    There's very few and I can count them on a hand that actors have played to the point that when I was watching the movie I felt like the actor was actually the person they are portraying. Val playing doc and Kurt playing Wyatt are two of them

    Craziest part is that Tombstone is 60-75% historically accurate. Wyatt's brothers were attacked by Ike Clanton and the Cowboys in Tombstone: one crippled (Virgil) and one killed (Morgan). Wyatt took his family to the train station to send them away to safety. Frank Stillwell showed up at the train station and Wyatt killed him. Wyatt then followed it up by going on his Vendetta Ride. His Vendetta Ride was financed by Wells Fargo because the Cowboys kept robbing their stage coaches.

    The cutting of Ikes face is way more significant than people realize. A "Mexican tattoo" was a variation of the "mark of a coward". In ikes day to day every man that saw him knew at least one man knew him to be a coward. In the crowd he ran in it was a huge deal because the only way its done is when someone is on their knees begging.

    The sound design on the spur cut is so visceral. it makes it so effective. I also think it's really interesting how Wyatt uses disrespect and intimidation on his enemies, like with Johnny Tyler and here with Ike.

    Greatest western ever.. my favorite movie in general of all time as well, so much in it! Doc respected one man and you see why in this scene, Wyatt could turn it off but when it was on he was the best. I don’t think I’ve ever got the call back to Wyatt holding up the one finger to the brother saying he was the one, I always took it as Wyatt saying “one down” but that’s a good call back!

    everyone always praises Val Kilmer's Portrayal of Doc Holiday (and rightfully so) but the whole cast was amazing especially Kurt Russel as Wyatt Earp he could go from Family Man to Psycho at the drop of a hat and it's believable.

    • @thomasmullaney4306
      @thomasmullaney4306 Місяць тому

      In the movie, Sam Eliot (Virgil) says "Ma always doted on the frowner." Wyatt was not an easy man to get to know nor was he an affable man. The death of his first wife and unborn child from typhoid fever took all the joy out of his life. Somewhere between melancholy and morose on his best days. However, family was everything to him and when Morgan got killed, that pushed him into a psychotic rage that even some of his friends were afraid. That's the reason Doc really was his only true friend, Doc understood what drove Wyatt to do what he did.

    Two movies that were released in the same era (The Untouchables (1987) and Tombstone (1993)) portray the dark transformation of a white hat protagonist to a black hat avenger. Both characters share certain commonalities. Ness and Earp lose someone close to them. Wyatt watches his brother, Morgan, bleed out. Ness loses his mentor, Jim Malone (Sean Connery). Both face the daunting challenge of bringing down a ruthless criminal organization--Al Capone's mob and The Cowboys. Both lose a close associate--McMasters and Charles Martin Smith's character. The pressure of the situations leads both men to set aside their normal white hat ways. Ness adopts a "by any means necessary" outlook and Wyatt goes on a search and destroy mission. The great difference is the perspective actor's ability to convey the change. Costner plays Ness as a man possessed by righteous wrath with little emotion. Honestly, it weakens the film. Russell, on the other hand, lives out the vengeful reaper with a zeal that borders, and may slip into, on crazy. The shot in the scene under review at the end where he tells Ike that "Hell is coming" shows Russell with a glint in his eyes that glitters with pure malice. Earp is the more believable character and that is why his performance is better than Costner's.

Sadly, the younger gens can't quite understand this because of the easy lifestyle provided for this short period of time.
