Health supplement are literally NOT GOOD for your health at all. Either they don`t do anything or they literally poison you. Many people lost their livers due to supplements. It was all over the news lately.
That was a long commercial. Hope you were well compensated.
No offense, skill share is a waste of money. Just get a book from the library for free.

When I got married I got a generic cake that I decorated myself and told the baker it was for a "special occasion", because when they hear the word "wedding" the price goes up astronomically. I also did my own flower arrangements, my own wedding invitations, favors and the bridesmaid's dresses came from Ross clothes stores and the best men's Aloha shirts came from Costco. We also kept the guest list to only 80. It turned out beautiful and we actually MADE money on our wedding. We kept getting compliments years after our wedding.
I say pay for quality. If you only have to buy something once and get to use it for decades, then you win.
Exactly. If something is expensive but will save or make you that same amount of money in the future it’s not expensive.
The trick is to find the quality item and price is not always a guide. Also if you pay twice as much, then the item needs to last more than twice as long to be worthwhile - you need to take into account opportunity cost for your money as well.
His point (and it’s mere opinion) is that the extra “quality” of these enumerated items is not worth the extra price. That’s often a matter of personal taste, or how one plans to use the item.
An older woman I know (a bookkeeper, no less) asked for help moving some things out of storage. She had several different units in the facility. I was shocked to learn she paid about $900/month for all the units and that she had had the units for several years. I was even more shocked to see what she was storing -- worthless Walmart-grade furniture and boxes of paperwork dating back to the 1970s. She told me she was going to empty out the units to economize, which I implored her to do. That was in about 2017. It's January 2024 and I recently found out she still has the units. That's about $65,000 paid to store useless junk (not including what she had been paying for years before that). It's astonishing.

I assume you understand how very smart people have anxiety issues that impair sound decision making. People who keep things they don’t need are often paralyzed by the fear of tossing out something they’ll end up wanting or needing the day offer they toss it. It’s hard wired in some folks.
I am aware of how that sort of thing affects people, I have known people like that. I was just focusing on the financial waste such a mindset can create.@@bucklaughlin906

That doesn’t really help. I tried for 20 years not to want things with this attitude, and I discovered that neutralizing your feelings is the opposite of pursuing life.
@@M_SCit’s definitely helped me save a lot of money, so I think it works everyone’s different I guess, all about balance at the end of the day but life is all about choices… at the end of the day do you really have the money to buy that thing or are you just buying it to feel better and get validation ?
Great points. Most luxury-brand cars are money pits with the exception of a few. I bought my Lexus LS 430 for $6,000 and my Porsche 911 for $14,000 several years back. They've both been fantastic cars and super reliable. Granted, I don't skimp on maintenance but I love these cars. You just gotta be smart, let someone else pay for the depreciation, don't neglect maintenance, and you can get a sweet car for a great price.
The US is somewhat of an oddball country in the sense that the automobile is the default and main form of transportation. So while it sounds like you got a great deal on your two cars, the reality is that compared to, say, public transportation, walking, or bicycling, the cost of driving is at least several thousand dollars at least per year.
And yet, only the poor, the ill, the very old and the very young don't have cars in the US (ie slightly more than half of the US population owns a car). Notably, most employers will dump a resume straight into the trash if they know that candidate doesn't have a car.
My dad would bring my little sister and her friends to the movies years ago. He brought a handful of brown bags. Bought one large (free refill) popcorn and filled each brown bag. Went back for more. Genius.
This is what I do. One theatre in town has serve yourself popcorn with free refills.
I bring small bowls (10 oz) in my diaper bag and me and my six kids split popcorn. I buy one large so I’m not having to get up and refill every 5 minutes, but it’s worked really well for us.
In other words, you’re a thief.
@@fumanchu9701 what's the difference between buying one free refill and filling it 3 times and buying 3 free reefills and filling every one just once? They're all the same, but you as a customer payed less with the first option. For big companies it doesn't matter - 1 kilo of corn grain costs like 1-2 dollars at max! And they sell it for what, 8 dollars for one bag? Cost of selling it is at least 16 times bigger... don't cry so much about being a thief because someone used his free refill as they wished :D
@@alicjasara8571 because 1 person normally only drinks 1 cup (or maybe two at a push). Yes it’s unlimited because most cinemas know this and price their drinks accordingly knowing that a person won’t drink 69 cups. Doing what you saying affects the cinemas bottom line and then the cost of everything then goes up for everyone else.
Going by your logic, you could go to the cinema with 30 friends, and 1 person buys an unlimited fill up cup. The other 29 can bring their own. Have you tried applying this logic to a eat as much as you can food buffet ? 1 person pays then your mates all bring their own plates !!!
Come on. I know people do it, but it’s true that the cinemas (or whatever other business) will then push prices up. You know it’s wrong too, otherwise why do people hide their cups when they enter the cinemas?
The best weddings I've been to have either been small in scale, or economical in nature. When you're forking out tonnes of money to plan for everything to be perfect, inevitably something will NOT go right and the veneer of fairytale perfection will be compromised. I've seen it happen so many times.
Best focus on the actual important things - the bride, groom, and the people in the room who care about them. Everything else is just decoration.
Most enjoyable wedding I attended had a pot-luck afternoon tea reception. Great vibe, low-cost for the couple, and everyone felt part of the wedding. And no one (especially the couple) were exhausted by the time it was all over.
I agree with everything except I insist on having my Lexus serviced at the dealership. I also don’t consider Lexus a “luxury” car brand, it’s just a fancy Toyota. I bought mine 7 years old for under $20k before the pandemic. I hope I can drive it to 2040. My father is still driving his 1989 LS400 💪🏻
It really depends on the dealership. My local Renault dealership tries to scam you at every turn, charging double or triple the price of other mechanics. They even find faults on my car that don’t exist. For example, my front headlight was “broken”, as the light was a bit lower than usual. They wanted to charge 600€ for a total replacement. An independent mechanic reworked the electronic system and fixed it for 50€.
I agree, and it also depends on the dealership. The Honda dealership in my city gives good quality service compared to independent auto shops for a small fraction of the price difference. Example, replacing some oil seals for the engine oil leaks, the dealership charged $20 more than the independent auto shop who took 6days to fixed it compared to the dealership that fixed it for 1½ day.
Alcohol is up there with top things that are a waste of money. I get so frustrated thinking of my younger self and how much money I wasted getting wasted. I have nothing to show for it. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the occasional beer, but getting slotted every weekend was absolutely pointless.
Business class seats for long haul flights, luxury hotels, and high end gym memberships are all absolutely, definitely worth it. Total game changers.
I completely agree the high end gym membership is not a waste. The ability to expand your network with individuals at your level or aspire level is extremely valuable. I had a casual chat with another member for a few minutes after a workout and had 2 interviews lined up at my targeted companies within the week. Also, health is wealth which was mentioned on another over 40 video of his.
Maybe but only get them once your investments can pay for them, don't pay for them out of your 9-to-5 income
I'm fairly new to your channel and I enjoy your videos. The timecodes is very helpful. Even when I'm familiar with the list, I still watch the whole video. Similar videos with no timecodes is a waste of my time. Your videos have quality - clear and concise.
I always fly with a family member who traveled often enough for business he had points, upgrades, and all the perks of being a frequent flier.
In flight WiFi was always included…..I’ve never actually seen it work. At best you’re getting early 2000s dial-up performance.
One of the things that did seem worth the cash, particular “clubs” at the airport. The standout was the Delta SkyClub at LaGuardia. Upscale food, alcohol, and accommodations assuming you have time before or between flights to utilize it. They’re not always that nice, but if you can get your workplace to fund it, or have a credit card that includes it as a perk it can be very worthwhile

Service if you are a skilled individual. Get the jobs well done and save a ton of cash

What is travel hacking? Never heard that one before.
It’s basically using credit cards to pay all of your bills. For instance, I got a capital 1 for 75k points if I spend 5k in 3 months. Thats easy because I just pay my bills with it and use the cash to pay the card by the end of the month. It’s best if you have a spouse because after 3 months you can refer your spouse and get an additional 75k for referring and the spouse also gets 75k in points. I’m going to Greece and I can stay in a hotel for 5 nights 180k in points. So that’s free for me. I don’t have a spouse so I got the initial 75k and have used the card for a year so far. That’s how I got the points. But you can see how much quicker it is to get points if you have a partner. The hack comes in also when you apply to other credit cards and do the same thing. Some people end up getting their flights and hotel for free. I work with a couple who does this. They are orthodox and have 7 kids they send to private school. Just by paying the tuition alone with the credit cards gets them thousand of points.

I am guilty of paying for the self storage. I have a ton of things in there from my last move that I never figured out what I will do with. I will take an inventory of my items, sell what I can, and dispose of the rest.
The one thing I would disagree with is first-class flights - but not all of them. Specifically, when you are flying to Europe, and first-class is the difference between sleeping and not sleeping. If you can sleep reliably and well in coach on a flight to Europe, then fine. But I can't, so I shell out the money or miles for first-class and get the sleep. Not only does it give you the equivalent of an extra half-day in Europe, it improves your enjoyment of the next three days as well because you're not recovering from that rough night a few days ago. What you're really paying for is time - more time and more pleasurable time - and time is the one resource we can never replace once we've wasted it.
Subjective. If you can afford it, great. But for many of us, that extra $2.5K to Europe could go a long way in making the experience more enjoyable, especially if the flight is not a whole day affair.
Why don't you settle for business class ?

Agree. When you’re flying 13 hours for a one week trip being able to sleep on the plane is worth the money. Not 10x but likely 4x which is what business would cost . Business class also has perks like lounge access and expedited screening in some places so you won’t need to pay for that expensive and terrible airport food 😊
Lol there is no way I'm going to pay like $4000 just for one better night of sleep. You say it's about making the most of your time... But how many days of extra work do you need to do to pay that difference off? Haha.

I have commuted on the same train for the past 25 years. An RV storage lot is adjacent to the tracks and I have gone by thousands of times and there are RVs that have been there the entire time I have been commuting. A few of them have not moved in that entire time. I have literally watched these RVs decay - paint peeling off, tires flattened, probably leaking and full of rainwater and mice. I can't imagine what they have paid out over the years. It's like having a vampire in your financial life.

Movie theatres/ cinemas worldwide make money via food & drink ( like restaurants with alcohol) more than the ticket price.
I have an unlimited ticket so more than 2 films per month & I'm in credit ( I can get a discount on the food & drink) but I thank all the others that need to drink ( the food - why?) when they watch a film
Zara isn'ta luxury brand ( for many ) but fast fashion can be expensive ( so lucky I'm a chap).

Just because a college is for profit doesn't necessarily mean it is overpriced. It's likely that it has a higher price because it doesn't get direct subsidies from federal, state, and local tax revenue. College overall is very expensive and overpriced if you are not entering a field with high-paying potential.

Another one - phone plans. You can likely save a TON of money by using an MVNO plan like Red Pocket or Straight Talk. If you’re worried about deprioritization, I would go T Mobile.
Also stop upgrading your phones, especially through your wireless provider, every time you can get an upgrade. Buy a refurbished flagship from 2 years ago. It’ll be less than 50% the cost and will still feel as fast and have most of the features of the newest phones.
I’d avoid midrange phones as they are often more expensive than a 2 year old flagship and lack a LOT of the features of the older phone.
about collectibles, do it as you please, just dont justify it as an investment, do it as it is supposed to be a hobby, something that you really like and have time, money in space, I have mi collection of minifigures in check, I dont plan to sell any, I will give it to my kids eventually, but remember, those books in the background are a collection, just make sure to do it because you fell right about the items, not because a trend.

Great video!!! However I'll say that a self unit can be absolutely worth it and in fact a way to save money (assuming you can't get rid of some things).
I live in California so the rent is very high. It's actually cheaper to get a self storage unit and live in a studio apartment than to get a bigger apartment with no storage unit.
And, if you want to have some side hustle like selling products online and you live in a HCOL area, the storage can make you money by giving you a place to store your inventory without increasing your home's rent.
You can reduce costs even more by living in your storage unit. 😄

Absolutely. I once got a small storage “closet” for less than $100/mo in NYC. There is NO WAY I would have gotten this much extra room if I paid $100 more in rent!
Lol I literally don't spend on a single one of these, except in the past I have rented a tiny storage unit for about $35 per month to house my hunting gear and winter tires since I was living in either small apartments without storage, or sharehouses where I don't want my rifles accessible.
I'm curious. How was that though? From where I am, we don't have rented storage units and I kinda wondered how that affected people storage-wise and financial-wise.

The idea of overpriced brand names extends beyond just clothes. Buying generic brand groceries, medications, and disposables saves a ton of money.
Equinox you're only paying for the 'cleaning' fee. but the workouts and equipment are the EXACT same thing as a 24hr fitness, or LA Fitness. plus, in a 24hr/la fitness they have full court runs in the bigger cities that last till 12am or 1:30am, you'll never get competitive hooping that lasts long hours at Equinox or hi end gyms...EVER.. and what's funny is that I ran into a trainer while running errands and he asked me 'are you at Equinox'? I replied, 'No, it's too expensive'. he told me, 'good. it is overpriced and you get the same workouts/equipment at a chain gym.'
I work in the auto industry. I assure you that OEM parts are overrated and most dealer shops these days will also use better aftermarket parts. Non-OEM doesn’t only mean Autozone parts. Often times the aftermarket parts are better than the original, much of which isn’t even made in Germany or Japan anymore. Sometimes there is even no choice but to use aftermarket as OEM parts don’t last for ever as they run out of inventory. Sometimes there is no choice other than the OEM (like a seat belt or an engine computer, etc). But yes, there is zero reason other than inspections (the dealer will check EVERYTHING on your car because it’s in their best interest to) and recalls. Most vehicles don’t ever need to see a dealership because we can buy the exact same parts and install for much less labor overhead.

There's those luxury bus trips that you see in Japan, South Korea, etc that cost around $150 that take all night. If you are a tourist and are splurging then that's something you would enjoy.
I think it’s strange to lump in timeshares and life insurance with greeting cards and hand soap in the same video. If we’re talking about barriers to building wealth, some of these are vastly more consequential than others. I think it would’ve been better to focus on just the BIG money pits people waste money on (that will actually keep you broke), and have a separate video on how to save money on some smaller everyday purchases
I guess it does highlight the point though that building wealth is about thinking about both the small and big choices you make. You make those choices that cost an extra $1 or $2 dozens of times per week whenever you buy lunch, get groceries, etc - can easily add up to thousands of dollars a year which is about as much as you save with picking a less nice hotel on vacation once a year
I think it's better to have them in the video because different people with different pockets are going to watch it. It's not about the amount of money that you save. It's more about building mindset. With this mindset, you will think of products in terms of value efficiency or return on investments, and you can apply this approach to all amounts of money.
Great list. I completely agree. Movie theaters in general are becoming outdated. I can no longer justify going to a theater when all the movies come out for rent online so quickly.

I love going to the movie theater but it has truly gotten insanely expensive. The concession stand has always been a ripoff because the theater makes its money there, but the actual ticket prices these days are nuts. Still, I like seeing a movie on the big screen with an excellent sound system and a (good) audience. Watching a big action or fantasy movie at home just doesn't compare. :(
Movie theater food and event (sports, concerts) has always been expensive. We were sneaking food into theaters decades ago.
I would add purchasing alcohol at restaurants to this list, unless it’s a really special occasion. Mark up is usually insane. Look for 1/2 price Happy Hours. Those are usually worth it.
Or buy up a good assortment of liquor, wine & liqueurs you can enjoy at home.
Or stay sober. :P
with cards: you can use just blanket paper and write address and specific greetings as well. The best one was greeting on the coaster from pub:)

Hey man. You've got some incorrect information about a mega backdoor roth in your previous video. I really think you should fix that.
I worked for a publicly funded community college. We actually saved a group of Navajo students when a private college went out of business. They were able to finish their program with us. Public colleges have to be certified, they have lots of oversight, and teachers are certified. They champion diversity and offer a wide range of services. Since they prepare employees to work in local businesses and industries, please support state funding for them to make tuition lower.

Airport food: if I'm traveling with work and expensing food, I eat every connection and never get on a plane hungry. Being hungry and stuck in a plane for a long flight is no fun. I bring snacks and sandwiches if traveling on my own

I have a friend who's got worthless crap in storage unit. He's had stuff there for decades.
Used to have a bimmer and then got an accord 2.0 sport. The accord is so much easier on the wallet and I’m not visiting the mechanic every month. Now I get to travel more often. Luxury cars are such a waste of money.

Well, the thing Tae is that some Collectibles are going up in value. You are right, not all of them, but some of them. My video game collection literally grow 6-7 times it`s value. I am to the point asking me if I should sell it because my insurance company is not able to provide coverage for it.
My own view is that one should not accumulate things that are made to be collected. That’s the stuff that crashes. Yes on #4 I get free maintenance at the dealership and they will tell me when I need new filters. I watched on YT for my car how to do that and I do them all myself. I can buy enough filters to change out for the whole year(s) for less than 1 time of them doing it
Only take your car into places for serious jobs. Standard filter and fluid replacements etc should be in everyones skillset. It's all so basic you can do most of them in less than 15 mins with a youtube video and a wrench. Most of the parts cost $10-30 tops.
Doing oil changes yourself can be a dirty inconvenient job that takes a toll on your body. Shops have more convenient access & can also alert you of other problems they may observe from their better vantage point. I used to do my own oil changes until I realized a good shop can do a better job.
How do you customize your greeting cards?
You just write "Happy Thanksgiving" in it or whatever occasion you are celebrating, then add something like "may you have many more" and sign your name. You can fancy it up with drawings or your photography if you want.

I get a better deal on tires at a dealership and get an alignment at the same time at a discount, my car comes back washed and vacuumed. Costco tires are cheap but you have to make an appointment for a free rotation and balancing and if the store is busy, then you’re stuck waiting.

The luxury brand cars aren't always a waste of money. 1. You have to define luxury cars, because what you showed was really exotics. There's entry level luxury brands like mercedes, bmw, audi, caddilac, lincoln, volvo, lexus, acura and infiniti, then high end luxury like rolls and bentley, then sports cars, then exotics/hyper cars. All very different. Buying these cars brand new is a waste, granted, but not used; a used lexus with 40,000 miles can be had at a good price, and it will last MANY miles with very little maintenance. THAT is actually a cost savings. Brand name clothing is another one. Decent brands are actually WAYYYY higher quality than no brand clothes, or house brands by meijer/target or any big box stores. While true that exotic brands like gucci or louis vittuon are high quality, the quality you DO get TOTALLY isn't worth the price. If you get decent brands like levi, wrangler or Ralph Lauren, and you know how to wash them properly (use powdered detergent, cool or warm water, with a whole house water filter, and dry in warm not hot) they will last exponentially longer than no brand clothes will. I can buy a pair of quality khakis and keep them for 5 years or more when I buy brand name. Not the same can be said of target house brands.

I want to punctuate Tae's point on collectibles, specifically baseball cards. I used to collect feverishly when I was a kid. A good friend and I would buy cards by the box, then take them home and open every pack, looking for the hot rookie cards. I sold my entire collection in the early 90s, prior to joining the military. I never got back into the hobby, and never even followed the market. A couple of years ago, I learned of a baseball card show near me with free admission. Out of curiosity, I attended the show. There was not a soul in that room under the age of 50. Not a dealer, not a customer. What I realized that day was that baseball card collecting is a hobby that isn't going to survive. At best, it can hope to become an incredibly niche hobby. I often heard the word "investment" used when I was still in the hobby, although in my teens I didn't have an appreciation for that term. I would love to see a study on long-term collectors, and how their investments have fared over the years.

What clothing brands do you like?
Hi Tae Kim, how do we stop comparing our own progress with others? Some people become millionaires in very short amounts of time (like for example 2-3 years), or become billionaires before they're 30. It's so disheartening to see how slow my progress is in comparison, and I am always very tempted to go much harder on myself and force myself to work harder and achieve as much as them so I can be better than them, but it always backfires.
Comparison is a thief of joy. There will always be someone younger than you with less responsibilities and earning more money while living with their parents, thus building wealth faster than, let’s say, a married person with kids and a mortgage. It’s just life. Everyone has a different path and different circumstances - just accept and love yours and compare yourself to your yesterday’s self. Good luck!
Most billionaires come from rich families, but like to believe they are self-made. They had a safe childhood with good experiences like travel and special schools. Their family paid for prep schools that feed into ivy league colleges where they met other influential people and from there they were recruited into high paying companies.
Some of us take vitamins because of health conditions. I myself cannot absorb all the nutrients in the food I eat, and need to take vitamins to supplement my diet and prevent further illness.

Hi end gyms are worth it in my opinion. Cleaner, weights aren't scattered, machines aren't broken, less crowded, great amenities and it's actually pleasant going to the gym. It's worth it.
