out a use for.
Too funny
Split Lentils, especially Red=Masoor Dal!! Delicious Indian Dish :) Enjoy w/rice & maybe make samosas or pirogies & those are what Tamarind is for=to dip
Thanks for the tips!
I hurry up and got on thinking it was today! 😂 I thought how perfect your premiere then my 1st week of challenge premiere is tonight at 7:30 EST. Well I hope to catch you tomorrow for the premiere Saturdays are always iffy
Ohhh I'm excited to check yours out! Good luck :D
👏👏👏I’m so glad you’re doing this again.
I'm so excited for this year's pantry challenge! Mostly excited to not be going out anywhere ;)
With the tomato sauce and a little harisa sauce, you can make shakshuka. It’s got eggs and peppers and it’s amazing
I have made shakshuka in another one of my challenges but I've never thought to put my harissa sauce in it! Great idea! Thanks so much for sharing :D
@@JessicaWanders It is traditionally made with a bit of harissa. I couldn’t remember if you made it or not, but it’d be so good with the harissa sauce.
I'm going to try it!
@@JessicaWanders I live right over the border in Vermont and it’s sad and dark but not as much as where you’re at. You have my full sympathies. Winters are rough 😔
Glad to see you again friend! I hope you enjoyed your holidays! You were missed!
Thank you auntrowdy 🧡 I’m so glad to be back! I hope you had a wonderful holiday break as well!
Sprouted mung beans are essentially the same as sprouted soybeans, great for stir fries and Asian styles soups. You can also soak them and make them into sweet soup themselves, it’s a great soup to enjoy cold for summer.
Interesting! Thanks for the tips :) I’ve only ever used them in stir fry but I’ve always just bought them and never sprouted them before! I’m excited to try 😃 Last year I did alfalfa sprouts for the pantry challenge 🌱
For the powdered milk, use it in baked goods (either straight or make milk first with it and then use in recipes). It's usually low fat/skimmed, so keep that in mind when using it, but I have had no problems with it in things like breads, pancakes, muffins, etc
Hi outsanely 🧡 great to see you! I’ll have to bravely try it more. I really don’t like the taste of it so I worry it will affect the taste of things. I’m hearing a lot of people can’t tell the difference though…
@@JessicaWanders It might be worth trying a small batch of something, just to see. I know I personally don't like drinking canned evaporated milk, but I have no problem using it in recipes, so maybe it would be similar for you?
Oatmeal - granola. Corn flake crumbs - fried chicken or pork chops or cheesy potato casserole ( sometimes called party or funeral potatoes), pineapple - dehydrate or chick fil a copycat pineapple carrot salad.
Great suggestions! I’ll check those out for sure 🙂 I haven’t heard of funeral potatoes until today and the salad sounds fun!
Pantry challenge!! We are hoping to do as well but we are currently quite sick with Covid so no cooking is being done. I made a yummy tomato rice soup with left over plain tomato sauce. Just added sugar a bit of water, cream and rice cooked in broth. It was really good. For your condensed milk and graham crackers I think you could make hello dolly squares. I haven’t made them in years but I think it is a graham cracker crust layered on top with walnuts? Coconut, chocolate chips with sweetened condensed milk poured over the top then baked I think. I bet if you wanted to you could add some chopped up marshmallows? Worth looking into
Ohh no! So sorry to hear that you are sick :( I'm definitely going to check out the hello dolly squares! I've never heard of them! Best Wishes and feel better soon Susan
Glad you are doing another pantry challenge. I really enjoyed your last one.
For the pineapple add it to some fried rice. The stuffing is good for a simple layered casserole. Pulled or cubed ccoked chicken topped with gravy then cranberry sauce. Topped with stuffing and bake until desired crispiness.
The spaghetti looked great. I like to mix the leftover noodles in sauce and the next day I fry it in butter and top with parmesan, garlic and crushed red peppers.
Use some mayonnaise to coat chicken and roll in corn flakes. So good!
Hey Tina! Great to see you 🧡 Love the suggestions! Thanks for the thoughtful ideas 😀 I’ve never added pineapple to fried rice! I bet that’s amazing!
Tamarind sauce is awesome for Indian foods. I use it as a dipping sauce for bhajis, pakoras, and breads.
Sounds great! I do have a giant bag of onions to use up! Maybe some onion bhajis! Great suggestion :D
Pizza buns....adding extra time due to frozen peppers is what made it crispy. Also, squish it down like you would a muffaletta sandwich for less mess....
Thanks Sarah! Someone else suggested “smashing” it too in a similar manner! 😜
mung beans are usually in AfrIcan cooking. The bean paste is Chinese.
i thought of you Saturday. my husband makes a dish called beef basil. its a Tye dish with steak, bell peppers, onions and fish sauce and basil
Thanks for sharing! The Beef Basil sounds amazing!
I enjoyed watching Jessica! Thanks for sharing this with us! Have a wonderful week!
So glad! Great to have you watching lona :D
My mom always made pork chops with sauerkraut and onions. On the stove top . About 20 mins before serving, she would put stuffing mix in bowl, mix in very small amount of water, like 1/4 cup? Enough to stick together but not be wet. Shape into baseball/ soft ball shape. Put on top of the cooked pork chops. Gently simmer until moist and done. Would retain the baseball/ softball shape. Childhood fave, and the ball shape is what made it so good.
Sounds great! Like stuffing meatballs! Great idea! Thanks for sharing :)
An idea to use your powdered milk even though it doesn't use a lot is peanut butter balls. It is 1/2 cup powdered milk, 1/2 cup corn syrup, 1/2 cup peanut butter and 1/2 cup chocolate chips or, nuts, or seeds. Mix together and form into a ball about the size of a walnut. Enjoy. Do not double recipe, does not turn out.
Sounds great! I have run out of Christmas treats that we received from family! It might be time to do up something yummy! Thanks for the suggestion :)
You could make Ndangu (spelling) with the mung beans. Our Tribe of Many makes it on their channel. Her husband is Kenyan.
Sounds interesting! Thanks for sharing heather :) I'll check it out!
I was just wondering to myself when you might be back. Yay!
Happy to be back! :D
Just thought of something you could make with the cornflakes: Peanut butter chewies. This is something they use to serve in my grade school as a child. Now I make them for my son. They are quick, fast and at least this treat has something good for you in it.
Thanks for sharing Nancy! Those look sooo yummy! I think they'd be gone in a flash :D
Jessica you can’t get that broccoli casserole to brown you’re just gonna burn the noodles and burn the broccoli because there’s nothing on there to get toasty.. If you would’ve put the Parmesan on the top before you broiled it you would’ve had a nice crunchy topping but also with the cottage cheese melt and it’s not so lumpy… I’m used to cooking with cottage cheese because I’m Jewish and we make noodle kugel and you kind of want to get that cottage cheese to melt down to make it more appetizing looking
Pantry challenge is whatever you make it. The woman who created it says there are no rules except the ones you put in there. So it is your choice 😊
I agree 🙂
Another fantastic pantry challenge Jessica 👏 👌 ardent Michelle does alot of cheap meals with beans, lentils.... out of the box 4 me.
Thanks so much Jodie! I'm so glad that you enjoyed the video :) I do make a lot of meals with beans because I grow my own drying beans and lentils are always so cheap that I always have them on hand!
@Jessica Wanders yes lucky with the garden. U did well this year. She does eat for $1 or $2 a day challenge. I never think of beans 2 cook with. I'm looking forward to pick up ideas from u for beans. Kids r picky lol
@Jessica Wanders u could do a $21 challenge with items u have on hand n see what u can come up with. Little more difficult bit interesting to see. Then it's 2in1 😆
I love that idea! I think it might not be challenging enough! lol
@@JessicaWanders true as u can pair what u have
Awesome start to have specific items you are focusing on using up.
-Stovetop stuffing in meatloaf is amazing. Keeps the meatloaf nice and moist and also helps if you are using a fattier cut of ground beef.
-Powdered Kale is the perfect addition to smoothies, soups, casseroles, omelets, scalloped potatoes..etc. Greens boosters are a real thing and cost a fortune! You made yours. ❤️
-Skim milk powder may not be to your taste for drinking or on cereal but mix it up and keep it in the fridge and use it for all recipes & coffee. It works fantastic and you would never know the difference in cooked food.
The egg cups looked fantastic. I find them so helpful when I am trying to stay on track for breakfasts. Such an easy grab and go. I've never used pastry on the bottom of mine. Great idea. I have a can of crescent rolls in the fridge that's been there so long it's got a few little rusty spots on the metal. Lol.
Looking forward to next week.
Hey Melanie! Great to see you! 🧡 I hope you guys are all feeling better 🤗
I do like to focus on items that need to be used up. It gives me some direction in a pantry challenge and keeps meal planning fun and, hopefully, somewhat creative 😆
Thanks for all the great suggestions! I feel like we often think of the same ideas! It must be a Canadian thing 😉🇨🇦❤️ I’m having great success flogging the skim milk powder on Mr. Wander’s coffees 🤣 It’s so great having you here watching! Today is Week #2 and I’m still going strong 👩🍳
I love your pantry challenges. Heck I enjoy all of your videos.
Instant oatmeal cinnamon raisin cookies is one of my cookies heck
With the stovetop stuffing mix make a chicken bowl with mash potatoes, corn, chicken and gravy
Hi! I’m so glad you’re enjoying the videos 🙂🧡 I think cookies would be great! The chicken bowl sounds really yummy too! Thanks for the great suggestions Deborah!
Been waiting for this!
Me too. Jessica where were u 😆 jk
Yay! Great to see you :)
Powder milk mix half powder with whole milk. You won’t notice
Thanks for the tip! I'll have to give it a try :)
Black bean sauce is great on pork riblets. There are a ton of recipes online for them.
Hi Jenny! Thanks for the great suggestion :) I'll definitely check it out!
Sorry I missed this live. Looking forward to this series. You always get so creative and I’m looking forward to the next live because we have so much fun in the chat. 🙂
No worries! We'll catch you next time
Powdered milk can be used to make yogurt. Yes it's fat free so maybe some heavy cream could be added before culturing. I've done it and it turns out like regular yogurt from the store 👍
Thanks for sharing Andrea! I think I'll have to give this a try. I suspect it would be a pretty thin yogurt but that's not bad, eh?
@@JessicaWanders no not bad and if it's thin you can strain it like Greek yogurt
I make gnocchi and serve with spaghetti sauce. Delicious!
Sounds great! Have you made it with this semolina flour? Have you had any luck freezing the gnocchi to use later? I'm thinking about doing up the whole bag and freezing what we don't use?
you should try cottage cheese diced tomato (fresh) with black pepper or cottage cheese and pineapple
Yummy! Thanks for the suggestions jennifer :)
Love watching you in these challenges
Thank you jenni 😀 I’m so glad you’re enjoying the videos!
I pulverize the stuffing in the ninja & use it to bread chicken .
Great idea! It already has so many great spices in it :D Thanks for the suggestion!
You can use the powdered milk in bread recipes. Jello, marshmallows, your pineapple , with some cottage cheese you could make like a jello salad.
Thanks for the suggestions! Mmmm jello marshmallow pineapple salad sounds pretty yummy 🤤
I’m doing a pantry challenge too. Would love creative suggestions for using up rice cakes!
Slap some Nutella and sprinkles on it. Instant dessert.
Dear jessica ,other than sprouting mung beans ,you can add them to soups ,curries and dips .No need to soak.Hope this helps
Thanks for this info! I haven't tried them in curry but I'm going to check it out! :D
I'm excited for your 2023 pantry challenge! I love listening to your videos as I prep meals from my own pantry for dinners.
I struggled with using up cornflake crumbs too. 😆. Finally used mine up last years as toppings on baked Mac n cheese, breadcrumbs on broiled tomatoes and as breadcrumbs in meatloaf and meatballs. I stick to purchasing panko now and no other crumbs. Lol
Yay! I'm so glad you're enjoying the videos :D
I don't usually buy corn flake crumbs but when i do I usually end up using a small amount and have the entire box left over! These ones came in with family over Thanksgiving! I love the idea of putting them on broiled tomatoes but I hope this box is gone before tomato season! lol
I love your personality! It's like a family member running some ideas across. Very down-to-earth, and homey. 😁 Thank you for the ideas!
Btw, we use powdered milk for cooking. Works great!
New subscriber 🤍
Thank you so much 🤗 I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! Welcome to the channel!
Hi Jessica happy new year, I have recipe for your cornflakes crumbs and marshmallows. For cornflakes crumbs and use some spices and herbs mix and place in zip lock bag and coat your chicken drumsticks and use cooking spray to coat the chicken drumsticks and place on a baking sheet pan and bake in a oven 180 deg for 35 mins. Also with cornflakes crumbs make a cheesecake base. Marshmallow I make rocky road, but ones that you have in your cupboard I would cut them in half. I hope this will help you from down under 🇦🇺👍
Hello Australia
Just ran across your videos. Sounds good, going to try using up my pantry items too. I have lots of opened items to use up. Wish me luck. God bless you from grandma Katie in Oregon
Welcome!! Good luck using up your pantry items! It's great to have you here watching! :D
I MISSED YOU!!!❤❤
Thank you so much katrinbivens
Today i mentioned your channel at acre homestead vlog. I love Becky and her family, and i like your content and style. I hope you get some New followers.
Awesome! Thank you! 🧡
Cottage cheese, cinnamon, raisins and a little brown sugar is my fav!
That’s sounds amazing! Mental note 👍🏼😀
I'm so glad you are back! I have watched and re-watched all your challenge type videos, I plan to watch them all again lol. I'm glad you started with the pantry challenge, I need some ideas. I have been trying to do my own pantry challenge of sorts. I'm only buying foods that are an amazing deal, otherwise I have to make do with what I have. I just bought 40 pounds of fresh boneless skinless chicken breasts for $55.86, that's an amazing deal here. Anyway, I'll be watching for your next video. P.S. Tell Mr. Wanders we missed him too.
I'm so happy to be back in the cooking challenges! It seems like it was a long fall break. I would have had to buy that chicken too! What a great deal! Good for you :D He reads all the comments and appreciates all the love! It's always great when he's home for premieres and filming!
Your graham crackers and cornflake crumbs can be pressed into a pie crust and used for a cherry cheesecake..like with your pie filling..and the crescent thing your doing can be done with Bisquick drop biscuits...and crescent rolls instant bread sticks if you roll them out use some garlic butter and bake them like the package says to lol...but your stuffing mixes can be mixed with some shredded chicken and chicken gravy and mixed with some cornbread mix and turned into what we call country pot pie instead of pie crust we use stuffing with a cornbread or Bisquick top lol...but stuffing and chicken and gravy and sometimes cranberry sauce makes a Sunday dinner casserole lol...your crescent rolls thing can also be done with pancake batter I make pancakes poppers sometimes and bacon bits and maple syrup..turn out good and I use muffin tins for that myself lol.
Awesome! I love all the thoughtful suggestions! :D Thanks for sharing your ideas!
@@JessicaWanders haha I'm not a foodie just a cheap skate myself and I'm always doing crap like this but my mom would smack me ( not literally)if I was anything but nice or polite just like Canada apparently is known for polite eccentricity that's predominantly Texas but with hot sauce and more beer..lol but I'm not going to be a jerk to you or anyone and too many jerks on here I'd rather fun troll ( be nice ) and get some ideas but I don't mind meeting new folks from the comfort of my couch lol..but no weirdo here just a person with Asperger's and other crap killing bordom 😂
You can make marinara sauce out of your canned tomato sauce, make sloppy joes, spaghetti sauce, vegetable soup, minestrone soup, tomato soup, Spanish rice, stuffed peppers, chili etc.
All super ideas! I haven’t made minestrone soup in ages actually!
I love all your videos! ESP pantry challenge. The cottage cheese pasta looks good - I want to try it. I bet a little puréed pumpkin in it would be good too.
Thank you karenm! I'm so glad you enjoy the videos :D I loved the cottage cheese pasta! I really want to try it again with some added veggies. Pureed pumpkin would be great I think!
Kale powder in smoothies, spaghetti sauce, chili, when it is ground that fine a tablespoon here or there is fine. The stovetop stuffing, I used it instead of crackers in a meatloaf. So yummy. I added an egg, ketchup, a few shakes of Worcestershire sauce and the stuffing mix. It was a tad dry so maybe add 2 tablespoons of water but I used ground turkey so beef might be fine.
I’m finding that at least a TBSP I don’t notice at all! I’m loving it! I think I’ll have to make more next kale powder next year, for sure!
Great video😊 looking forward to the challenge👍
Awesome! Great to have you watching :) So glad you enjoyed the video!
This will help me go through my pantry
Awesome! I think we all have things hanging around that we could try and use up, right? :)
You could use dome cottage cheese to your lime jello to make a salad...lime jello, cottage cheese, miracle whip and pineapple sounds good to me.
Yum! That sounds amazing! Thanks for sharing that one :)
I don't know if you have a beef roast,
But my recipe is for pasta, slow cooked beef with coars chopped onion, some jus from the roast, other veggies if you like and at the and you stir in some cottage cheese, so yummie!!!
Usually i make enough slow cooked roast (stoofvlees in dutch) for 3 days, day one; potato /kale mash (boerenkool) served with the slowcooked beef on top.
Day two; Spaghetti with tomatoe, slowcooked beef and veggie sauce or the recipe above with the cottage cheese.
Day three; Fries with the beef on top (patatje stoofvlees ) and salad.
Awesome! That all sounds yummy! I wouldn’t have thought to add the cottage cheese to a roast! Those are some great ideas 🧡
To keep the bread from getting hard in oven put a pie pan with a little water in oven under the bread
Ohhh great tip! Thanks for sharing :D
So excited to see this video and series! Those cornflakes crumbs could be used in place of breadcrumbs in meatballs. And you could make meatball subs for a fun lunch with leftover meatballs.
As for the darker days, I read online this year that Dec. 21st (Winter Solstice) is the author's favorite day of Winter because every day after that is longer than the day before. So now I'm reminding myself every day that the sun will be out longer than yesterday to help me overcome my S.A.D. this year.
Micah!!
You can pound chicken real thin. Dip in butter, roll in corn flakes. Season dribble a couple T of milk and bake so yummy.
Sounds really yummy! Thanks so much for sharing! Really a super easy breading 🙂👍🏼
You could bread Chicken or pork chops with the cornflake crumbs
You bet! Great idea :)
Make pizza to use up your tomato paste. When we make pizza (which is every week) I use a can on tomato paste add a bit of water to the consistency you prefer we like it on the thicker side. I add a spoonful of sugar, a spoonful of Italian seasoning, a bit of garlic salt. Homemade pizza sauce. You can use your whole wheat flour for the pizza crust. Maybe top with the cherry onion stuff
For powdered milk make a quart and when you’ve used up some of your fresh milk take a funnel and tip off that gallon jug. You can’t tell the difference. Promise.
Thanks for your ideas for pizza sauce! The tomato paste I have even has garlic added so it’s so close to pizza sauce! I think I could use up a bunch! Great suggestion 😀👍🏼
Black Bean Sauce the ‘umami’ in a stir fry if You choose:pork or beef & vegetables
I’ll have to remember that! Sounds yummy!
@@JessicaWanders Delicious!! Yet another recipe I can share with You
I know this is old, but you can use black bean sauce on noodles. Its a Korean thing. Also, gnocci is Italian not French. Gnocci is a potato pasta made with potatoes, flour and egg. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thanks for the tips! Would you just put the Black Bean Sauce on the noodles by itself or with other vegetables or something?
Hi ! Look up Jajangmyeon. You can use it 2 ways. First, just mixed with noodles.. add cooked slice onions, pork chunks ( like cooked cubed pork chops) and raw zucchini slivers of all things. Second, you can cook meat, either pork or chicken in the bean sauce, add ginger, soy sauce onions and any other vegetables and spoon over white rice. I'm not Korean, but I order Jajangmyeon at a Korean restaurant as take out. The bean sauce doesnt really taste like anything LOL
Great to know! It sounds really good so I’ll have to give it a try 👍🏻🧡
Hey Jessica. I am a new subscriber. I plan on doing a pantry challenge in Feb and March. I really enjoyed yours. Let’s stay connected.
Hi! Welcome to the channel 👍🏼 I’m so glad you enjoyed the video 🙂 I’ll probably still be at it in February with my track record 😂
Meals look good
Yummy! :D
You can make hot cocoa mix with your powdered milk! :)
Great idea! That would be a great “enjoying the fireplace, cozied up” treat 🙂
Beware of tamarind, it can be very sour in taste. With tamarind paste you don't need much in a tecipe. I use it in Asian recipes, usually Thai. Powdered milk is great to use in baking.
Good to know Lee :) I think the Tamarind is a cooking and dipping sauce but I'm definitely going to give it a taste before I try it out! The only experience I have with the flavour is in in Mexican candies so I'm not sure how I'll like it...
I don’t do any canning or preserving, so I don’t have a backlog of jars like you, but I am still doing a pantry challenge this month. Going to use up all the stuff in my small garage freezer and really empty the pantry. Then I can give both a really good scrubbing. I will probably need to buy fresh fruits and veggies, though. You give me inspiration! A lovely way to spend a dreary Saturday afternoon with a friend.
I have a lot less home canning to use up this year! It's always a great time to stay home and find creative ways to use up things hanging around in the pantry. I can't wait to hear how you're doing with your pantry clean out! It's always great to have you here watching
