its more tragic for zelda since she was a dragon waaaaaay longer than 1000 years. the great calamity happened 10,000 years ago. the events we see happen in the past take place waaaaaaay before that. shes been a dragon for 10s of thousands of years
Tears of the kingdom takes place 3 or so years after botw. The calamity happened 100 years prior to Botw.(link being asleep for 100 years Rijus mom being Urbosa, etc) I can see why people say 10,000 years and some change because 10,000 years prior to totk was when this Ganondorf was sealed by Rauru.
@@LeoneLaTwerk2 the great calamity was 10,000 years ago. It's the one shown in the tapestry with the unknown hero. Calamity Ganon then reemerged 100 years before breath of the wild
Zelda spent 10,000 years alone. She knew that she might be alone forever, but in her final moments as a person, you can see she was trying to be brave. For nobody. And in her final moments, her thoughts are not of the sacrifice she's making. Not the fear she feels. Her final thoughts are of Link, and the people of her Kingdom. We know that Zelda always loved Silent Princess flowers, but as noted in her journals, she could never cultivate them. They kept dying, and they were rare in the wild. Well.. around that final Dragon Tear we find many Silent Princess flowers. For thousands of years, Zelda was cursed to wander the skies of Hyrule alone, mindless and voiceless. A Silent Princess.
it's been significantly longer than 10,000 years. the Divine Beasts were 10,000 years ago, and it had happened so regularly that the Sheikah were extremely prepared for it. the time of Rauru and the Zonai is likely 100,000+ years ago.
@@protowave That's a pretty good guess. We don't know how many cycles of Calamity Ganon there were, but there had to be at least 3, so it's bare minimum 30,000 years. I would probably place 100,000 at the max though since we aren't even given a clue as to how many cycles there were.
Since Zelda becomes a dragon during the age of hyrules founding, that could mean that sh s a dragon in every Zelda game before breath of the wild. It could also be the reason why every princess in hyrule is named Zelda
Ah, sorry to burst your bubble, but a lot of evidence seems to imply that this Hyrule was founded long after the rest of the games. It's just been so long since then that no one remembers the old Hyrule. Only stories and _legends_ remain. It's the only way the timeline makes sense.
@@coopinatormusic6214 Alternatively, BotW/TotK may take place from a timeline split born from Skyward Sword. Specifically when SS Link destroyed Demise in the past. Skyward Sword past-->BotW/TotK Skyward Sword Present--> All other Zelda Games
Fun fact: The other 3 dragons use the same theme, played on an erhu. For the Light Dragon, it sounds like someone starts to play Zelda's Lullaby on an erhu, but then forgets the notes and trails off into a sad sounding theme. Which fits with her "losing herself" and not remembering. Also you can find Zonai gear based on the other 3 dragons, which resembles them. This means they were likely Zonai who swallowed stones in the past. It's left vague though, and we don't know their identities. Also, "secret stone" is just a literal (google translate) translation of the Japanese term, and pretty much all the subtlety and connotations of the original term are lost. They're actually based on magatamas, which pretty much noone in the west would understand. The original term in Japanese can mean mysterious, mystical, spiritual, wondrous, and also secret (but the way we'd use it in the phrase "secrets of the universe", not "it's a secret to everybody"). SO MUCH was lost in translation. The "sword that seals the darkness" doesn't seal any darkness. In Japanese it's called the blade of evil's bane.
Interesting localization differences! I always thought they looked like magatamas but didn't realize they were genuinely inspired by those. (Played all the Ace Attorney games which is where I first learned about magatamas, then later in a history class in uni)
'when she got.......got' loool Also I know this is Nintendo retconning it but I love Rauru's third eye looking like the old arrow switches in past Zelda dungeons. I screeched at that connection.
I couldn't quickly think of a way to describe her getting pulled into the dark chasm through time haha. And omg I didn't even make that connection with his third eye! It totally does look like those!!
I have to say sometimes I am jealous of people who can break or cry during games or movies/tv-shows. No matter how strong the feeling sad or happy which I do have ofc during those moments, I never cried during those moments as long as I can remember. And no I don’t say that to drag, my body just doesn’t do that lol❤
During the first dragon roar when the Light Dragon pops out of the bubbles you can hear another voice inside the roar. Its Zelda. Shes screaming. And its not just a "AHHHHH!" Its a terrifying guttural scream. Like a mother who lost a child. When the Dragon Roars for the second time, that scream is quieter. By the third time you can't hear it anymore.

I've been playing Zelda games for 15+ years. Love them so much that's where the first half of my username comes from and I've got a big Master Sword tattoo. I don't think I'm missing that much Zelda lore lol. This was a reaction video and not a lore/game analysis video, so my focus was on experiencing and reacting to the gameplay and cutscenes in real time on a first playthrough.
