People forgot that Eren is just 19 years old. He just wanted to be with Mikasa. He wanted to be with his friends. When he broke down, it struck me so hard
Yeah, '"He is just a teenager." Like the guy didnt killed 2 grown ass men at the age of 9.
@@evilsoul9985uh you do know they killed Mikasa’s parents and kidnapped her, tried to sell her off and tried to kill eren too right?
even armin was calling him pathetic in this scene they did my boy eren dirty
@@handleofthehabibi bro eren is one of the last people that express their feeling for girl they like
@@kadegamer5831 yeah thats why im saying they did eren dirty like he would never do this
The hardest part about Eren is that he didnt have time to love the way he really wished he could. He was so young. Its quite sad.
it’s really sad, rip the boy who fought for freedom 🕊️
When he said "I've tried over and over...but all the results are disappointing", does this mean that he did try to avoid this but the outcome was even worse than him choosing this path? What if when he kissed Historia's hands he saw all of his attempts fail except this one....the one where he knew he would end up killing Sasha and Hange and ultimately end up being killed by the love of his life and not be able to live a long life with them.....this is truly heartbreaking either way.
What I think is that he would test the future memories prior to the rumbling like when he was initially going to leave ramzi with those guys in the alley way but he was compelled to save him in the end, showing how he had no free will in the end which was what was disappointing to him. I'm sure he wanted to avoid this outcome but he tested it so many times prior that he gave up and followed the future that the attack titan showed him
I'm sure he meant just that. Time in the Paths moves different than the real world. Notice how Eren and Zeke went through Eren's entire memory, yet the outside world didn't even pass 5 seconds.
My guess is that - during the time of him being the Founder, he went through countless different scenarios. Ones that wouldn't include killing 80% AND that would insure the island and/or more importantly his friends would live a long life without war. Unfortunately, if they did gain freedom it would at the cost of more than 80% of humanity, or more. Anything lower wouldve meant the destruction of Paradis. Also, perhaps, changing anything in the past is very complex. Changinh any little thing could result in someone else behaving differently when it mattered at any given moment.
It's as Zeke said. He saw the future when he kissed Historia's hand, but not everything. He didn't know Sasha would die and didn't forsee Hange sacrificing herself. By the time he became founder, perhaps, it had already been too late to change her fate.
It was only when he became the Founder did he truly run all the tests. But by then, there wasn't much left he could do. Except ensure that specific moments from the past lead to this very outcome. Like his mom dying and his dad killing the royal family. Things that he could directly effect because he could control the titans and the memories of his past attack titan users.
@@user-sq9mm8kf1lsorry, I respect your opinion but I humbly disagree. I don’t think it was he tried different scenarios, I think he meant he was trying to change/go onto another path different from what the future told him, but everything that continued to happen before his eyes still happened, just like the homeless boy (I forgot his name) that got beat up. The attack titans powers aren’t multiple futures. It is just memories from one (the same) timeline to eren.
Btw: something off topic:
if you don’t like this paradox, please watch the next part, and rewatch the rest of the series, especially s3. When he says this is always the sight he wanted to see, there are many layers of depth into that piece of dialogue but it still holds true. Wether titans or an entire humanity against one race, he would keep going against: vowing to destroy anything that would take freedom away from him (and his loved ones). He is still human though, and this thought of the rumbling terrified him with the horror of all the death and brutality in it. You can see this all throughout s4, but if you really need someone to point it out he kept self doubting himself, apologies to the homeless boy (his names ramzi right..? Or no), literally this scene where he says he tried to go against the future he saw, crying during the rumbling etc, that’s why the paradox (memories of the future) scared him, but that is still what he wanted and it’s almost poetic how a paradox can’t be stopped, like it’s destined as one’s true motives (eren’s) cannot be stopped as those are his true motives, he will keep moving forward no matter what. Don’t think of it like eren was being manipulated by the paradox. Yes he was scared and under influence by it, but nonetheless still his motive. That’s why the line in the scene that’s supposed to take place right after the one shown in the video that isn’t where eren goes “I am just an idiot that got power” hits so much harder, because that was his dream and his sense of freedom.
Also, ik in the actual scene he says that in response to him thinking it protected his friends but his motives actually making his friends (“hange, Sasha, and lethal encounters with flock”) die. You might think he’s calling himself an idiot solely based off of him feeling guilty for hurting his friends, but it’s more of him addressing the uncaring pain he caused throughout the entire rumbling to satisfy his motives/sense of freedom, including humanity’s wipeout.
It was fun typing this out, I’m glad to read different opinions, even against mine, please read without skipping or ignoring any points though, love to debate and chat tho. happy New Years! Sorry Abt the second part that’s just added if anyone feels underwhelmed by the ending, mainly eren’s character relating to the paradox, it’s just sad seeing that others did not have the same amazing experience I had and I wanted to share my pov to maybe help that even if a little.
@@albatross5_ 100% agree. Eren doesn't have power to create visions of diffrent realities, he just tried to stop things that he saw in his future memories from happening but no matter how he tried, he couldnt. So he choose to follow his destiny and at least save his friends.
“The results are disappointing” meaning that he was unable to change outcomes because they went against his wishes. For example, no matter how many times Ramzi would get beat up in the alley, he couldn’t allow himself to look past it. He had to save Ramzi from those bullies everytime.
IMO Much better than the manga
Heavy agree, felt more stale in the manga but animated give it way more emotion
@@grandmasterjayd1184 they also changed the dialogue expanded and added some parts and removed others. In the manga it all felt very passive and confused, here it's a clear depiction of what Eren has been trough.
It's worse.
@@Ackerfan33 how so?
i agree this scene is better than the manga... but the rumbling in manga is way better than anime the rumbling in manga is way more dark and gore
It’s like everyone forgot when Eren grabbed Hanji in the cell and desperately pleaded for her to give him any other possible option or solution.
He never wanted this, but he just couldn’t keep fighting fate anymore.
I think Sasha’s death was the final push he needed to go over the edge. He probably saw Sasha’s death countless times in his visions, and decided that he needs to take any actions necessary to prevent it. When it happened, he realized that he can’t stop anything that’s coming next, no matter how much he tries to alter the future.
but there were other options, he just didnt like them.
@dai-belizariusz3087 The way I understand this future sight, he can see the results of his actions, but can't actually see the actions that lead up to these results. Think of it like this: he knew about the warhammer, yet he didn't know how it worked. If he can see the future, why did it take him halfway through the battle to learn about the foot trick and towards the end for him to realize he needs the jaw titan to actually get to Lara?
@@dai-belizariusz3087the option that would make everything worse? Nah
@@smelllikeyourmomspirit7394literally what can be wrose than wiping out 80 percent of humanity
So sad, he really had no other choice and genuinely tried to find one
Well, what he saw in the future was all coming true, so he set his mind to *making* it come true. As he said, he wanted to level everything. He could’ve not taken certain actions, but he was a slave to the “freedom” he saw.
@@eazybaby5094 the reason he thinks like that is because he is was set by the future him in the first place even before he was born. How can you do something about it when it was all planned even before it was started? We can't control something we can't and especially when someone is pulling the strings from behind
@@eggxecution actually you saw a version of if he didn’t execute his genocide, the vision with Mikasa. His destiny was set, but *HE* was also *set* on his destiny. By his own words.
This is what I didn’t fully understand. Why did Eren truly feel that he didn’t have a choice?? What happened to all of his resentment and “freedom-driven” character?
Or his mother’s death? (Revealed to be his fault too!)
Super confusing 😵💫
@@johnnytsu9011I think it's because when faced with the exact same situation, *in that moment,* Eren will always want to choose the same decision as he forsees. The future isn't really set in stone, rather it aligns itself to Eren's desires. It is unchangeable because Eren is who he is - he cannot see any other option *that will achieve his desires* besides what he has already chosen to do
"I did it for me."
Ishiyama low key referencing breaking bad, one of his favorite show.
Exactly I swear to god I see people trying to defend Eren and say he’s a hero but he is most definitely not. He wanted this sight and he wanted to kill everybody to get to that sight. Eren is a monster who is indeed going to hell.
@@Silentwraith365who isn't a monster in this show, besides Sasha?... I think the point of the series is that war makes humanity make rash and drastic decisions to protect themselves, and as long as humanity exists war will too. Those two facts wind themselves into a neverending cycle. Even in the end Marleyans and Internment Zone Eldians went from being distrustful enemies, to hopeful comrades, all back to distrustful enemies in the span of a few hours and a single incident. Fear of death had those soldiers ready to off the same people they just had come to the conclusion were "misunderstood" because they SAW them transform into titans before their eyes. And they didn't even attack them. Fear. Eren's outcome, like it or not, staved off war in Paradise for hundreds of years! As far as his concern for the safety of his friends, and the Island I don't think they could've gotten a better outcome. The "world" would've been better off if he did nothing... One way or another seems like most of all Eldians would've died in this alternative future. There was really no happy ending for everyone waiting at the end of this conflict. All "perspective"... It's 'good' because it's good for ME. You're a "good person" because you've done something for ME...
@@QuiselottYeah most of the characters in the show are bad people but EVEN THEY know that a world-wide genocide is beyond belief, at least the ones who actually know what the outside world is. The Yeagerists were brainwashed and didn’t have enough knowledge to know better. Eren did. And he chose to do the most selfish thing that anybody in the entire show ever did. Eren is the main villain of attack on titan and one of the most despicable villains in media.

for so many years I've been despise and hate the ending of manga up until now I've come to appreciate the way the story ends surprisingly. Its very realistic how war eventually starts over again. Its neither good or bad ending but morely very realistic one. I never really accepted this ending once I've read in the manga but watching the anime, im glad they improve on eren and armin last conversation as well as other things because that really made the ending feels organic and acceptable even though all that genocide and massacre are meaningless in the end, having eren and some people knows that really shows how depressing and wide the world is but are written beautifully and impactful. Maybe the manga felt more rushed but the anime just feels right. But honestly im actually satisfied. Well done Mappa and isayama. Its been a great journey
Took 2 edits of the ending to convey what the author wanted to say and make the fans happy.
Well it was not meaningless, people in Paradis, and most importantly, Eren's close ones went in history as heroes and they got to live a peaceful life. Paradis went through probably centuries of propserity before it being bombed, but that justs humanity history anywaym

If u guys loved this type of story with time travels, war commentaries and also a reflection on being stuck to destiny and trying to save humanity from itself, i truly recomend reading and watching dune. It does not get deep as AOT before the third book tho, and its really long, but if u are willing to try, it has really good points to make. I love Isayama for portraing things the way he did, such a masterful storytelling. Oh, claymore is also good if u guys like more of an anime approach. The comments section is a perfect example of the ending, humans are quite irrational sometimes. You all helped break society (lusting, being greedy, prideful, and being mentally ill) yet y’all would judge a character that’s so relatable it hurts. He wanted to protect his island from the rest of the evil world who wanted them dead and he succeeded…but the ending is bad? Reality is bad ok? Earth in Real Life is horrendous, you’re all empty idiots

He killed at least 80% of humanity from the outside world. Leaving 20% of humanity on the outside to live including the Eldian’s.
I'm gonna be honest
This is one of the most polarizing endings I've ever seen and I'm stuck in the middle to how I feel about it
There are some genuine good stuff about it that make 100% sense and I feel like the small changes that Isayama made in the anime saved lots of aspects (Armin thanking Eren for causing the Rumbling like he did in the manga would've caused major damage)
However, at the same time, there are some genuine bad stuff in this ending and I think that the biggest one is having Eren know that he was going to be stopped by the Alliance. The ending would've been much better if he never knew that
Ya time travel to me is still weird asf and doesnt make sense but when he talks about all still leading to his future memories and hes a slave to freedom… with the ost is fucking chills
@@TheYoungMuTe Tbh, time travel was done perfectly up until this episode
It's a concept that shouldn't have been touched after Eren manipulated Grisha and allowed Dina to kill his own mother
I don't understand how that's the issue? Him knowing that he was going to meet his end is what makes it perfect.
Personally him knowing it would end like this seems more appropriate. No one died in the Battle of Heaven and Earth. Eren truely cared about his friends as much as he tried not to show it. He could of easily impeded them by taking away their titan powers.
This was probably the only outcome that lead to the destruction of the titans entirely, while letting those on Paradis live freely.
He didnt know he was going to be stopped until he started the rumbling itself.
2:08 this part always just gives me chills. Armin is, for the most part, composed and has his feelings in check, but he was genuinely disturbed and distraught. Marina Inoue is truly a gift to the world. I believe that AoT is the one anime that has the absolute best VAs, that and JJBA.
Probably Eren at some point had the same thinking as Armin about understanding each other but he didnt have any other choise, I mean Marley literally declare war to exterminate them when he started to act, he was still hoping he didnt have to do it imo, but as he says, he turned out to be a slave of freedom and couldnt change what happened
Eren was true. He wants to kill everyone for his happiness. That has been his dream since he was a child, he even had been living as a happy kid. He was a maniac who just want to live in a world without anyone. Also the fate had showed him that only slaughtering 80% of the world population would allow the Eldians to living in peace, but only in a few following years (maybe 70 - 80 years), at least enough for Eren's friends to having a happy life. But the war between Eldians and the rest of the world is inevitable, and is just the matter of time. The Eldians eventually almost ended up in extinction like in the last scene of the episode. Eren was selfish, ignorant though, at least he even admitted that the Founding Titan power was a proper tool for an idiot like him to destroying every threat to his friends' lives and to his own freedom. In other way, it is true that he just a slave of free will, who will literally do everything just to satisfied his odd "freedom". And the result was the death of Hange, Floch,Yeagerists, Sasha - many of his comrades, also the majority of the humanity's blood. For me this was the best part of whole entire series, could even be the best anime scene in the entire Anime history, because it shown that even if you were the main character and you did something wrong, you just have to admit it by your words and ready to paid for it in hell, and that's make Attack On Titan such a mature shounen, unlike many other childish and retarded anime series. AOT was the best anime ever, i would rate 9.8/10 for whole series and 9.6/10 for this episode on imdb for damn sure.
He had to the ability to travel through time and space and you want to say that he couldn’t do anything. I don’t say it’s a bad ending but it’s lazy with its Plotholes.
@@te867 Yes. Even with the ability to go back in time he coudlnt do anything. Go watch Re-Zero and anime relateable to this and u will understand.
@@XerxesJr44 Like Steins Gate
I agree
Eren had other options. It’s just Isayama turned him into a freedom seeking idiot devoid of nuance in the end. That’s all. You typed a bunch of hoohah
So like Dr. Strange Eren saw all the scenarios and the best option was to kill 80% of humanity so his friends can live and the Paradis population can live as long as possible?
I'm guessing that all of the other future that Eren saw was Marley attacking Paradis and wiping them out.
And paradise people killing each other
He wasnt trying to kill 80%. He was trying to kill EVERYONE else beyond the walls. His friends just get to stop him when he gets to 80%. Paradis gets blown up and destroyed years later; because he didn’t complete the rumbling. His friends stopped him just for his mass genocide to be in vain at least 80 years later. Just long enough for his friends to live out a peaceful existence. I don’t think they should’ve stopped him; because everyone on Paradis was going to pretty much die given that the entire world was rallying up to kill them when leaders of the world went to Marley. Tybur’s speech was made to declare war on Paradis…who would’ve been unsuspecting had Eren not been over there spying on them, and pretending to ally with Zeke.
I believe Eren saw 1 future if he didnt do the Rumbling unlike Dr. Strange who saw many futures with only one solution. And no matter how much he wanted to change it, everything played out how he saw it including the death of his friends. So, he did the best that he could.
I don't care what everyone says but for me this scene really hit hard💔 it broke me😢😢 Eren was not a super villain or some psycho with intention of mass murder he just wanted to protect his loved ones he got no other choice and in this scene he finally broke down in front of armin his brother his friend and cried because He didn't wanna die😢😢😢😭

Rip 😭😭😭
3:01 Confirmation that Eren is stuck in a timeloop and that there are multiple timelines in AOT. So basically Eren repeat this cycle over and over because of Ymir and Mikasa
I LEGIT THOUGHT EREN AND ARMIN WOULD KISS 💀
The only reason war will continue after the rumbling is because Eren was stopped before he could complete his mission. The rumbling was really the only way to start over, with Eldias people repopulating the world with a better understanding of why hate does not win. with no titans around anymore, Eldians would have a real chance to restart the world with people who are not going to go looking to destroy them and long lasting peace. This chance was destroyed by the scouts stopping Eren, and what leads to them many years later getting bombed by an enemy. they should have allowed the rumbling to take place, for a chance at a real restart. the people of the world were NEVER going to stop trying to kill them, and that is why Eren regardless of what he wanted, was correct to begin the rumbling.

Chronologically when did this conversation take place? How was eren able to find armin during the rumbling Alone? Or is it through the path. Or am I looking to much into this and is the blood sea just visually pleasing like in Evangelion.
The conversation was through the paths while they were sailing to the port to prep the plane. The scene where Armin sits with Annie and tells her he likes her is right after this conversation, but Eren removed it from Armins memory until after they killed him. I think the blood sea is meant to be viewed however you want but I personally think it's literal. Either way it totally came out of nowhere for me because having read the Manga, there obviously wasn't any color so I never thought of it changing to blood/remains and it absolutely shows off the misery and carnage of the scene
All these people hating this scene seem to have forgotten, what makes AOT so different from other anime. The characters are human, which means they are not flawless. Eren has endured more than any other person whilst only 19 years of age and people hate him for not behaving like a chad? "Chad Eren" was a mask he put on to hide his deeper emotions. You can hate on the delivery all you want, but you cant tell me this is out of character. Eren has always been the same and we saw him cry before.
I think what eren say about wanting mikasa to dote him forever is a part of his trauma of losing his woman figure (his mom) and he dose not really like mikasa romanticly only think her as his second mother figure because it is confirm thateren only think mikasa as his mother figure said by the writer

2. Lifting off ymir's curse
3. Saving his friends giving them the real freedom and long live
4. Crushing the people who hated them
5. Wiping out every titan
6. Living remaining life with mikasa(atleast in paths).
"bcuz I'm an idiot" --
He doesn't say that he did the Rumbling because he was an idiot. He says the Rumbling was the only possible outcome because he's an idiot. Meaning he couldn't figure out or even think of a better solution because of his subconscious obsession with Freedom.
I think if there was a bit of more emotion with eren, the episode would of been better. And armin too
What exactly made the gang want to stop eren again?
❤️✝️God bless

English dub acted out
Armin: Oh.....My God..... EREN!.......BUT WHY!? 😭💔
Bro didnt know why he wanted to do the rumbling
fr dumb ass character xd
Sasha hange and Erwin died for nothing
@@springsbliss4094 half of the survey corps died for nothing
All eren wanted was some Japanese cheeks in the end
Can you guys even read?
@@ahmedfathelrahman5712 Yes we can read, we analyzed each chapter month by month for fucking years which is why it's so insulting that all of that potential was wasted on such an irrational ending.
Armin voice remind me of naruto
Guys do you know armin is older
bro that expression at 2:16
That's a Menace face right there.
The stupidest way to kill a character and end an Anime
How do you think it should have ended?Yes, I wouldn’t want Eren to lose, but all bad things come to an end.
@@willdieme there are multiple ways where it could end
1. The rumbling goes on and eren lives alone and lonely, being engulfed by his madness, is it really worth it after all? Is the price of freedom, everything?
2. Eren talks to Mikasa and convince her to kill him (yes just like lelouch) and where he confronts Armin, he will tell him that he did all of this for freedom, then he tells him as his last wishes is to be free.
There are multiple ways where this can end, and what Isayama presented is the worst one.
@@ra3y000 bruh the first one is already contradict about eren know memories in future
@@Thundeclap which will be a suitable oppertunity for him to break away from the memories and do one thing out of his own free will, something like destiny vs freedom
@@ra3y000 yes an what the cost when he alredy sees it,his loved ones dead, paradise people will still killing each other regardless is idelogy conflict,or natural value
Mary people died in the process, but war still occurred in Paradis, not anywhere else. Bruh! Should have been somewhere else, not Paradis!
Bad ending bad scene
I appreciate what the writer made in the start but he definitely couldn’t handle the popularity that came with it
Where arw they talking
This is what destroying a master piece and bad writing looks like
“I want her to be hung up on me for like 10 years at least” bruh I can’t this dialogue goofy as hell idc what you guys say
what soundtrack this ?
like why do you have to talk, let us just watch it....
Seems pretty idiotic of a plan. If you can go as far as to kill off 80% of humanity then might as well go 100%. Why leave the fate of the island to chance?
at the end floch was right...
Eren probably get chased by Floch in hell for eternity now.😂
Armins smirk said it all💀
Said what?
@@juniorartist7271 Nah you would be better off not knowing 💀💀💀
We all sane headed folks know what a load of bs escalated from chapter 138, so it's alright tell me what he meant... I know it wouldn't be worth taken seriously but still
Wny he sound like naruto
Dissapointing ending, everything was meaningless and pointless, only way to end the war was killing everything beyond paradis, war started again after some years (i get it the moral of the story is that humanity is never living in peace) but the anime for me went from the best anime to a shit show over the last seasons also the autor made eren pathetic and miserable at the very end just painful to watch.
Eren killing all of his friends woulda been grim. I wouldnt mind if it was isayamas vision but i still think this ending was good
Eren did nothing wrong
Lmao
This has to be fake 😭😭
Eren should have done 100% rumbling. Whats the point of stopping at 80%. Now whole world hates paradis and they don't even have titans to defend themselves
Even if 100% of the outside world was destroyed and Paradise Island was all that remained the end result would’ve been the same. Conflict is part of human nature. The remaining people would’ve fought and killed themselves like they always do just like Kiyomi Azumabito said they would.
If they did that, i think titans would still exist. Eren or Historia would be current rulers of the world. Eren didnt want to sacrifice his friends but they would all still be alive and resent eren. Factions including them would probably arise and id assume even more of his friends will die
Edgy kids think Eren is a chad, he is just a pathetic human. Armin is the one who suffered the more and he has always been more mature.
Eren is an idiot, yes, clown too!! Hes the Real Eren!! Hes back!!! Clown eren!!
Eren can go to hell.
And watch Mikasa get her cheeks clapped for eternity
I mean yeah the show says the same thing
i mean yeah he says it
With armin and probably mikasa
@@Krish_Choudhary. She's the biggest victim in this ending. She spent the rest of her life crying over an idiot. I genuinely feel bad for her.
One of the worst endings to a great show I’ve ever seen
Biggest Character Assassination in recent manga history 🗣️🗣️
Nah this anime is hot TRASH 😂😂😂😂 This ending bro 😂how 😂😂😂Neon Genesis Evangelion would NEVER 💀
Eren's behavior is exactly like Shinji's 😅😅😅
Just saying is curious cause on its time, NGE ending (the original episode not the end of evangelion) was hated, loved and confusing, even to this day theres less people but still being critizised.
