    What a beautiful ship... absolutely gorgeous!! The last GS I was in was a IV, back in the 80s. I was invited by my dad's old copilot on a flight to Houston, returning that evening. What a thrill!! I can’t imagine what flying in the 650 is like.

    Hi. It is a very technical video but very nice to watch if you are interested in knowing more about the G650. It is amazing how the humans can produce something like that. This aircraft deserves (like the G550 or the Falcon 7X) a superb pilot. Please make more videos of this wonderful bird. Even if it lasts for one hour, I'll watch it. Best wishes to all.

    I don't normally write comments about corrections but.. Hey AviationWeek I expected you guys/galls to be sharper on this. Saying and writing V2 decision speed 108 @ 1:28 was a mistake. The definition of LPV was also incorrect, should be Localizer Performance.. I know I'm not the first to recognize it and we all make mistakes, just wanted to help and point those out. Cool video otherwise!

    I dont understand people complaining it has too much range and needs to be faster. Not many jets go above the speed of sound and they are generally not allowed to under 60 000 feet. Generally jets can't get up to 60 000 feet. If it had less range people would complain about that. Its a very fast jet that can go far. I won't complain if someone gives me one. The planes I flew generally could not go over 700 miles and I am in helicopters now. 110 knots and 300 miles. Would love to be up and above the crappy weather at mach 0.9 going to Manila in the cold weather. Stop whining over silly things in areas you have no expertise. Good job Gulfstream. Remember me at Christmas, Thanks.

      Add to the mix, most of the "experts" are nothing more than FSX "pilots" and "UA-cam" "jet jocks" Personally, I have no need to travel to the other side of the planet on a regular basis... nor do I have the need to travel to the other side of the planet on a semi-regular basis... nor do I have the need to travel to the other side of the planet on an occasional basis..... nor do most (if not any) of the 650's critics.

    "Advanced features"..., a clock that has no GPS input, no auto fuel transfer, Ground spoilers that require one throttle advanced in order to remain in the down/stowed position, auto throttles that cannot be armed unless power is applied, no auto brake, (but they are testing it on the G280), the overhead panel is a dogs breakfast and don't get me started on the TROV... In their quest for a common type rating with the G550, Gulfstream sadly missed the mark.

  • @genie0390

    Why no sidesticks and why RR engines given shabby performance on A380?

    • @RedRider2001
      @RedRider2001 6 років тому

      LOL. A380 engines have nothing to do with these engines, and control yoke is a better solution to flight control than multiple side sticks for various reasons. Check out an AF447 documentary if you want to know more.

    • @genie0390
      @genie0390 6 років тому

      LOL RedRider, obviously the A380 engines are different than the smaller ones on the G650, BUT the hapless, shoddy workmanship and design can be attributed to the same Company! I am aware of AF447 and the right seat pilot's side stick over riding the left seat guy trying to correct the stall. That being said, why is Gulfstream claiming that side sticks are such a wonderful solution for their G500/600? In any event, referring to the G650, why the need for that little bit of extra speed?..and what is the significant offsetting cost of attaining that performance

    • @RedRider2001
      @RedRider2001 6 років тому

      Edited...
      Good question about the sidestick on the G500/600. I can only guess that with the G500/600 coming out later they decided to change to the sidestick configuration. It does give the pilots more room for meals especially. (I originally wrote the G650 came out later).
      As for that little bit of extra speed, keep in mind buyers of the G650 are going to be the richest people in the world. It can be a di*k size contest for some of them while others can actually take advantage of the speed and justify the extra expense. They can buy a perfectly good, new, biz jet for $10M or less but the G650 is selling starting ay $64.5M so a few extra dollars in gas isn't going to bother them.
      And I agree that RR reputation has suffered and for quite a while. They also cost Lockheed L-1011 sales years ago when the UK government had to bail them out. MD sold many more DC-10 jets and many of them crashed. You could say RR poor management indirectly caused many of those deaths. And then of course the A380 engine failure where the crew did a spectacular job of bringing that super jumbo home in one piece.
      As the British say, cheers!

    The last thing we need is a bunch of mini concordes cruising the airways.

    I don't understand why any new FBW aircraft still incorporate the big yoke. It seems such a waste of space. I think Airbus, Bombardier, Falcon 7x, etc have the right idea. "Sidestick" is the way to go.

      You can make better force feedback on a yoke vs a side sick. Which is why the 777 has a yoke.

      Maybe. Even so, is it necessary?

      Blonds or Redheads, take your pick. When the lights go out, does it really matter?

      Sorry, yokes are for aircraft. Joysticks are for video games.
      And the cockpit just looks so wrong with a joystick.

      Sidestick is the future, you either adapt or perish; like Kodak, they didn't believe in digital cameras and went bankrupt.
