    Those of us back in December of 1970 (who were hoping the Beatles might not disband) were devastated by this song. To this day when I listen to John state 'I don't believe in Beatles' it's like striking a raw nerve. Imagine Cim what it was like hearing this song when it was released. It was like a kick to the stomach, a pain that has never fully gone away. Your face during the last half of the song indicated you felt some of what we felt back in the day. I remember feeling confusion, betrayal, sadness and anger. Anger that Yoko was John's sole (and soul) partner now. John is on top of his game here and this song is indeed a masterpiece. Painful as it is, for many of us still. RNB

      Hey Rick. I felt the same way, but I heard an old interview and John said we're still here. Just listen to our solo records. It's not quite the same but it did help.

      @@billvallier3852 I remember that interview. I believe he said something along the lines of "all the old Beatles records are still there. You can still listen to them.' You're right Bill, it did help a little. RNB

      I felt like he was saying goodbye telling us we just have to move on. To speculate, it was his feelings at the time but he later rather got over it when he went back to his music.

    John was declaring his right to become himself in this song. Even with all the fame and adoration during the sixties, he needed to find who he really was. My favorite.

    The first time I heard this song was in john lennon's long documentary about his life.. I remember the lyric - "The dream is over" When john sang it in the documentary the night he was shot and see the stretcher coming out of , the ambulance going into the hospital! it was heartbreaking!

    This is my favorite John Lennon song. Zimmerman was Bob Dylan's birth name. Song came out the year Beatles broke up. John is telling Beatles fans that they have to carry on w/o Beatles. Don't rely on anybody else, including Beatles. Believe in yourself.

      This was released at the end of 1970. Paul's bowl-of-cherries was out in April, the same month he made headlines announcing the Beatles' breakup. Ringo released 2 albums (SENTIMENTAL and BEAUCOUPS), while George's ALL THINGS was released a few weeks before this Plastic Ono album was.

    He explained what he meant when he said God is a concept by which we measure our own pain. The more pain you’re in the more you need God. I recommend Beautiful Boy and Grow Old With Me where his attitude about God has changed.

    A hard time for John....a hard time for us fans.....I remember feeling very lost.....for many of us.....our world largely revolved around them.......their music....their words.......their ideology. When I hear this song.....I'm always struck by the fact that despite our beliefs......there are times when it seems we are .......alone......we are it.....our gods are silent.......ever mysterious. 🤔🤔🤔🤔

    It was me, hehe, that suggested it, Cimdy. Thank you so much for the quick reaction!! I knew you'd love it. ✌️🙏❤️🙏✌️. Please keep Beatles and solo Beatles coming. Excellent work. May I suggest a great Beatles album track that always gets overlooked. It's called "Wait!", and it is off Rubber Soul, if it doesn't get blocked. I don't think you reacted to that one yet. Thanks again, sweetheart.🙏

    John was a devout atheist, and this is just a song to remind people to only believe in those things that real in their life. Religion, and other Icons mean nothing in the grand scheme of everything. John always tried to help people shed their lives of meaningless dogma.

    😱😱what is the meaning behind this music 😰😰

    • @braudabo
      @braudabo 2 роки тому +3

      In the song, John Lennon bids farewell to the Beatles, to the 60s, to questionable/debatable teachings, to his music idols, to religious compulsions, in order to start a new chapter in his existence, together with his life partner Yoko Ono. Lennon's views, however, were never definitive and varied from time to time. In that year, 1970, he probably processed an inner emptiness after the Beatles split. He even underwent Arthur Janov's "Primal Scream Therapy", which appears to enable people, to scream out their emotional pain. Has he also processed it musically, as can be heard in his song "Well, well, well". Is on the same album as "God" (John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band).

      @oneeyedmonster9460 2 роки тому +1

      Listen very closely to the lyrics. But if you didn't grow up with the Beatles it would be confusing trying to understand what he is saying. He just wants to be John Lennon, not just another Beatle. And that's how some fans treated them, as the Beatles, instead of individuals.
