A truly gifted performer. Watch her natural facial expressions flow with the music. She makes it look easy and natural. The great Rosemary Clooney. Buzz, thanks for the share.
I am totally unknown in the entertainment world, which is fine with me, but, when I was singing, I was told my singing style and voice were very reminiscent of Rosemary Clooney. I will always remember that and have always considered it a huge compliment because, in my opinion, she had a very velvety voice and a very likable presence on stage. She was a consummate entertainer and a great talent. I often sing harmony with her when playing her recordings because she sang in the same key as I do. It's a very enjoyable way to pass the time for me. I miss you, Rosie.
I think I like Clooney's singing from this period best. The voice had taken on a warm burnished glow, but she still had much of her upper range, and the shortness of breath that dogged her in later years hadn't crept in yet. At this point, she was able to infuse her interpretations with a kind of worldliness and wisdom that could only come from going through years of life's ups and downs... while still in full command of her instrument.
That is how performers were and everyone loved them. A prominent show where lines were flubbed was the Carol Burnet variety show. It was hilarious. They didn't try to hide it, either. They laughed and made it a part o the show. Performers were people and we loved them even MORE because of that. Performers didn't make a big deal of their flub-bubs and that is what endeared them with us. They were people we could identify with. Hardly anyone can identify with most of the entertainers that came after these greats like Rosemary Clooney. That is why they have fans...a lot of fans...however, the newer entertainers do not resonate with everyone. I was a young person (teens and twenty's) when these people were famous and I loved them...so did my friends. We loved everything about their era. The entertainers appealed to us as people...just like us. Those were the days, my friend!

What a class act and a timeless performance... un vrai coup de coeur pour Rosemary Clooney.

she was wonderful...
Such a pro. She carries on even when she flubs a line. She is so missed.
