      100% correct. If you don't have native speakers in your area, try finding people on to video chat with. Easy to find friends if you have a hobby like video games.
      Don't use AI to correct your pronunciation. It's more about muscle control so you need someone to actually look at your mouth to say R and L correctly.

      If you're diligently studying Spanish for three years straight and can't hold a decent conversation while in Mexico, then it kinda sounds like it's the students or teachers fault at that point.

    • @Silver_Warden
      @Silver_Warden 3 роки тому +52

      @@grimmsby3011 One of the issues I've witnessed (and least here in Europe) is that the language taught in schools and universities tends to be the most distilled, filtered out and standardized form. You know, the type of language you'd generally hear being used on TV or in dubbed movies: 100% correct, clean and clear.
      But very few people actually speak like that in real life. I studied Spanish for 4 years in university, I could read without issues, comprehend complex ideas and hold a conversation with other people in my university.
      And then I went to Barcelona. Confident in my abilities, I started a conversation with a bunch of locals. They were really impressed, and even commented on the fact that I sounded "like a TV host". But then they started talking more, and I realized that *they* could understand everything I was saying, but I could only catch like half of their speech.
      Because A: they were speaking much faster than I anticipated, B: they weren't trying to pronounce everything clearly (as I've been taught), C: they used obscure local terms and idioms I wasn't familiar with, and D: some of them also had pieces of Catalan in there.
      And I felt like a complete fool XD
      Sometimes the only way to actually learn how to speak a language is to practice it with the locals, at least occasionally. Even better if you can live somewhere where they speak the language - but that's not that easy, obviously.

      You americans shouldn't feel bad about only speaking 1 language.
      To us foreigners its easy to learn english because EVERYTHING is in english...it was never hard work, but entertainment.
      Movies, TV shows, games, etc, etc....
      I'm from South America, Portuguese is my mother language, speak a German dialect called Hunsruck because of my heritage, speak spanish cuz i live near Uruguay and Argentina, and know english because you know...entertainment.

Don't get me wrong we're taught a new language in school (maybe not well.. But still). I just couldn't speak one sentence in French and I took it for 4 years lmao. But I'm sure if I found myself traveling to Quebec (not too far from my state of NY) I'd use it more.
      Lots of countries in Europe are very close together and very different in terms of culture and languages. Some states in America are as big as countries. It's neat to see all the different accents within the US tho.
