This is my favorite modeller I’ve ever used, but those stock IR’s might be the worst sounding things I’ve ever heard. I think this could have been much a bigger deal if they did a better job with those.
I’ve tested it with IRs I know are bad that I keep for weird sounds and even they make the unit infinitely better.

Choptones really did us and themselves no favours with those IRs. Improved a bit once I put some York Audio in there but I think Ill move it on.

Yeah, kind of a shame, since their business is also selling pre-made presets for many different multifx units. Not a good advertisement 😆

Good in depth review. I owned one when it first came out. Gave it a good run and stuck with it for a long time along with all the bugs and updates. Looks like they didn’t fix the super hot output which is what made me get rid of it. Having to turn everything way down to the point where it would clip even with everything turned down had me frustrated with the unit. I did like that it had an fx loop where I stuck a BBE Sonic maximizer and compressor to simulate tube sag. It worked really well. The moderate models were my favorite and they made a great pedal platform. Just couldn’t handle the super hot signal.

And, just as I made this video, IK went and released the Tonex One. I guess the Amp Academy is going to retire to the end of the chain early 😆
      Thanks, man
