    This Week we have Doug Blaine from Bachmann Trains who shares the line of Thomas models. Dan Mycio, Campbell Rice and James Regier talk models and electronics. Bruce Rogers shares his home layout. We look at past Bachmann photographs shot form 2000 to the present day 2021 catalog cover. We cover a lot of ground in about 54 minutes this week.

    I’ve been watching a bunch of your shows Ken, but I thought it would be appropriate to come back and comment on the show that brought me to your show! As a fan of Thomas I came to this show to see Daisy, and stayed for rest! Love what you and all that participate in the show have done for this hobby! I love seeing a new show from you every week, and I thoroughly enjoy hearing what you have to say each way! Keep up the excellent work!

    I absolutely enjoyed the behind the scenes of your work for the magazines. As someone who has worked in TV and Radio for over 20 years the attention to details that goes on behind the scenes is lost to the average person. So much work no one ever sees, but in the end the final shots are just freaking amazing.

    Great show as always, I am a MRL modeller in New Zealand and also a friend of Bruce Rogers. It was great to see him on the show.

    When I was 3, I started watching the old 1990s TAndF episodes. I had about 50 plus dvds and vhs tapes of Thomas and friends. That got me in the hobby as well. I was not present last week and probably wont be this week. I should be present the week after that.

    So good to see the El Cap-Super Chief on the closing roll thru. I used to watch them East and westbound out my back door in Bernalillo, NM, and out the back door of my arts and crafts classroom too I lived and taught there from August 1956 to December 1981. Seeing that makes me wish I modeled HO instead of O, On-3, and On-30.

    Thanks to that Bachman ad back in 2001, I built an entire layout with E-Z track. I am about to retire the layout, but what a great photo that has inspired countless model railroaders!

    Ken, of course, you know I was assistant manager at the Great Train Store in Atlanta's North Point Mall in '94 and some of '95. We had a Thomas (not sure if Bachman or LGB) running in our store constantly on our suspended bridgework. It also came out of the store and curved and went back in on an overhang at the entrance. We had a back up Thomas, but we rarely had to use it until a customer lifted his toddler daughter up to look at it and she grabbed it and it came crashing and smashing to the floor. "Please Do Not Touch" signs went up and we even tried to have a plexiglass barrier put up, but Mall Management would never approve it. I could go on for quite a stretch about things I experienced in that job, but just suffice it to say that it was never boring. Also, I wish there had been Thomas when I came up in the '60s and '70s. I'd have been on that like white on rice. My granddaughter, Emmy, loves to see, and operate on my layout, the HO Bachman Thomas set I got her for Christmas. Betcha Stripe would like me. I'm a kitty person. Good show, Man. Good show!

      I remember visiting that store quite a few times back in the day as well as the one in New Orleans and DC.
      I believe the Thomas you saw was the one Lionel had as I still have that one (my very first train).
      Do you have an HO scale layout and are you apart of any clubs in the metro Atlanta area?

    • @ChamplainDivision
      @ChamplainDivision 3 роки тому

      Yes, I have an HO D&H layout. I’m a member of the NMRA Piedmont Division. I am also a member of a local metro Atlanta run session group.

    The Hiawatha photo; to expand upon what Mike Hirvela said, Techny is a place located between Glenview and Northbrook IL. The train is Northbound, Westward by timetable. The bridge is the Chicago and North Western freight bypass around Chicago. Techny is the location of Tower A-20 on The Milwaukee Road and this is where freight trains get on and off the mainline to go join the CNW line on their way to Bensenville yard.

    I'm an adult and I really enjoy the Thomas models. The design is eye popping fitting in any layout. The iconic characters breath recognition and popularity in model trains. You will see the showcases of G scale and HO Thomas on my channel.

    The Milw Rd train would be at Techny, IL. Pronounced Tek-nee. The bridge in the background is on the C&NW line heading SW to Proviso Yard. The bridge truss-work is very distinctive and characteristic of the CNW.

    Another great show with super guests and topics. My 3 grandsons all grew up with Thomas trains and our youngest is an aficionado of Thomas even riding behind the full scale Thomas and Percy at Strasbourg, PA. For a real treat try the You Tube story of the Thomas origin in England. Heartwarming story of a father writing the story of Thomas and Sodor Island for his son. Thanks for a great show.

    Just watching “Great Scenic Railroad Journeys” this month on Iowa PBS this month on the train in New Zealand. Beautiful country scenery, mountains, ocean, villages love to visit there in the future and ride your trains. No train through “Hobbiton” though.
