The wheels on European cars sit on the center of the hub :) when you are removing last bolt, you just push the center of the wheel to not fall of the hub, put away the last bolt and then hold the wheel with two hands. Having said that, this tool can make it easier and most importantly, it will help to line up the wheel with bolt holes.
The Vee Dub in the late 60s early 70s didn't have a centre hub that allowed one to do that. I sure wish it had as that would have eliminated much frustrating and struggling from my 15 year old self. 😁
I used to work in a garage after school 52 years ago and I far king *hated* Volkswagen and their stupid lugbolts. It was easier changing truck and tractor tyres (tires) than the wheels the Volkswagen. They were such a shit of a thing to line up the hole and try and put the first lugbolt into. Having weak upper body strength didn't help either. Saw you on Scotts channel so I came across to say *Thank You* for what you did for him. Your kind offer got you a Subscription. 👍
Volkswagen is still a pain to work on hasn’t changed much! Thank you for the support I appreciate it. Having Scott in my shop was awesome I’ve watched him for years before I even thought of doing UA-cam myself. Having him in my shop was awesome I’ve always wanted to meet him and he’s a great guy!
I own a VW and keep a pair of these in my trunk. They are commonly called "tommy bars." I use two because it lines the wheel up to all of the other openings with less input from me.
I had the same problem with my Skoda. I went to a nut and bolt store and got two bolts the same thread and three inches long, cut the the heads off and slotted the ends. Problem fixed.
