I watched this movie many times with my wife, we both loved it, and even our daughter learned how to play it in piano, and sadly she passed away this summer from cancer, now everything time i listen this song i can't stop crying, but i know she is with princes Ofelia in a better world with no pain. love you, I miss you.

If you think about it, both of their lives mirrored each other. Both had to protect their brother, both had knives as their weapon, and both had a secret passage (In mercedes case the hidden room on the floor and on Ophelia´s case the chalk). That is why they both clicked so well together.

The implication was that the fantasy world was not real which is why only she could see it. It was her escape and coping mechanism of dealing with the realities of a terrible national civil war. However, her fantasy world guided her in making ethical decisions in the real world which is what makes this movie even more powerful.

It was only one year after I and my son could escape dying in a war, when I first saw the movie. This movie was so emotionally intense to me, as it reminds me of too many feelings and situations that I lived during the war. Since that day, I keep thinking of what could happen to my son, if I died in that stupid war. Will he also resort to imaginary world to escape the brutality of our world! I managed to learn playing piano after, and the first thing that I played was this music! Nowadays my son plays it also, and it makes me sad and thankful each time he plays it to me. It's just amazing how can a movie, like this one, express deeply some feelings that we are unable to express by words

Look at Covid, Wars … obeying for the sake of obeying without questioning. Sad thing is that it has wider implications on the world we live in. Those who think and speak out usually suffer the most

Claudia Reed yea but that doesn't mean he did all the work. The director generally has the final say on a screenplay and they design the look and feel. I bet you consider bettlejuice to be a tim burton film right? well Burton didn't write the screenplay or produce, same with speilberg and jaws. if they didn't direct it's hardly their movie.

well the movie was split in two genres, the brutality of the the real world and fantasy. this leads to two possibilities: one is that what Ofelia sees are real, only invisible to the human eyes or two, the fantasy was the effect of reading the books. In some cases, humans tend to discharge themselves from brutality and horror and begin to plug themselves into their imaginary world- a mental disorder for short. Either way, it was a beautifully sad movie, the casts did an amazing job

    • @georgepantzikis7988

I think it's allegorical; in the film it gets progressively more real just like a fantasy in real life gets more "real" the more you escape from it. At the end as someone mentioned at the chase there is a direct influence of the imaginary world with the real one. I think this represents the final tipping point where the fantasies and ideas of the individual begin to affect their judgement and actions in real life. At that point who can really say for sure if it's fantasy or reality. You never want to lose yourself that much to ideas but it does happen to a lot of people.

Where does all the light go when we die?
Where and when does it then pretend to hide?
And if I should die, oh well goodbye
Please just know that I only tried, I tried to save you
I lied to eyes set on grave dunes
Just to break through, the eternally
    Swallowing black night
Can't you see, can't you see?
We who would be, cast now unfree
Shackled in lonesome rusted cells to atone
Burning heavy thoughts as acetone on ashen bone
As we groan in despair's faulty clutches
An unruly, sultry, lair with a duchess
Who caresses, serenely, to make joy seem unseemly
Or unable, oh, just but a fable, of a mad man

“Don’t go dying into the night”
With reassurance, and smile thin as sand,
“I’ll be fine, don’t stay for the sight”
    Tears welled from her pupil-pools
    “I beg you, don’t be a fool!”
The sun had died, far past noon
“Free me tonight, I’ll see you again soon”
I slipped her fingers out of mine
And turned away, walking in line
For one last time, I’d seen her face
    And without a sound
    And without lingering pain
    My existence faded, without trace

The ending of the movie is truly heart breaking when she. well when she drop her own innocent blood. 😥😥😥😥 this song just breaks my heart , I know that its just a movie but it was so touching I never knew I could cry so much . and to this day when I hear it or even hear someone whistling it , I can feel my heart sink into my belly and my breath taken away from sorrow. this is truly haunts me , she was so innocent. This is the only movie I've watched that has truly stolen my heart and only movie that has haunted me

There was once a little girl. She was curiois, lovely, and brave little girl.
one day, she lost her ball in the *scary* forest. Brave as she, she went to look for it. While she was looking for the ball, she found an strange tree. They were two trees, that was stuck with therself, seemingly never seperating. Curious she is, she asks "Tree tree tree. Why you guys are stuck with each other?" then the older one ansmers
    (The piano starts)
    - Once at time, we we're humans. We were was very poor, but honest and nice.
As time gets older, we became older. But no matters how old, and ugly we look, we still loved each other more. Untill one day
( The violin is the lady)
Oneday, an two strangers came. We know it was our last year to stay alive, and by kindness, we give them everything we had to make them feel comfortable. We had our nice fun, until we realize they were gods. We feared them, but they say they will reward us for our kindness. We was confused, but said our wish
    (Now both of them)
"We wish to, never let any of us seperate from each other. When our time comes, take both of us with you"
We said. They said it will grant and disappeared. After they gone we used the time, and start to talk. About our hard time, and love days. Word by word, they were leafs growing on us. But we didnt cared. After last time. We say to each other
    *"goodbye, my love"*
We became tree. We were holding hands.
but one day, an one wood chopper try to take one of us. We cried for help. By the gods promise, somehow an large spikey forest grow, kicking the chopper behind. And here we are" They say
    The girl went silent
