i googled foods with high folate content and edamame popped up as #1 so here i am! thanks for the recipe, i never cooked it before, will try it tonight😊
In USA we can occasionally get fresh garbanzos (chickpeas) at the Latin/Mexican markets. The beans have a flavor and texture similar to edamame. The pods are thinner and shorter (one or two beans per pod.). Tip: Steam the garbanzos in the microwave in a covered dish with a SMALL amount of water. If you boil them, then hot liquid squirts out when you are eating them. We eat them with lime/chili/salt.
It's weird they really don't have a taste but once you start eating them you can't stop. Try the frozen ones in the market. Steam in the microwave and enjoy 😋
maybe this is a dumb comment but why do you not shell the beans before adding the sauce/salt? Why are you saucing/salting the outer shell that gets discarded? Or does the shell get discarded?
So you put salt and sauce on the outside of the Edamame? How does the taste transfer to the part which you actaully eat? By your finger or does it transfrer through the membrane? I mean, you just eat the beans inside.
about a week ago this girl in my french class was eating some edamame for a snack. then this girl wanted some, but she'd never actually eaten one before and didn't know how to get the little bean seed thingies out and dropped about two whole pods on the floor. so the guy sitting behind her had to guide her hands so she could learn how to push them out them properly... it's not really relevant but i just thought of that.
nope you don't eat the pods, just the beans on the inside, when you bite them out with your teeth you get a little bit of the outside taste of the pod.
I tried these today at a restaurant. Salted ones. I started eating the whole thing when the waiter came over and told me only to eat the beans inside. I should have taken the spicy ones instead because there wasn`t much flavour to speak of. But of course a good food bean i will try again :)
@@maxrod1247 Yea, I understand. I never really got into flavored sunflower seeds though. Too much work when you realize you can buy them pre-shelled, heh. Point taken anyway.
the pod skins, no. only the beans on the inside, but when you bite the beans out you usually suck in some of the sauce on the outside of the edamame beans to get a little taste of it.
I don't understand why ppl keep the outside on, coat them in sauce just to pop them out like how do u get any of the flavor from that wats the point???
Carol Ann, you can eat the pods if you like but unless you are a giraffe, moose or goat, or some other ruminant with a multi-chambered stomach, you cannot digest them. So be prepared to meet them again on the way out, lol. Better to just buy a bag of peas.
Lovelybrown: I occasionally grow soy (edamame) in my garden and I can assure you that all soy pods are nasty, whether they’re cooked, frozen or raw. Ruminants, however, can digest them in a special section of their stomach used for fermentation, so if you happen to have a cow or a moose nearby, it will be happy to have them. Otherwise, just pop out the little peas inside, usually 2 or 3, and toss the rest in the garbage...or the garden.
Ben Willms: Edamame is soybean in the pod and like all legumes is a member of the “pea” family fabaceae. Since the terms “pea” and “bean” have no real significance botanically, you can call it anything you like. The term “edamame” is more of a marketing or perhaps vogue term to sell a product that is mostly inedible.

this is a very wholesome comment
Edamame is so tasty! Even plain and simple with salt is still amazing!
Indeed it is, I love edamame so much, should definitely be snacking on more of these my self.
My favorite way to eat them. When we go out to eat Asian cuisine, I always get an order of roasted edamame!
so do you eat the pod or not?
I love this because I’m a gardener and I’m growing these just wanna know how to make my fav snack!

I got into dry roasted edamame months ago. I eat them like peanuts.
Curious about your sauce. I mean, if the pods aren't edible, what's the point?
Think of flavored sunflower seeds. You get the flavor from the shell as you’re trying to get out the seed or in this case edamame lol
@@maxrod1247 Yea, I understand. I never really got into flavored sunflower seeds though. Too much work when you realize you can buy them pre-shelled, heh. Point taken anyway.

Ive watched how you made soy sauce for sushi, You used bonito flakes and kombu. Is it tasty to use that recipe for Edamame as well?
Are fresh edamame cooked the same?

only the beans on the inside, but when you bite the beans out you usually suck in some of the sauce on the outside of the edamame beans to get a little taste of it.

Hey hello where can I get those beautiful coconut bowls!?
For anyone who can't get edamame, you can use green beans insteasd.
Hey can u do a recipe for boiled water?
I think you got this, just like you don't need to weigh gelatine sheets 😒
Whats the point of seasoning the outside of you only eat the bean outside? I feel like I’m missing something
thanks ted
In the sauce , do you eat the whole bean or just the bean
You can eat the whole bean but it's unpleasant both fresh or cooked so ur supposed to pop the beans out and just eat them
They have the best ones at either WHole Foods, Sprouts or any Asian Market. For heavens sake don't ever get "PicSweet" brand. Severely frostbitten.
Edamame!!!!!Could you fry them??Not dip in oil but fry on pan
Since in a lot of ways it’s just re-heating, yes you could fry them. But boiling is a lot healthier and it takes very little effort
Does frying it reduce the nutrients in the edamame?
Wet Shredder Not really, but it would be awkward to eat since you'd still have to get the beans out.
are you dutch?
yes, 1/2 Dutch 1/2 Belgium.
and you?
Loved it so much and the people at party were so surprised onnthebflavor...thanks

Hey that's vegan! 😁👍
Yes it is @Bella Sophia
Eyyy da mami!

What's the point of seasoning the shell if you're bot gonna eat it? Also, soy sauce AND salt?
you get the flavor when you bite them out, you suck a little on the exterior as you eat the edamame out.
Could you make some vegan sushi?
I don't understand why ppl keep the outside on, coat them in sauce just to pop them out like how do u get any of the flavor from that wats the point???

Don’t mind me just here from South Park to see why the city folks were saying edamame
He said that u dont est the outside of the bean so why is he salting and putting sauce on the outside if he's not eating that part
Was wondering that, too. If you put the pod to your mouth, when eating, then you get some sauce. Okay, but sloppy.
I've noticed that it is often cooked with the sauce on the pods. I don't get it either.
Hmn good food
Thank you! have you tried making some of these edamame beans?
Not me, but my grandmon yes. Its so good.

when in a Japanese restaurant they are probably edamame beans.

Sounds delicious but...are you really salting your soy sauce?? Why?
because mirin (sweet Japanese rice wine) is very sweet, just adding a pinch of salt balances that out.
