How can we know if this scanner product will be able to detect odometer rollback on our specific vehicle we are thinking of buying, is there a list somewhere?
There is no list because it depends on the car model. Scanner can read those mileage data, but it depends on the car how many control units store mileage. I have more info about this on my website: www.iamcarhacker.com/how-to-find-mileage-tampering-with-obd2-live-data/
I did this today and checked the main area that states the milage. The milage on the scanner was a bit less that the digital dashboard - does this make sense? Should they match 100%?
I got mini vci and techstream but i dont see any milage related measure. Is it possible that old cars didnt used to store that info? Its 2004 lexus rx330.
I don't think it will be legal, if you currently live in the USA, you have to have your car checked every year, and the mileage is on the record, if you change, people who work for car inspection will know and won't accept your car inspection at any cost and you may punished for tickets or jail time. that is my opinion.
We also have those inspections in Europe. But for example, we have them every 2 years. If someone goes to an inspection with 200 000km, then drives the car to 270 000km and rolls back the odometer to 210 000 just before the next inspection, they won't know, and it is not on the record. Or if the car is transported from abroad, they can manipulate mileage before passing the first inspections. Don't know about the US, but there are a lot of "clocked" vehicles in Europe.
Wrong, that's only in select states. There are hundreds of thousands of cars in the US with fraudulent odometer readings. Its illegal to rollback the odometer on a car but criminals do not care about the laws.
Modern vehicles stores mileage data in multiple control units. You will be able to see real mileage IF they didn't adjust mileage in all control units. Here is an example where I found mileage data on 2 "clocked" cars: ua-cam.com/video/4TVi9cVUk4o/v-deo.html&t

@jamcarhacker Can you please do the same test to check original mileage on the car using the Think thinkcar thinksafe ?
@@ayanpaul1772 Yes, thinksafe is the best in this regard anyway.👍
Thank you, very practical and actionable!
Thanks Boris.
can you do this only with thinkdiag 2 or is it possible also with Thindiag? (thinkdiag is cheaper), thank you
Yes its possible with thinkdiag and also with all other scanners that can access all modules (bi-directional scanners)
@@iamcarhacker thank you, I bought thinkdiag and I thought it wasn't working...
You can also do it with thinksafe
What brand is your OBD scanner. Thank you
Thinkdiag2
Hi, is thinkdiag good? Can I see real miles?

thinksafe is better in this regard
Can work with bike? Fi engine there pls help
Hi great video!!
Thinkdiag mini can read total distance travel ?
Hello yes if your car stores this data, thinkdiag can read it.
Can other brands of OBD2 scanners connect to the thinkdiag+ application?
I connected to thinkdiag with topdon artidiag so if you have tablet scanner with bluetooth its possible.
I did this today and checked the main area that states the milage. The milage on the scanner was a bit less that the digital dashboard - does this make sense? Should they match 100%?
If I look on newer vehicle like 1-2 years, the mileage usually match 100%, but older cars tend to have little differences so I guess that is OK.
@@iamcarhacker thanks, it's a 2013 Mitsubishi Montero
The Mileage of digital dashboard and CDU - is not the same
Maybe difference of 50-250km.
There may be a deviation of up to 1000 km, this is normal and shows that it is original, so the mileage is no problem.
Does it work on toyota Corolla hybrid 2023?
Yes same car is in video (2022)
I got mini vci and techstream but i dont see any milage related measure. Is it possible that old cars didnt used to store that info? Its 2004 lexus rx330.
Yes, this works mostly on newer cars.
The problem is that all these control units can be adjusted to display the fake reading
So u can never know
Yes, that's true but lot of the times they forget to change everything.
I think the average speed can be reset
Can you change mileage?
Not with this
@@iamcarhackerwhich one is a make?
Is it possible to do the same thing using Ediag mini ??
Yes
Did it work for you??? Looking for a cheaper obd2 scanner to find true mileage of my car

Not every state does annual inspections.
