- Felling is like a never-ending learning experience. That first day of felling in the forest each Spring is not like riding a horse. LOL! You can tell how rusty you are by how many trees you hang up. But it felt great to get back into the forest and continue work on the Target Range. Cheers!

Hey there GP! Are we ever going to to be able to get you over to the dark side (Husqvarna chainsaw side?) haha
LOL! Good day Sandy. Truth is I almost decided to try one for this season but just could not bring myself to do it. :)) Cheers!
Don't cut yourself short GP I sure see you doing a lot better now. Every tree is different and it takes time to get it down. But your are right, the more square you are with your back cut the better. Great video. Have a good rest of the week and weekend. 👍
Good day Gord, I laughed out loud with your hangups. I was out two days ago. Perfect sunny weather and a great day to be doing some tree cutting. Sadly the tree gods did not smile on me and gave me hangers all day. Couldn’t get a break. Good to see you out cutting and I enjoyed the video. Hopefully those nasty tree gods are kinder to us both the next time we go out.
LOL! Thanks Todd. Yup, Guy had a smirk on his face all morning and we had a good laugh. Cheers and thanks again!
Good Day GP, yes very nice April morning in deed 👌😇👍🌞 Great sence of level humor that you both have 🤣👍 Nice Tree Fell Action GP 👍😇👌🧐at 3:22 I can see that you chain is very sharp since it pull toward the tree 👌😇👍Great post analyst cut 👌😇👍Oufff a falling limb widow maker 🥴 Yes welcome into to the dangerous world of walking the tree at 8:11 🤔🥴🤣👍 Have a safe week GP and Be Well Cheers 👍👍😇😇👌👌🍻🍻
Gordon I seen you put a gallon of bar oil in. My dad stopped carrying a gallon and he would wash out a Dawn dish soap bottle. You have a built in pour spout and you never drop or lose the cap. Pull to open push to close. You also can see how low on oil you are getting. I thought it might help you.
That's a smart idea - takes up a lot less space. Thanks James (James' dad.:))!
Here I thought my late grandpa's idea of a pump dispenser on a gallon jug was good.. I like this one better yet! Never Dawned on me (pun intend lol). Seriously though, thanks for sharing because I never thought of that since the pump worked, except cold weather. Good stuff!
I am glad it helps anyone out
Good morning Gord. What a spectacular time of year to spend out in the forest. You and Guy really did a nice job felling, and learning.😁 Cheers
Hey Gord, giving a full watch. But I think I'm looking for a new saw, what do you suggest? I've been thinking of the MS250.
Ross, Joe and I have a MS 250 and It is an OUTSTANDING Chainsaw and we both had it more than 10 yrs and going strong every year !!! 👍😇👌Cheers 🍻
@@RCAFpolarexpress thanks David! Seems popular and reliable
I laughed when Guy yelled, get out of there. You guys have a great team. I wish I had a fraction of all your talents. Cheers!!
Another great video Gord!! Thanks for taking us along, I really enjoy the content and the attention to detail you have in pushing yourself to perfection. One thought if I may is instead of letting the saw dogs bite in and pivoting the bar on them try bringing your saw in to the back cut parallel to the holding wood the whole way. This should help you get a feel for the process and feel free to stop and check often like run the throttle for 1 second and stop and check. Do that until you get to where your holding wood is on one side and then plant the dog to not go any further and cut it off as can happen sometimes. I hope you stay safe and enjoy the weather!!
Thanks Daniel. I will give that a try for sure - have a great weekend!
I have trouble at times with the level of my front/back cut, that's why I like to high stump firewood trees, I can sight for level better. I've reached the age where I'm like the old fellow who, after he knelt down and tied his shoe, said: "I wonder what else I can get done while I'm down here!"
Doing a great job at that now a day gord, but I noticed one thing you should always stay behind the tree when chucking it not walk in front of it just in case, cause it can start going down and you could trip and fall and that would not be good. Anyways awesome work 👍👍😎
Great reminder - thanks!
Nice video Gord, good to get out and sharpen your skills, even the pro's don't put out their bloopers on YT, so don't feel bad and I think Guy's level is off lol. After this rain and warm weather, the fly's should be out soon along with the leaves on some trees. Cheers and have a great week and weekend.
Morning Pete. It won't be long now before we are covered in bug spray. LOL! Thanks - have a nice weekend!
Go slow think every move.
👍
Have you ever tried to roll the hang-ups with a timberjack? I saw a guy having fair results on another video, but he was working with pines. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Morning . we haven't - not sure I could roll one up - they weigh a lot but something i will mention to the guys for sure. Thanks!
No matter what Gord, the trees are down safely. How many trees did you and Guy cut down that weekend? He's going to have the winter's firewood really quick.
Morning Jerome. We only brought down about 15 or so. All hardwoods so great for filling the woodshed. Have a nice weekend!
Cut your holding wood up on your far side then cut up on the operaters side to finish. Also then you can line up your hinge better so your coming in even. And clean out any dutch man. Always look up, like way more haha stay safe out there.
Thanks!
I usually get halfway through your tree cutting videos to realise that I need to turn my volume down or go get my hearing protection. Seems like the seasons change faster watching your channel.
LOL! Cheers Tom!
Gord how many acres to you have if I may ask? Outstanding channel you have sir.
Thanks very kindly! I have about 4 myself - we were on Guy's property today - he has about 120, I believe. Thanks for watching and for the comment. :)
Who backyard are you guys on. This is lots of trees you take out. How many years are you been doing this, one day you may get right. Lol
Morning Ron. A lot of years and a lot of forest. Mother Nature does a good job of replacing them. Cheers!
Hey Gord! It looks like you do better cutting parallel to the ground when you are down on one knee doing the face cut! With all the trees around you are bound to get a few hangers! That is what a tractor is for! But a good job to leave the guys with some work to do!
Cheers and thanks Bob!
I really enjoy cutting timber. You may have a huge mess to deal with lol. But stihl a great day in the woods for you!!! Cheers
What happened to the BIG TOOL thing-a-ma-jig?
Safely in my shed waiting to get free. LOL! It would have been helpful today - just need to do my Spring cleaning. Cheers!
Guy is going to have firewood for years to come once you get those trees all bucked up .
Good job on the felling Gord .
Anytime I cut, which mostly is forested for me, I just account for the hang-ups. They simply will happen. Sure, the best maybe do it rarely but I'm not a pro or getting payed. I only care about getting out alive. Tractors or winches can take them down pretty quick and safely, if someone isn't completely inexperienced. Or my favorite trick: cut a day or two before a windy day and let nature handle it lol Glad you had a good time!
Your work may not have met your high standards, GP, but I didn’t see you crush any of your cameras. Successful day!
Since you predominantly cut tip low, I would suggest when you are set up for your cut pushing down with your right hand a little bit more. Do this until you start seeing your cuts lean the other way. This will be a muscle memory trick for you to learn.
Also, I noticed that your cuts become closer to level at waist-high or above. If you recognize that and bend more at the waist when you go below that point I think you'll be happier with the end result.
What caliber and target size are you shooting at that distance?
Good morning and thanks for advice. Will do - I am not sure about the pew pew questions - But we will do a video at some point on the range for sure. Cheers!
Do you have the skidding winch to use this season?
You bet - it got a good workout yesterday pulling all those hangers down. :)) Cheers B!
Yes, real men don't need background music to watch videos. Thanks
GP I messaged you before about your back cut and how to try to keep it level. Place a long stick/twig in the mouth of the front cut so when you stand behind you can level the saw easy looking at either end of the stick pointing out. Simple. Also kneeling down to start the cut, then stand up. Cheers from the UK.
Congrats, Gort. That first cut on the first tree looks actually horizontal. You have had troubles in the past.
I bet if you had some bigger dogs for that saw like Jacob uses in Guilty of Treason, it would be a lot easier to do your cuts just like you want.
The best way to learn and improve is doing, so good job.
A good tip to increase safety is to cut off those wood spikes that remain on the stump. Those spikes are sharp and anybody that trips and falls on them can get seriously hurt. It is not something that happens often, but why take the risk, especially when you cut down this many trees in an area. (bucking cuts them off every single time).
As for cutting level, maybe you can glue a "bulls eye level" to your saw (not on the handle) so you can check that the saw is level before you start a cut.
One I noticed on your felling notch if you make your top cut first and bottom cut second you will be less likely to pinch your bar. Great videos.

Thanks for sharing great video and very nice job falling the trees take care have a great weekend
What a great day both of you had. Great to see the two of you handling the trees and clearing out the opening for the range. Getting the big trees down safely today will allow more workers in to start the firewood gathering. Always enjoy your time in the woods working. You all stay safe and keep up the great fun you share. Fred.
Hey thanks Fred! Have a great weekend
Gord, it’s like ground hog day once again as it starts all over. Lol 😂
Looked like a whole bunch of fun. I also have a 462 and it eats wood incredibly well. I love the throttle snap the 462 has. I know how you feel Gord. I Get nervous and anxious before every cut still. Awesome video. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Mike.
Cheers Mike. I love that 462 - such a big difference. All the best!
Great video, it was really important to go back and hear you critique the cuts. That is helpful for somebody else watching. Your painting a level line was a good start and keeping parallel. You might also try to score your back cut so that it’s level before you begin and then really concentrate on going in for the Final Cut. Surprised to hear that Guy doesn’t like felling, seems like a good teacher!
Thanks ! That's a good idea - he enjoys being out there but i think they like watching me learn it. LOL. Cheers and thanks again
Not to give ya too big of a big smile but last week I picked up a brand new 462cm stihl because of your videos and I’m in love so far!
Signed, a lifelong husky owner 😊
LOL! It is a great saw so far for me. You may just park those Huskies in the shed now. :)) Cheers!
I feel your challenge. Had a crummy cut last weekend. lol. When I was done I said geeez. Then my next two were much better. Patience and planning then execution! Have a great day peoples.
Cheers Stan!
"felling trees a few times a year is like learning to ride a bike on ice" Don't remember which YT said it, but I'll never forget it.
LOL! Cheers Mitch!
Looked like great fellowship and a great day out in the woods, Gord!
Another great day in the woods. Thank you for sharing. Rather uplifting to see.
Beautiful day to be in the woods again! Enjoy it while it last!
Stay on the stump a little longer and keep cutting, so you get the rest of the far side holding wood will help. You can continue to steer them as they fall,if you don't leave the stump to quickly.👍 Thanks for sharing and hopefully some more videos of the clean up! With or without music!🤠
Oh...Give yourself some credit for having the guts to learn felling trees. I can easily list a dozen firewood channels that won't even attempt to learn or try cutting down a tree. 💪
Cheers and thanks Wayne. I always appreciate some good advice. Have a great weekend out there!
@@GPOutdoors You as well, Gord!
