The 15 Year Project? JHH A-7 Corsair II Takes to the Skies!

- As has been said, "a scale model is never finished, you just stop working on it." And while I've been flying this Jet Hangar A-7 Corsair II for 15+, years, I technically stopped working on it in 2019 after getting the model ready for the US Scale Masters Championships. While EDF powered now, it started out turbine powered and has shown its versatility through the years with different powerplants. I has also had numerous lives since it's maiden flight which in some cases required serious repairs. Through it all, this is still one of my favorite models to fly though I don't get to fly it as often as I'd like to. It's a little quirky in the air based on its configuration, but looks so darn cool in flight!

Very cool! My dad was the maintenance officer for VA-72 during desert storm. I grew up around these aircraft. I really wish Freewing would make one. I need an A-7
Outstanding Chris!
I can see why you love this so much, the scale details is fantastic Chris, certainly a keeper for life. 🫡
Still don't understand why there aren't more larger A-7's out there. Shame what happened to the JHH kit availability too.
I’m a bit surprised too. They are a bit quirky to fly, but still super fun
Amazing models. would imagine flight time is vastly different from turbine to edf.
Have always loved the A 7, and yours is a beautiful example. As an aside, when Brian Schul returned to flight status he flew the Corsair, and spoke fondly about the bird. As you probably know, Major Shul eventually piloted the SR 71. Thanks for the video!
Watch the Cuban missile thriller Thirteen Days .. great A7 scene.. even if it was a mix of the genuine article and CGI.. Love the A7 too.. hoping somebody will make a A7 with fully retractable gear, wing lift .. are you kidding.... waiting.. it would sell out in a day !!!
As usual, first rate AWESOME!🇺🇸👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✅✅✅✅✅🫵🏼
HA!! I actually used to FLY THOSE!! What a GREAT looking model!!!
Very cool, thank you so much for watching and thank you for serving!!
Gorgeous. I was flying H3 Seakings in HS-14 deployed in USS RANGER during Desert Storm. Our Airwing had no A7s! Dang it. I did end up flying out to AMERICA, MIDWAY, and some others I don't recall, but I sure did wish that we'd had the SLUF aboard our Airwing.
Incredible model - fantastic detail and craftsmanship as always. Looks great in the air!!
Many thanks!
Wow, I was in VA-27, '80 -'83. this looks good, I think the first I have seen. Our sister squadron, VA - 97 was the first to paint the grey scheme. Well done.
Thank you!
Always loved that bird
Just the sound is amazing
The jetfan90 is a great fan and the installation in this one is super clean.
Chris...holy cow, there's a lot of beefsteak in this one!!! The detail is amazing!! Beautiful!!
AirHammer out...
Thanks man!
Great A7 Chris. Super flying 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
Gorgeous and fabulous flying!
Thank you!
Beautiful A-7.
Thank you!
Wow - I served in VA-72 as a jet engine mechanic from 1987-1991.
Wow, very cool! Thank you for your service
Beautiful model of a great airplane! Very well executed and flies so nicely. Congrats!
Thank you!
I still have a 1 sheet advert for that JHH from like 1990-1? Always thought about that jet...esp after electric fans came about. My buddy commented "it's too small, and that plane is ugly."
Well, he has a 1/6 scale turbine F-16 that's been "almost finished" for over six years.😏
Great video Chris. Nice to see one of your favourite planes in the air . Looks like a keeper 😂. Seriously looks great in the air , compliments on the scale flying . The attention to detail as always top notch.
Thank you!
Awesome that you keep making videos of this model! It’s a pleasure to watch.
Its a shame these are so hard to come by now. Im glad you have managed to hang on to her and keep it fly for so long! Seeing you win Scale masters with it was amazing! Great video my friend.
Thank you for sharing this masterpiece
Thanks for watching!
What a beautiful model.
That is a beautiful A-7!!
Thank you!
I always enjoy watching your A7 fly! Thanks for posting this!!!
We painted camels on our VLS launcher in Desert Storm after confirmed hits. :) Great looking A7!!
Beautiful work.
Thank you very much!
Chris. That is so cool; one of my favourite jets -that's what the SLUF is.
Amazing model! The A-7 is one of my favorites, partly because it shares lineage with probably my all time favorite fighter jet The Crusader. I’ve always liked the “big maw” on the front and the “stout” nature of the aircraft in general, it just looks like it means business. Kinda like a tough street fighter who’s father was a world champion heavyweight in the ring. I hope to have an A-7 in my own modest fleet someday. Keep up the incredible work! Cheers!
I burst out laughing turbin powered 😅 I visualised all these head dressings flying around 😂
🤦♂️
Chris, so cool man. This is really a beautiful scale model you have. By the way, you acquired that light/latch idea from your Father... LOL. Love to see you come down to BHAMRC- "Bigfoot" event. Lots of fun and really fine folks to meet. 🙂
I’m hoping I can make it
Amazing plane Chris.. Thanks for sharing..
Thanks for watching!
Another beauty and favorite of mine. Got a thing for the Grouper mouth and Jimmy Durante nose. 😁
That flies great and groves along nicely. Always fancied doing a A7, still on my bucket list. 👍
Thanks! A-7s can be a little quirky to fly, but are such cool looking airplanes in flight.
I'd love to be able to fly my own Corsair!
nice one of my favorite warbirds
Enjoyed the vid. Had one back in the day. Lost it flying off the lake bed at Edwards. Think that funky elevator set up broke. It had a 7.5 k&b with the hop up kit in it.
Yours is amazing, the scale detail is some of your best work.
Thank you! Such a quirky bird, but so fun
Nice job G man 👍
😮😮😮😮 Major jelly!
Greetings from San Diego! She’s so ugly she’s beautiful. As expected, exquisitely detailed. Keep ‘em coming Chris.
what an awesome model! Great to see it in the air again
Thank you!
Wow the attention to detail is mind numbing awesome well done 👍 Ace
Thank you!
Very Nice Flight and Landing. The A7 is very cool too.
Thanks a lot!
Beautiful job Chris!!! 🎉
Thank you! Cheers!
parabens por mais esta obra de arte .espero tambem ver o hustler novamente. obrigado pelo video. Saudaçoes
Thank you!
Greàt lil bomb gruck is the A7. You version is just pure art. 😊 She flys and tracks likes on rails. Carry on 😅
I think that in 2006 there hadn't been enough EDF. The A-7 is a lot smaller than the Hustler, but I liked the original a lot back then. The older you get, the more you like older planes. I just downloaded the DO-X in MSFS. Unfortunately, there is no Hustler there (yet?).
Great model! Has always been my favorite fighter ever since I saw the Enterprise loaded with them on deck , circa 1962 Cuba.
You are confusing the F-8 with A-7. A-7s first flight was in 1965 and service enter was 1967. There were no A-7 in 1962 Cuban crises.
I t could have been in Norfolk Va in 1965 or 66. I was a Navy brat...@@Ace-Av8er
Beautiful Chris, yeah down here at Spring Valley, ca. you have a 50/50 chance not to hit the runoff gravel with the jets. Keeps you on your toes !
I bet it does, haha!
Thanks!
Thank you!!
We had 4 weapon stations, with the two inner removed, and so no fuel tanks, better flight characteristics I guess. So if you want to take off the two inner pylons, it is accurate for some squadrons.
Yeah, I noticed that in pictures. Pretty interesting
Coolest jet😊
Awesome thanks for sharing this info with me 🎉❤
My first job out of college was at LTV during Desert Storm and I used to watch these bad boys land at Dallas Naval Air Station for avionics upgrades. Not the best-looking plane by any stretch of the imagination (the only decent looking plane Vought ever made was the original Corsair IMO) but it definitely got the job done. Thanks for bringing back such good memories and was wondering if you have or have thought about doing an F7U Cutlass.
Thanks so much for watching! 😊 The f7u is a cool bird and very unique. They can be challenging as models as they have flat spin problems if the cg isn’t right. Just like the full size 😆
@@Thercgeek Sounds like an opportunity to engineer a modern-day solution to a problem that I don't believe was fully understood. It would be so cool to see a Cutlass take to the akies again.
very nice !!! all the best...👍
As usual Chris..............homerun!
Awesome plane👌
Thank you!
Beautiful model and excellent video. Go Vought!
Thank you kindly!
Damn, so jealous! I have always wanted an A7.
I grew up on some naval bases and would see them fly frequently over my house. Such a classic, amazing, beautiful and ugly at the same time. I really want one!!!
Beautiful and ugly at the same time is right, haha
corsair 2 looks good
Toward the end of its life, I worked on the software in the A7. I believe it is still the only jet that can carry its weight in ordinance,
Wow, very cool! I believe you’re correct regarding its ordnance capacity.
lol i remember being a kid walking down to jet hanger hobbies and buying parts for my cox .051 and other crap
Some of my favorite childhood memories are from spending time in the back of my dads shop (jhh).
Great flight and looking plane. I bet a stock out of the box B1 or B2 didn't win best warbird. That only happens at California events.
What’s the setup esc / motor and also does it come with those landing gear ?
can you fly RC vought F8U crusader
The F8 would fly very much the same as the A-7. I’d love to build one some day with the variable incidence wing. Would be really cool
Chris , looks as you were at the field in Southern Indiana Grate site to fly, on a aircraft to replace the B-58 how about an F-8 .. your thoughts ...
I’d love to build an F8 with a variable incidence wing at some point. Super cool airplane and would fly similarly to this a7
Nice field. Where is this?
This is at the rosewood flyers field in Indiana. Super nice field!
was that plane made in the middle East? Several times you mentioned it was flown with Turbans.??
Is that a joke?
Does JHH still make this kit??
Unfortunately this is the one kit my folks no longer make. It’s kind of a long story.
I still have one in Edward test flight colors NIB with Wren 44 NIB as well. I want to repaint it tought, possibly hi viz Navy colors. Any idea ? Should I strip the old paint ?
Cool! I’d just sand the paint down a bit and primer/paint over that. No need to strip it down.
Are you aware, that the left wheel is cracked? 03:35
I am, yeah. It’s just a 3d printed wheel cover. When the brakes are applied, they receive pressure so reprinting will result in those being cracked too, haha
I want some Vietnamese BBQ.
Shame that your`re not selling them anymore 😪
Yeah, that’s a long story… 😕
What happend ? @@Thercgeek
Just so fond of this era of warplanes ..We grew up next to the Willow Grove Naval Air Station, Horsham, Pennsylvania .. of course we saw everything that came thru..including the A7, F4, A4 beautiful A4 by the way. We had one of the largest East Coast Air Shows every year with the distinction of wrecking a F-117 during an Air Show weekend. backing it's wing into the hanger. .. I was a police officer here, so we got base privileges .. saw the F-117 up close , guarded by beret wearing M-16 carrying soldiers. Very impressive .. along w/ everything else UP CLOSE SO COOL ..We also have outdoor "Air Museum" which included the Luftwaffes Messerschmitt ME 262 "Swallow' two-seat trainer.. which the stinking jerkweed Marine base in Florida STOLE from us.. German Aardo AR 196 IIRC Sea Plane..snt back to Germany Boooooo.. these planes were outside for everyone to see.. The ME 262 was 'restored' which was a disaster IMO as they changed the org camoflouge scheme ..it was so valuable, we built an Air Museum around it: Delaware Valley Air Museum.. So I'm a huge fan. especially the old prop and jets.. This Corsair is something else.. was wondering when or if we would ever see it.. Next to The Phantom which was developed next township over at the Warminster Naval Air Warfare Center .. the Intruder it's my favorite.. I've watched the A7 scene in "Thirteen Days " over and over ...the WGNAS is a now present day a drone base ..anotehr boooooo. THANK YOU so much for taking your baby out ... especially after the Hustler ..think everybody felt that crash.. thanks for the great content, really enjoy it..
Thank you!
