Thank you so much Vibra cobra for uploading all these peel sessions. I listen to some of them daily almost. Polvo, the Damned, Eno and the winkies... The list goes on and on.....
Jay smiling + Lou dejected is about right for 1988. Dinosaur Jr. were the definitive band of the era. You'd here their music playing everywhere in the US until the late 1990's.

I can't believe the band disbanded after this. They were peaking incredibly high, intense, cohesive, strong.

Carlo Marchiori J “fake” disbanded the band in 1989 to piss off Lou, then “reformed” when Lou left.. So basically Lou was kicked out passive-aggressively..
I love dinosaur jr so much and the records they've made in the studio, but Peel's work here with them tops that

These are some nice alt versions of the tunes! Raisans, It Floats and Bulbs are pretty tight, though the guitar on Leper is sloppy. Doesn't matter, it's just nice to hear different versions of great songs.
of course, leave it up to john peel to capture the best sound and performance of any band live. I actually wish the album sounded this way.

That riff for Leper has been the worst case of earworm I've ever had; it lasted for months and I couldn't remember where I'd heard it til now.

I love's Lou's screaming. I mean, he really lays into it. I know he's been writing his own great tunes for Dinosaur, but I actually miss how J would write a song and have Lou sing it. I'd like to have some of that on a new record.

Damn, this performance of Does It Float is basically the source of Nirvana's entire thing.
Haha... I always felt Nirvana was more Painted Willie, Meat Puppets and Black Flag meets the melody of the Vaselines, but they listened to a lot of stuff and mixed it all together.

That's all true, and I started it by bringing in bands as comparison points, but Nirvana had their own thing. What helps make these bands interesting is they aren't some formulaic "best of" combination of other groups, but they originate more organically.
Kurt specifically felt he was making a Pixies song with Teen Spirit, and their early stuff is very obviously Melvins / Sonic Youth inspired
@@2000Doriyas Kurt did say that about Pixies. Sure, he liked Sonic Youth and was friends with the Melvins, but those guys took inspiration from all kinds of underground and mainstream music. They called one song "Aero-Zeppelin" for god's sake, LoL. The biggest influence on that scene was probably Black Flag!

J Mascis here sounds even younger. This easily could be from '85 or earlier.
I don't think Raisans existed yet in '85. It's definitely earlier than '88. Probably '86.

+Vibracobra23 I'm not criticizing you, I just don't think that in '88 they would play three songs from Dinosaur and one from You're Living All Over Me, but no songs from Bug.
+Jackson Page I'm not saying that you are criticizing me...but that's the date it was recorded...it's a well established and provable fact...as shown by the recordings of the original broadcast that still exist...you'd have to ask the band why they recorded those particular songs at that particular time
J plays a bit of Sweet Child of Mine, which didn't come out until '87. Has to be later than that.

Yea, why? Great performer and song writer. Had Jay not kicked him, a lot of those Sebadoh songs could have been top 10.
For those who don't understand, he means visually. J and Murph look cool, but Lou looks like a fucking virgin. That's what TXZZ is trying to say.
@@johnnyslc exactly the point. Jay was jealous that lou was becoming better than him at that point. Considering that he was the frontman of the band he would have the biggest ego in the group
