    Great video Gord and the crew. You all are getting the firewood processed and put up in the sheds and almost done before the snow flies. Sure looks great up there and everyone's looking healthy. Stay safe and keep up the great videos. Fred.

    The firewood amigos have been busy stocking piling rounds. I think a few more trailers will be needed to haul those back to the wood shed.

    With all the new toys, seams like you two have been out playing instead of filling the shed of wood for the winter season.. okay just joking mate.. Hopefully, you and Carol along with the rest of the lot are doing well and having a great year. Cheers mate.

      LOL! Yup, I wish that was true. We are learning to cope and honestly, getting out in the forest with the guys is very calming for sure. Thanks for hanging in 690!

    Hey Gord, it would be really cool to get some drone footage on your videos. You have some great views during the intros! I highly recommend the mavic series. Anything less than 250g and you don’t need a license. But even the basic license is not difficult if you wanted. Cheers!

      Hey good day Derek, thanks - I did a lot of videos with footage over the last few years. I used to build and fly RC Helicopters for a lot of years until my eyes got worse. I have a couple of drones - including the mavic mini and it is great as long as there is no wind. LOL! Guy and I have pulled it down from a few trees over the years fo sure. :)) Thanks again. Perhaps I will get it out for some fall shots of the forest again. All the best!

      @@GPOutdoors hey GP, yeah the minis are quite light and prone to poor wind. I use the Mavic 2 Zoom. I use it to film blasting on the mine I work in, and for pleasure use. Ive had it up in winds as high as 40km/h. Looking forward to seeing more of your content. Just bought an lx2610 myself and the swap over videos for the blower will certainly come in handy this fall. Thanks and have a good day!

    I thought the woodshed was full to capacity this spring? Did he sell some wood to make space? Don't blame him if he did because the range has sure created alot of firewood!

      Morning Wayne. There was a fair amount of wood in there left over form last winter for sure. But Guy likes it fully topped up every year. Cheers!

    I am going to need him to keep a tally this winter,
    Of
    How many splits he averages on a weekly basis.
    When he's feeding his home after the first flakes come falling down.
    200 per week ?300 ?

      Morning Jean. That's a good question. I will try to remember to ask him if he has ever kept track. Cheers!

    Does Guy burn the fresh downed trees, or are they left to dry for next year?

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  2 місяці тому

      Morning. Ideally not but over the last few years there is wood in there not fully seasoned. So definietely a mix between the two. Have a great weekend!

    To tell how the economy is going now and the near future, just have a look at the level of stacked firewood. Like the squirrel packing away the bounty of nuts squirreling away for the anticipated cold long winter the signs are there. The wood pile seems to send the same message. just have to look at the level of stacked firewood. One thing for sure, it'll be nice and warm inside as the snow falls.

    You have spoken about how fast the trees regenerate in the past, but I’m curious as to the age of the trees you are felling. Logs those size down here are 50-60 years old! The silver maple I cut down (wind hazard) was over 100 and it was 36” diameter. Great video! Also, have you ever had a bad circumstance happen when the tree falls and you don’t record it…say a barber chair split or other such things?
    Cheers

    • @GPOutdoors
      @GPOutdoors  2 місяці тому

      Hey BLT , great questions. Yes, so not sure how old those trees might be but with 120 acres of forest, the number of trees we might fell in a given year is honestly immaterial. If the forest was small then re-planting etc may be necessary or something to consider for sure. But Guy has been here for almost 30 years working that same forest. :)) Re: the trees : if I filmed it, I always show it on videos ( good and bad fells) as I think it is important to show folks everything, in hopes that we all learn from it. But honestly, I have had a few over the years that dropped the wrong way, ( yes kind of scary for sure) and maybe 1 that may have barber-chaired ( I think) but not during filming. I don't film every day we are working the forest. I am super thankful Guy and Huskie are very experienced so when we find a split up the trunk, we will usually plunge cut it and cut it higher or lower if possible. But for sure, one thing I have been learning over the past few years is that every single tree is different and poses different risks. Thanks - great questions as always. :)
