an easy way to know what side of the disc you want to catch is to identify the side of the throwers body they threw from and match that in your catch

      Nice !
That’s something easy to teach my kids ... if necessary. Because if they do this from very young, they learn this skill almost automatically.

Rowan, this was great. These are subtle tips that non club players would pick up on. More of these would be great.

In French we call the side of the frisbee that spins away from you the 'côté lapin' (rabbit side), courtesy of a Québecois guy named Sebastien Labbé (now coaching in Belgium it seems) who even did a math/physics analysis of the phenomenon. I also coach that if the disc stays on the same side from thrower to catcher (i.e. like a pass to the open side) then you need to go further to catch on the 'sticky' side but if the disc crosses from one side to another (i.e.. like an inside out break throw) the 'sticky' side is closer.

This is really good content... I don't think many people intrinsically know to do this but know I've seen it explained it's going to be so easy to include into throwing sets.

Would love to see this for catches above the head when your thumb is inside/under the rim.

Great video!. One suggestion, when you make a video that is all happening on one side of you, stand closer to the other side of the frame so that there is more frame devoted to the action.

I noticed this on a right handed flick going to my left (facing the thrower). If I run across the field and can barely get my fingers on it - there's absolutely no way to secure it. Maybe laying out with a trailing edge grab right handed woulda solved this problem - if only I could do that. There's some where that expression: If you can touch it, you shoulda caught it, is definitely not true. At least it was untrue - until now. Thanks Rowan. I might play with the trailing edge grabs just to see how easy / hard they are - done correctly.

Yes what you said makes a lot of sense, and a lot of people go through it! Good luck with the new techniques :)

I love the format for these kinds of videos but, The only downside is not being able to show in-game usage to demonstrate better how to use the technique in-game. Also, close up slow motion can be helpful to really show the technique. The bonus hopefully is more content which is great so either way, it works.

Good points! That is definitely a downside, I love the game clips too. I'll try to balance them out

Or you can just overhand, its easier to tilt your hand so it slows down the disc spinning either way
