- I have a 1999 ML320 that had a starting issue. It would start and then turn off after about 1 second. It would do this repeatedly. Sometimes it would never turn on. Thanks to 43SQD from benzworld, i found a solution. It is a bad key sensor on the ignition. It is not sending a proper reading of the key and kills ignition in the car.
I went to my junk yard and found a 1999 ML 320 and a 2003 ML430. Pulled the parts from both. The 2003 had a differe t part number and fit right in. I used the newer part even though it had a different part number because it was newer. My ML now starts like a charm.
It took about 15 minutes to complete. Thanks for watching

The correct name for the part is transponder immobilizer not kill switch or ignition switch they are different
Watching 4 years later and have almost the same mileage on an 03. About 20 miles apart.
I have the same problem. In the past I changed keys and the problem got fixed. This time the key are in the back order and considering trying your method. Before you resolved it, did the security light on the dashboard blink while you had the key in the ignition? Did the security system recognize your key?

OMG!!!!! Thank you!!!! I am having the exact same problem I have had it five different mechanics no not the Mercedes dealer I didn’t want to be left out for taking the 1999 into Mercedes 🤣🤦🏼♀️. No one could figure out what was wrong and help me 🤬
An absolute ridiculous question I’m sure 🤦🏼♀️. But I have sound that win the car temperature is at least 85° I have no issues with it starting. I have went as far as to buy a space heater and put it in front of the Mercedes in the garage to keep the car warm in the winter. Thank goodness I live in Phoenix and it’s warm enough about eight months of the year. When Alex at least 45° in the car starts no problem it’s only when the car is called that it will not start???
And when it doesn’t start what does exact same thing yours does. Starts up ones for two seconds and then dies.
Could this be the same problem you were having?
It could be. I think there's something in the sensor that works better at certain temperatures. For me once the car started and I kept driving, it would start fine. When it was cold it usually had more issues starting. This is such a cheap fix, it's worth a shot.

Hi, I have 2003 ML500. I open the door, car comes to life? All warning lights on dash, cabin fan motor on, start error on led odometer. I remove a relay under the hood, a bunch of times, maybe it goes back to “normal” or wait 1/2 hour and then normal. Start up & drive away. Works fine rest of the day. Then tomorrow maybe normal or maybe repeat.
I have $3K of dealer & independent Merc guy, can’t fix it? Any ideas? Thanks

Did you change the invention tumbler? Did you get it program? Abou how much you paid for the parts?
I just plugged it in. Didn't need to do anything. Just swapped it out. I paid about 15-18 dollars for the part from a junk yard
so i have a ml 430 2001. my runs but then when i step on the accelerator it does get it so i have to turn it off and turn it back on so it to get the gas pedal do you know what could it be
It could be a variety of things? Maybe the TPS sensor or maybe the camshaft sensor issue. Check those to start.

Thanks for the great video. I was just wondering, I have a mb ml350 2004 and every time I start it..it always has a false start then I have to wait and start it again and it starts right up. If I stop for maybe 10 mins it doesn't have the false start. But for maybe over 30mins stops it will do that. Do you think it might be my key ignition sensor (key transponder immobilizer) or maybe the gas pump is not pulling enough gas to help it start on the 1st try? Thanks!
It is hard to say. It could be this or you're right, it could be the pump or even a crank sensor. Any engine lights?
Did you figure out the problem? Was it your fuel pump? Or Ignition switch?
Does the original key work? Or did you have to get the key for the new part from the junkyard?
No. I kept my key. Since it's just the sensor and not the actual AAM it does not need to be programmed. Just swap it out and your key will work.
Did your key still work to unlock and lock the doors with the fob?
@@stevedelisle4549 the fob is unaffected. That connects to a different part of the computer. If for some reason the fob ever loses connection (which should not happen with this fix). You can reprogram. If you google the instructions you can find them.
I replaced the sensor with another one and it’s doing the same the problem.
What else you think can be the problem ?
Was it new? If it was used, then it might be a bad unit? Sometimes the chip inside the key breaks off from its location. If you can shake the key and hear it rattle. That may also be ur problem.
Did you get any codes before you changed out the sensor?
No codes. At least not w a standard reader. I don't have a Benz reader.
i am about to order one, i hope it works. i just took my old one off. im scared cause after i took the old one off i tired to turn the key for the heck of it and the key will not turn at all...

Hi i also have an ml320 it does the exact same thing.Well first it will lose power u will only be able to drive at around 20km.Then if u park it and turn it off it wont start for the next 12hours to 24hours.It does the exact same thing when trying to start it. Could it be the same issue like urs.
Sounds to me like your car is going to LIMP mode. So the computer is limiting the engine. You need to hook it up to a code reader and if u don't have check engine light on. It might be a transmission issue that needs a differenr reader for those codes.
Hi does it appear just with warm engine ? if yes its the crankschaft sensor
pay attention dont trust this video you cant swap parts like this without coding it only the ignition coil can be swap without coding.. I have 2 mls 320 since 15 years now the one has 443k on the tacho
@@kennigen5739 yes the very first time it happened was on a very hot day.It was about a few weeks after the car just came from getting a brand new steering rack straight from Germany.Ever since it came from the mechanic its been doing this every now and then.But thanks i will pay attention to what u said .
Good day. I have an ML320 1999 and it does the same thing when starting. What happened was that when I was driving, I stopped at the robots and when I tried to take off and accelerate it did not move as if it had no power. I switched it off and and tried to start it again but it starts but does not idle and switches off. What could be the problem?
It actually could be your crankshafts position sensor. Very common on these and super cheap and quick to replace.

HELP ME SOMEONE TRIWD STEALING MY CAR they got it almost started before I saw them my hood was open and my ignition was torn apart the cylinder and my car was stuck halfway on and I had to unplug it to not kill the battery I replaced the cylinder and now my key fob doesn't work even with a new battery in it and my car won't start the ignition does not make the click sound that it would normally make and when I hook the battery up it still turns part way on and when I try to turn it off with the key it does nothing, I have no car and have to travel from Moses Lake to Seattle for my cancer doctor please any advice
That's hard to figure out. They could've disconnected or tampered w the main computer. Did they try to jam something through the key igntion? If u saw ny video. There is a sensor around where the key goes. If they took that out or broke it. It needs to be replaced

Did u buy a new ring sensor or used? If it's used it could be a bad unit?
Did you notice if your Red LED security light was flickering before you changed the ignition key ring?
Mine doesn't have that led light. That or my led doesn't work. So I never noticed that at all
@@vloggydelight6874 your red led light is above your fog light button. Its the light that blinks to let you know your key is being read by the transponder reader that is around your ignition and that your immobilizer is reading the key.

I paid 15 at my local junkyard. So st 95 that's a lot more than I would pay. You might consider getting it new from the dealer at that price.

Need help I have a 1999 ml430. I have got my starter change and my alternator checked and everything and the mechanic said everything on the car is great even the battery. Only problem is that sometimes the car starts and sometimes it don’t. I turn it all the way and all the lights come on and work with the window and all and the car still won’t crank. Idk what the issue is with car Fr I’m thinking is the transponder but my mechanic telling me I need a ignition switch.
Literally there nothing with the car at all no lights come on when it wants to start so idk what the issue is.

I have 1998 Mercedes, it starts, but hard to turn steering wheel, thought I need transmission fluid, but was good. What could my problem be?
Your power steering is out or it might need fluid. If its out of fluid, you might have a leak. Is your serpentine belt good?

Do any of you know why does mine just keeps trying to start until it turns off?
I have no idea. It could be many reasons. If it starts and dies like mine does in this video or the video I linked. It could be the fix it showed.
when i turn the key the car just clicks and thats it, no crank/turning over what so ever. Its not the battery or the fuses or relay...
It sounds like a bad battery or the terminals to the battery are in bad shape. Did u get the battery checked? Are the terminals nice and clean?
@@vloggydelight6874 the terminals are clean and all the lights and stuff works. I tested it with a multi-meter and its a nice 11.89V. When someone else turns the key, the multi-meter says that the battery is at a constant 11.89V.
Next step is to check the starter. Sometimes when they die you can give them a nice knock with a mallet ir even a hammer to get it started again. But it will need to be changed if it is the starter

@@reki353 sometimes the ground cable to the terminal of the starter relay gets exposed. Check that? Wrap it w electrical tape. Also check the starter relays, and fuses

1999 Mercedes ML430
1. Check engine Light
Code: P1747 P0105 P0410
2. ETS Light
3. BAS/ESP Light
P0105 correlates to the MAP Sensor (Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor), which is on the front left of the engine near the idler pulley mounted by a single fastener to a bracket from the water pump. It has a vacuum line or two and an electrical connector going to it.
Check it very carefully, the lines get brittle and crack, sometimes it is hit during maintenance and a line falls off or a nipple on it breaks (it can also be damaged if the idler pulley fails and the belt whacks it). It's easy to change and not terribly expensive, either.
Here is the procedure you should use to find out what the problem is for p0410
1. check fuse #45 in the underhood fuse/relay box and see that it is not blown.
2. remove plastic engine cover.
3. with a cold engine, have someone start the engine while you determine if the Air Pump is running. If so immediately shut the engine off. If it does not run, post back for further directions.
4. remove both Shut-Off Valves. There is only one bolt that holds each one. Also make sure you remove the small metal gaskets.
5. have someone start the engine and with your hands feel that there is exhaust fumes coming out of the two open ports on the engine where the Shut-Off Valve occupied.
Ets and bas/ESP you should check the brake pedal sensor. Easy to change. Once u change it. It should clear up if it is that sensor.

A bad ring will do that. But it could also be other things. This is a cheap and easy job. It might be worth it to change out and eliminate one possible cause. Just make sure that the part you use is a good one. I had the bad luck of changing out my front differential. I bought it used and had to go through 3 before I finally found a good one.
