    Great exterior design in this Dune variant!! The traditional silhouette from the old “Käfer” is still phenomenal !!
    Not everyone likes cars like this !! That makes the Beetle special ;)

    Both men and women like the Beetle. The only difference is that men shame each other into not buying it BECAUSE women also like it.
    There’s a difference.

    The VW Beetle Dune model is an excellent example of German engineering for the single person, especially in convertible TSi guise.

    I have a 2012 Beetle with the 2.5, 5 speed. The only two problems I've had, was while driving the colorado, one of the lines to the power steering pump cracked and ruined the pump, but got that fixed. The other problem with the 2.5's in general is the PCV diaphragm tearing and leaking oil into the throttle body, covering the MAP sensor with oil. Easy fix though, you just gotta clean the throttle body and sensor, and they make kits to replace the diaphragm - which works for a while - but you might as well replace the whole valve cover just to be safe. It's fairly cheap and easy to do. But other than that the car has almost 200k miles and it's still going strong! Very happy with it!

    I enjoy you're Dune review in my garage right now, while waxing my Habanero Orange Beetle.😁 It's soooo relaxing to hear you and look right to my tablet PC ! Iconsider to get a Dune Convertible, after 2 Beetle Coupe's (by the way, i never had quality issues).The Usability of the Coupe is much better, for a every Day Car.☺ But Hey...We Beetle Drivers think different. 😋 We want the fun and relaxed feeling of this car. Weiter so Thomas! Macht einfach super Reviews! Greetings - Sebastian☺✌

    I own a 2015 Beetle Sport DSG 220ps which is practically identical to this. I bought it mainly because the seating is higher than most convertibles which tend to lie you down on the floor. That makes it all-day comfortable. What I didn't expect was how sporty it was. I got two cars in one - a beach side cruiser and a back street hot hatch. Took it on holiday to France for two weeks. It easily took all our luggage in the boot + on back seats. It's a rare combination of retro, fun, performance and practicality. I can't think of a new car I could buy today that would equal it. I have to keep it, because it's irreplaceable.

    a dream car, I would buy it if I had the money. I wouldn't care about the lack of space because the vintage and modern sporty look is too great. I like very much the panel fold all over the side (one hand wide beneath the window line).

    Excellent review Thomas! One of the most iconic cars from the World War 2, but updated and with modern technology. I would go for the Dune Convertible model but definitely with DSG Gearbox. But in the final part of this video, the piece of resistence, was the vintage blue Kaffer. What an iconic car... made for war by Ferdinand Porche.

    Great review, thanks so much. Helpful when deciding whether to buy the Dune in solid white with sandstorm yellow alloys. My biggest question is regarding the upper gauge panel on top of the dash. I can see it is present in your vehicle, but I'm not sure it is available in all versions of the Dune. Some extra clarification on that would have been welcome. In all, great video. Thanks!

    I agree, the idea of a modern everyday car that gives, even a small impression that you're driving an older car - is fun. Fun is good. You ask us about the hood cover? I wouldn't bother with the cover either - indeed I like the folded "pram hood" - it's different. You ask us if I would take a cabrio or a coupe. With this car: the cabrio, any day! Thanks Thomas & Katherina, for an interesting Review.

    @autogefühl Thomas, I do love your reviews, especially how you evaluate and appreciate every car you drive, whether you like it or not. I can trust that. You said a few times you’d buy the convertible model, but you didn’t say why. I’d love to know why-could you tell us? Are you not a bit scared for the lack of safety if the car were to roll over in an accident? Or mosquitoes biting you? Or something hitting you, like a rock or so? I’m an engineer and safety for me is primordial, so I’m curious at why convertible fans don’t seem to be worried about safety. By the way, I’d love it if you incorporated more safety data in your overall reviews. Nobody does that either, so there’s opportunities for car reviewers to grow in that arena. Once again, thank you. Oh, love seeing 🇩🇪 GER in your videos. How about showing us the Black Forest sometime?! That would be super!!

    Hi Thomas … I liked the paint colour's name: Sandstorm … sounds like there's a Darude fan from 2001 or so that liked that song of the same name. Re convertibles : I had a Austin Healey 3000 in the late 60's, but like you say, if it had modern fittings I'd like it again, but it was … well a bit lacking in brakes but did have the skinny steering wheel. I like your reviews.

    Volkswagen really did not think productively enough with packaging issues on new gen Beetle. It was treated more as a novelty/image factor with a high sticker price rather than their usual tradition of good complete build practice on most of their vehicle line-up. Gen 2 only addressed a few issues.. mostly aesthetics. Looks really ok this Gen 2, maybe final hurrah for Beetle before it bows out sometime 2018(?).
    Another top and enjoyable review there Thomas. Next convertible review.. Mercedes-AMG GT C?

    I love this second generation of the new era and the last i suppose since VW ceased production last year 2019 for this model wich is sad because it was the best Beetle for me and this Dune version i never saw it here in Portugal, i don´t know if VW sold it here, but the other models yes the 2.0tsi 220 hp and TDi also, wish i could own one of these,

    You know...if VW would have used a carmel colored wood grain material on the dash it would have really made the interior pop that much more. It still very nice as is.

    I love the Beetle Dune and have been looking forward to this review. It's the kind of car I would buy. However I am not a fan of convertibles, so it would be the coupe for me and with DSG. It is rather expensive in my country and there are very likely better propositions for the money. Perhaps in two or three years a used one might be an option. I liked the colour of the test vehicle, and the way the body colour repeated through the interior and on the wheels. The fabric on the seats is a disappointment - would have preferred Alcantara. A rear engine would have been a bonus, as some other comments have suggested. Overall a great review. Now can you please test a coupe version with DSG?

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  7 років тому

      +Nick Elzinga thanks! Heh the coupe dsg test wont differ much :)

    • @LookingGlass24
      @LookingGlass24 5 років тому

      Thomas, Even if it doesn’t vary much, you’d be one of the few with the review of the coupe. I am probably going to buy the 2019 Beetle’s Final Edition; so, I am miffed that I can’t find decent reviews of the Coupe. The coupe has double the trunk space and I would get it with a sun roof. My 2014 Jetta Sportswagon TDI has been an awesome car, but being single with no kids or family close by, it’s too much car for me. I’ve never even taken passengers in the back seat, imagine that?! So I need a smaller car and I’ve always loved this car. I can always get a Golf later in life (I live the Alltrack Golf, similar to my Jetta), but I may never be able to get a Beetle again past 2019. Please consider doing a review of a Beetle Coupe, as it’s functionality differs completely from its convertible sibling. Many Thanks for your consideration. @autogefühl

      @LookingGlass24 5 років тому

      Nick Elzinga I too want a coupe with DSG! I have almost decided I will get one this fall-the 2019 Final Edition if the Beetle. They’re retiring the Beetle forever. Such sad news 😢

    A cabriolet is the perfect platform for rear mounted engine and rear wheel drive. Think about it. The small trunk space gets used more effectively and you save yourself the hassle of fitting it with a transaxle. Unfortunately in reality, this Beetle has a tiny trunk, but a huge bonnet and only half of the volume beneath it gets used effectively. Makes me cringe.
