  • The river is RECORD HIGH for this time of year, so we've gone back to the old farm (ca.1800) to do some metal detecting. It was the right choice! Some nice finds! (and a few mysteries...maybe you can help us solve them?)
    Two days at the same location.
    We would prefer to be in the river, but it's about 4 ft too deep right now : (
    Wish we could send all this rain to those who need it!
    Hope you enjoy the video!

      Hi Patricia, You're on a video binge today! Glad you like the metal detecting. I still like the river better, but metal detecting is right up there too. Our river is over my head now🙄☔(in places) That's why we're not out there. July is usually one of our best months in the river. I went out detecting today.. found something quite unexpected, for a farm find, in July. (You'll have to wait and see. Lol) -Cathy

      Hi Karyn! Thanks for commenting on the square nails! They really are some of the oldest finds, and hand forged. Not sure the bent one was supposed to look like a seahorse though! 😄 -Cathy

      Thanks Kevin! Only the second Barber dime I've ever found. Yes, lamp part sounds right. I'm researching "tree taps" now... I hadn't thought of that! Thanks again! -Cathy

    Cathy, I'm not sure about most of your UFOs, but the first one is a lantern part. Awesome Barber dime and a beautiful old marble! Very nice blueberries!!!💖

    I am so amazed you found a marble when you were metal detecting. Here in Manitoba and the rest of Western Canada we would take every drop of water you do want to get rid of Cathy . Are you going to make pie out of the Blueberries for Drew it would taste so good Cathy...

      Hi Randy! I can't believe I found that marble, metal detecting! I was meant to have it! (Here comes more rain 😦☔)
      Blueberry pie and pancakes in our future!

    When you first said ox shoe, ( I thought God bless you from a sneeze ) I have never heard of an ox shoe. Your hands must be wicked tiny, cause a few of those blueberries looked to be the size of a plum. You can always be guaranteed to find more trash when metal detecting, then the good stuff. It's how I got into bottle digging. your area looks so serene and comfy. The deep woods of Mass. I love it. Was Drew standing next to the oven : ) Yummy. Thanks for such a wonderful day out in the country

      Hi Bruce, It's both.. I have small hands but those are the biggest blueberries I've ever seen! They are not wild.. my Dad planted rows and rows of them years ago. They are the size of a nickel (or a little larger, some of them) We went back again.. more finds and more blueberries. I will put that vid up next month, as I found something Chritmasy in the ground! Can you believe I found a marble while metal detecting?!😃 Ox shoes: very common farm finds.. Do you watch @stealth diggers? They find lots of them: They call them pork chops Lol because of the shape. Oxen have cloven hooves, so they need two shoes per foot.

      @@massriverpickers Apples, pears, grapes, blackberries, raspberries, blueberries, rhubarb, all the fruits of New England. I asked my younger brother Randy ( 60 ) if he had ever heard of ox shoes and he indicated no. I thought they looked like a pear cut in half. If that was your dads property, it was beautiful. It reminded me of where I grew up🐂

    • @massriverpickers
      @massriverpickers  2 роки тому +1

      Yes, my Dad's property. He also planted an apple orchard, pears, and peaches. It's a beautiful place, 3 out of 4 seasons. Winters are brutal. Yes, out in the woods.
      LOTS of woods. The house dates around 1800 or so. The ox shoes could be civil war era or even earlier, I'm not sure.. but your brother is definitely not old enough to remember the ones I'm digging up!

    The first one is a top to an oil lamp in the wick goes down inside in that bottom square piece got flattened but that's where the wick goes through. 👍 on the silvers!!! Sorry the only one I know is that first one
