An asterisk in Excel essentially means "Followed By Anything Else". So this function is telling Excel to return the revenue of any company that has "Nike" in the beginning of it's name and anything else after "Nike" is valid as well.
This way, if there was a "Nike Co.", or "Nike Int." in the table, you don't have to specifically type the "Inc.", "Co." or"Int", as they ALL would be included.
This is info I wish was also shared. Thanks for sharing the concept.
thanks for your great input!
Can anyone tell me. During lookup functions . If there is multiple lookup functions and values are different. What will be the output ? For example in this case . In the company column if Nike was listed 2 or 3 times ? What will be the revenue output ?
I needed this so bad last week 😂 thank you!!
Are you able to perform this query if you have a list of companies with different name variations?
As formula was entered as you defined and I get msg "formula you entered contains error"
Cool

Try checking that data validation is active or not. Try clear all data validation. Also, your issue is not understood exactly.
