Jones thought he had the team in a box with his huge contract and no apparent relief from it...the pres just peeled the tape off all of the box's seams and kicked Jones to the curb. I am surprised he lasted this long with his now 8-33 record. The dismal record, the sheer arrogance of the man, and the dispirited and disorganized team on display, especially at home games sealed his fate.
The Elks is a new name, albeit not well thought out product branding. So when do all the players and coaching staff change over to wearing purple fez's complete with yellow tassels? Just asking.
None of this was Chris Jones's fault. When BC started 0and 5 they did not fire Wally Bouno instead they acquired Arland Bruce and went on to win the Grey Cup. Until Tre Ford starts games for the Elks they will continue to lose. If the spurs fired Gregg Popovich before he got David Robinson and Tim Duncan than there would be no legacy to talk about. The only thing Chris Jones did wrong this year is not start Tre Ford. He is a superstar caliber talent and all the Edmonton Elks are doing is keeping him on the sideline which is pointless. If anyone thinks that Bethel Thompson is going to win games consistently than there nuts. His best days are clearly behind d him. He is still capable of winning in the CFL but he is no longer an elite level QB in the CFL. Tre Ford last season had the Elks winning and extremely competitive until #2 Tre Ford starts every game this team will continue to be average at best. Jarious Jackson and Geroy Simon can't do anything from the sideline the players win and lose games all the coach can do is game plan. If this were Chris Jones fault I would tell you it is but it's not..Let Tre Ford play if you want to win games in Edmonton bottom line. Stop blaming coaches. Unfortunately Chris Jones was in a difficult situation here. However he is not the reason the Elks are 0 and 5. It's the idiots that keep committing penalties in the 4th quarter and missing defensive assignments and missing Field Goals fumbles Interceptions kicking the ball out of bounds none of that is Chris Jones fault. The only firings this week that were appropriate should have been the Special Teams coordinator and defensive coordinator. Did Chris Jones tell that idiot Boris Bede to kick the ball out of bounds with 7 seconds left did Chris Jones tell the safety to vacate the middle of the field and give up a 30 yard pass to Dru Brown to set up Lucas Ward's field goal. How come the Red Black's did not fire Bob Dyce last season you know why because they were intelligent enough to get different players who want to win and not make a knee jerk reaction Now look a year later Ottawa is actually a winning team because they are smart enough to nor blame the coach they fixed the problem by getting different players to fit the sceme look at the results case closed. By the way Bob Dyce was not fired after blowing a 17 point lead @ BC last year in the 4th quarter. Instead they let him get the ship right and now the dividends are paying off. Stop firing coaches unless you ate getting blown out and embarrassed each week than that's different. Instead if you lose close games you get rid of the PLAYERS.
Elks name sucks! Like Trudeau, this destroys history tradition and culture!! All so that nobody is offended… the Inuit were ok with Eskimos. This is about grocery stores worrying about losing business from old ladies that don’t watch football!
Hope this woke team goes bankrupt. Where are all the sponsors and losers that said they would support them. They need to fire everybody then change the name back.

At least 2 of the close losses were directly fault of poor coaching. Jones loved undisciplined aggression.
Their team play was marked by poor player discipline...and from the beginning of Jones' regime. We saw it again in his last game.
