Can someone explain the original prompt to me? I know it isn’t a homestuck prompt so i need to know where it comes from for my sanity

It's a reference to the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, which is also where Hal's name comes from in the first place - the spaceship's computer, which goes off the rails due to a mismatch between its programming and the instructions it's given, is named HAL 9000.
