As an American I see France as a foundational part of our history and without whose assistance we wouldn't exist as a country...the most historically politically significant individual since the Middle Ages was French, actually corsican, whom I greatly admire. I feel about friends similar to people did a hundred years ago who were maybe eight 10 12 years younger than me now. When Germany invaded Belgium they thought France specifically Paris was the ultimate expression of Western Civilization volunteered for the French Foreign Legion and the Lafayette Escadrille out of republican principle... if France was invaded I feel like I would do the same thing as they did.

Odd that Latin Americans idolized de Gaulle. Did they not know France was like Spain, Portugal, England? They all worked the same gig - Imperalism - collecting colonies around the world.
