  • I figured I should follow up the 2022 ArcheryTalk Hunting Bow Speed test with a video on draw cycle, shining in one of these categories often means sacrificing in the other.
The contestants this year, in alphabetical order, are:
    Elite Envision
    Hoyt RX7 Ultra
    Mathews V3X 29
    Prime Inline 3
    PSE EVO XF 33
Thank you to Canada Archery Online for letting me shoot this video at your shop.

It’s interesting to hear different opinions on a bow’s draw cycle and overall feel. To me, the Mathews feels like there is a HUGE dump into the valley, whereas the Hoyt is completely smooth. (at 29.5” draw.) It just goes to show you that every feel is VERY unique to each person, and you shouldn’t go solely by the reviews you watch on UA-cam. It’s always best to find the bow that works for YOU. The best bow for you may very well end up being a brand that you didn’t expect at all!
Interesting review. I do wish I had tried a Prime, but I’m VERY happy with my Rx7 Ultra!

I have the rx7 set at 28.5. That is the lowest setting on that mod. It draws super smooth. It makes a huge difference were you land on the draw setting as it relates to a smooth draw cycle. Thanks for the video.

Haven't tried the Elite Envision of those bows but think the Athens Vista range has the best draw cycle of any bow I've tried.

Interesting note on this subject…. I’m sure other manufacturers offer other options for their bows as well, but the mod you tested on the Elite is the hardest drawing mod we offer. We have a smoother mod (less speedy of course) than the performance mod shown in this test, which won! I love it! I appreciate your views, even when we don’t win 😜

Appreciate the insight, Nathan. You’ve shot far more bows than I have (and shot them far better). All five of this year’s bows are very good. Speed is close and draws cycles are on the same level. Picking a winner will come down to personal preference. They all shoot better than I do.

It is called The Ringer by No Limit Archery. Use your ring finger to fire the shot. Cool product, but I don't know that they are business any more.

They are all very close. I preferred the draw cycle on the RX5 Ultra, but that is just my opinion.

I love the V3X also but it’s so out of balance for me because the grip is so low on the riser, takes a lot of weight to get a good balance and feel for me. I hope the eventuality move the grip up closer to center like almost all other manufacturers

    • @rickmoss2326

I have the V3x 33 and it balances perfectly for me, with almost no stab weight. 3 on the rear bar, and one on the front. Mathews has always felt top heavy to me too...but the 33 is super sweet. First Mathews I have bought since 2008. And the ONLY company that puts the grip in the center is Prime...all others are off center.

One man’s opinion is correct. If the hoyt had shorter axle this year i would of picked it it cycle was that good. ( and im not a hoyt fan boy )

Elite always has the smoothest draw cycle. I shot a Mathews VXR I think I’m 2020 and to me that 70# bow felt like 80#’s. It was so much stiffer than the Elite Kure I shot that day. I shoot Xpedition, which I feel has a stiff but smooth draw cycle on most Bows. If I change bows, being that I’m 47, I’ll probably go Elite. Smooth, but still plenty fast enough.

I've shot an Athens. Once owned an Athens Judgement. But Athens has chosen not to participate in our hunting bow shootout in recent years, so I stopped asking.

Elite is smoother than Athens. Elite is best draw cycle out there. And I don’t own an Elite, I’m just stating the facts. I’ve shot a lot of Bows and Elite leads the pack on draw cycle.

I forgot my usual release at home, so was using an older one. It is called The Ringer. It was made by No Limit Archery. You use your ring finger to fire. I'm not sure the company is around any more, but this is a cool product.
