    Great tutorial. My dad and I just did this on my 1990 735iL.

    Great vid. The M30 is so easy to give an oil change. Everyone has an opinion on the type of oil. My BWM mechanic says 10-40. I add 300ml of liqui-moly friction reducer as well.

    I would just put the oil filter in, then add the new crush washer and the plug down below, tighten this to about 22 ft pounds. Add some oil to the filter housing to prevent a dry start. Then sub the crush washed and add the housing cap and tighten this. Then add the oil up top, five quarts and check the level. Adjust and add the cap.

      Agree!
      With our tropical weather here, 5W50 is good in our M20 & M30 ✌️

    0w40?!
    Use all ways no matter in dessert or Siberia 15w40 !!!

      The first number is the viscosity when cold. It will flow better than 15w40 when the engine is cold and flow exactly the same at operating temp as the 15w40

      In the Garage DIY ok thank you for the advice, I got am 1995 e34 525 v24 as my first car.
      I am a beginner, but what if I start my car mostly in cold mornings, in the night. After I start from home I go 2 minutes later on the Autobahn, it's not recommended/allowed to drive slower than 80 km/h.

      @@guntherivanov7738 no prob! 30 seconds of idle is enough to get the oil flowing well before you drive. Just accelerate smoothly when going on the Autobahn and not redline until the engine is warm. It will be fine.

      Kinda late to the party but owners manual for e32 (with the same engine as here m30b35) lists quite wide range of oil viscosities for many operating temperatures. Your m50b25 oil viscosity varies from 5w20 (for near always frozen environments) up to 20w50.15w40 is not always great choice.

    0-40!!??

      @InTheGarageDIY  7 років тому +1

      David Reyes That's correct.....0W flows better than 5w and 10w on cold starts, but at operating temp has the exact same viscosity as a 5w40 and 10w40.

      @@InTheGarageDIY Flows better, but protects less and is nosier. Unless your're in a frozen tundra M30s require 20w50. Not to mention Mobil1 0w40 has been show to be a bit thin and is a group III base oil.
