Kit Review: Dragon 6644 StuG III F/8 w/ Winterketten in 1/35

- Here is my review of the StuG III F/8 with Winterketten from Dragon. This kit is 5 years old, but for Dragon kits that is a good thing as it comes with Magic Tracks, 2 sets in this case. I really like this one.
Thank you Adam for a great review. I bought this kit about 10 months ago, and I am finally starting to build it. I had 3 of those pegs broken that you mentioned, but it was not a problem to glue them to fit properly. This will be my first kit doing individual link tracks. I am anxious about doing them. I will be watching many tutorials on Magic Tracks before attempting building them. I know Panzermeister 43 has a good video on single link tracks. The call outs for paint say White over Gelb Braun. I had heard that some AFVs painted Gelb Braun meant for DAK in Africa got diverted to the Eastern Front where they were needed as replacement vehicles. That is a neat bit of History. You are becoming the StuGmaster.I built the StuG G when it was released in May 2012 and really liked it. The metal skirts gave me some painting problems, since my acrylic primer would not stick to it. I got some Mr. Surfacer 1000 and that stuck to the metal.

some stug F had the round panzer IV F2 muzzle break, there are several photos of such vehicles. its one on my to do list, just to troll know-it-alls on model shows. this kit is one i´m yearning for since it got released, but it became unavailable and/or very expensive quickly. it is a shame. so last december i built the old gunze sangyo f8 with winterketten and it looks almost as good and can be found for little money sometimes. i do not regret doing that, although i would have loved to have this new one because it is simply much more interesting to build.
+Hamilkar Barkas It's actually only $53 on the site I get new stuff from (which yes is in the US.) That's about as high as I think Dragon should ever cost though. I may just build it with that break.

Great review! I have never built a STuG but this one looks cool with the winter tracks. May have to get this one.

Hi Adam, about to start this kit based in part upon the reviews of yourself and Panzermeister 36 and discovered Dragon been up to their usual tricks and although both you and Evan make specific mention of the single baffle muzzel break that part of the sprue has been removed! Also the clear parts which were attached to your Dragon Card and indeed mentioned on the box are also missing!! No point contacting Dragon as did so when they removed parts from a Tiger kit and they did absolutly nothing. Have also stumbled across the rant from Hollywood Modelling regarding Dragon practices and heartily agree with him. Think will stick to Ryefield, Takom, Meng and AFV in the future😡
Really sorry to hear that. I've had DragonCare actually send me parts, but that was years ago. Is there not another brake in the box? Is it unfinishable?
I haven't started it yet as was looking over the sprues and labelling them but there is the "normal" one supplied. Might follow Evans lead and source one from RB Models. The missing Tiger parts was only last year and despite forwarding proof of purchase and address as requested by them, zip!!!
Hi Adam, thought I'd let you know I have found a "replacement" in a Dragon Panzer IV F (F1) kit in my stash I checked out just for the sake of it!!
It's a winter theme. Maybe that's why so many shovels and axes?

Thanks for doing this kit review. I was specifically interested in this particular kit for the winterketten. This will be my first venture with a Dragon kit, and my first Stug. Did you ever build this? I was wondering how you overcame the broken parts on the body? I would hate to have to ship the kit back for defects that prevented me from building it. I am very glad to know it comes with the two sets of magic tracks because I am getting another Stug III kit, Dragon 6578. 6578 comes with DS Tracks and I have seen people talk about how the DS Tracks are bent or broken. This way I will have a back up of regular Magic Tracks in case the DS Tracks are damaged. I had originally had a kit in my shopping cart that you said was horrible, the Cyber Hobby 9119 Stug ausf c/d. I was tempted by the low $23 price and the inclusion of the figures, but after seeing your review decided against buying that kit. I have enjoyed your videos and am grateful for your reviews. Keep up the great work Adam!
+John Richards Thank you very much. I didn't build this one yet, but I've had those same pegs broken on a few Panzer III hulls and it's honestly no big deal. They're meant to be removable if you want workable suspension. I like to keep my StuGs flat on the ground though, so if most or some are in tact it gives you level the wheels should sit at. Once you put some glue around the contact point of the swing arm and set it flat it will dry perfectly. I have a StuG reveal on the channel somewhere and that one had half of the pegs broken and you can't tell.
You made a good choice. If you need any esoteric Dragon StuG advice just yell. They go together well, but you never know.
+Adam Mann Thanks for the advice. I just placed the order last night, so scalehobbyist should ship in a few days. I am really very hot to build my first Dragon and first Stug kit. I just had to buy the winterketten kit and a regular weather one. I have been bitten by the Stug Bug! LOL.

nice review, "hint" glue the anti grenade screen on the top of jig, just a bead of glue, then bend down, around jig, remove it with duro s glue remover, or any remover. HtH.

I am starting my today ;) I am upgrading the tube to a metal but otherwise I am building it as is... nice video
