Hey, I’m 16 years old and i’m already doing my research on the trade routes. I go to trade school for plumbing but in that class we learn how to use excavators and skidstears and micro cranes. I really believe i caught the trade route just in time because not enough kids are hearing about this stuff! My top three trades that i’m considering when i graduate are plumbing, welding, and of course HEO. Thanks!
It can be very difficult. I have 20 years driving truck/heavy wrecker and digging graves with JD and Case backhoes. I tried a lot of places but they all wanted to start you as a laborer. I understand this for the most part but with 20 years handling large trucks and wreckers as well as backhoe it's kind of hard starting as a laborer again. I just kept looking and eventually got in with a scrap yard running the front loaders and then the material handler cranes. I guess you just keep looking till you find that niche.
Been trying for 15 years. Have a CDL with end dump experience; ran farm equipment; everywhere I apply to find somewhere in, ...nope. I could probably pound stakes for 10 years and not get in.
a clip board and hard hat is prolly all u need to get on site then make your way to the heavy machinery to acquire first person exp. extra sneak xp lvl up
I’m in the UK and trying to move into this from my HR career. I’ve been told that getting qualified to operate heavy plant is “easy”, but I’d still struggle to find a job because I don’t have any groundworker experience apparently. I’m not sure how true this is but I guess it makes sense..
I’m going to a tech school to be a heavy equipment operator but someone I know says it’s a hard career to initially get into because most companies don’t want to hire a greenhorn. What’s your experience with this?
Bro keep going it’s a great certification. Yes they want you to operate so it’s all about how confident you are about using your new HEO Certification. The more seat time the better you get. I’m new myself but I’m getting my confidence up. You’ve been class trained so experience will make you a valued operator. Good Luck
Best way to get into a machine is starting from a laborer and earning it, or as truck driver loading yourself. spending time on the ground working with a machine provides invaluable knowledge when you go to jump in the seat. If you're green and feel confident with the controls and how the machine works then the best jobs are bulking or loading out trucks or working in some kind of pit or mine. After that civil construction or logging are good, more advanced machine careers that require a lot of skill and knowledge to be good at but they're very rewarding. Always talk to the older experienced guys and ask for advice too, takes years to become a good operator and not everyone is cut out for it, in my experience 90% of the people i've worked with who spent thousands on a school or course end up as rock truck drivers.
@@HeavyMetalLearning ya i am currently a union laborer but i run all the equipment on on prevailing jobs but every time i am almost to get a local 15 permit something happens and they dont give it to me

Heavy equipment operator certification with safety tickets and truck license may help you pass the threshold
