It's an odd pleasure to see Geoffrey Whitehead playing such a cheerful, comic character. He's always a pleasure to watch, but usually plays the straight man.

sadly... I have no idea... but MAY have been "Alas Smith & Jones"... or "Not the Nine O'Clock News" or other English Comedy show. ... but probably "Alas".
