  • In this video I show you how I use my scrappy stash to make my 16" Scrappy Crossroads Block. This tutorial is the first in my "Sew Your Stash Series"
During my series I will be sewing different blocks using fabrics that I have in my scrappy stash baskets.
For this block I am working out if my 2 1/2" and 5" Scrappy Stash Baskets.
Also for this series I'll be sharing with you how and why I build and use my stash, and how I shop for fabric and use my leftovers. I hope you enjoy!

I prefer this method as well! I saw one where they are a 16 pc patchwork, and then they added the rest, same result, but I do prefer this!

All quilters have their own styles though they may use blocks that have existed for years. I like watching various quilters as I get to see different quilts which are of great quality and beauty. Lori Holt has her own style too and I like the quilt she makes. This new video channel is going to be great too.

Hello from Maine. Lori, I remember several years back going to a large fair in New Hampshire with a DIL, whom I had taught how to quilt. There happened to be several quilts made which I remember as being reminiscent of your Farm Girl quilts. Each had their own delightful personalized touches. We lingered there awhile and just enjoyed.
Several days ago I saw the #13 video in your series pop up which I watched because I love log cabin blocks. I absolutely loved the video . Since I’m a retired registered nurse and quite organized I have a similar system as yours but tailored to my smaller space. Happy I finally came up with one that works well for my but I always seen to come up with a nugget or two from watching other quilters. I made 2 design bards for myself but really love your finishing touch around the edges, just need to get some rubber fingers before tackling that project. (and never knew about silicon fingers before your video).
I loved #13 so much that I’m going to enjoy the entire series as I’m a dedicated scrap quilter. I enjoy an occasional jelly roll but my main love affaire is scrap quilts. Think I got it from sleeping under my Grandma Knowles quilts in the unheated 2nd floor of their farmhouse. One of my favorite memories. And she belonged to the grange so I was able to visit and help her in the days leading up their small town yearly fair. I thank you for your time and your passion for quilting. I know it takes time to prepare and publish videos and I for one am truly appreciative. Love from Maine.

I am very much a novice quilter and just made this block, it's my first ever quilt block so I am quite proud. Although it has MANY MANY faults I know learning has taken place and I will keep practising before I dare to use any of my new Lori Holt fabric! Now I need a little fabric roller in my life for the seams!!!

I had several fat quarters I wanted to use up but lacked the proper pattern for them. I tried them in one and they just didn't work. When I came across this pattern it was GOLD! I've been working in it this weekend for a summer picnic quilt for my little grandchildren, 6, 4, and 1. They'll be over in the morning to see if the size needs to be added to or just completed. I've made it five by five blocks plus borders. Thank you for sharing this pattern!

This was the first video I watched Lori actually sew. And I absolutely love that she does not have a fancy new computerized sewing machine. I always feel so left behind, watching videos with the automatic back stitch and thread cutter, or all the other fancy gizmos. But if Lori can do it without all the bells and whistles, maybe I can too!

    • @LoriHolt
      @LoriHolt  4 роки тому +2

Thank you!! You certainly can do it:) I love to use my featherweight for piecing...it just has a straight stitch which is all you need for that. When I do machine quilting or need a “fancy” stitch I use my Bernina ❤️

Beautiful quilts were made by hand and treadle machines you can make quilts anyway you like that’s what’s so awesome about it. It was always a case of make do with what you had.
I read somewhere a feedsack company that made flour found out women were using the sacks to make clothes. So they started making them with pretty prints which is where we get the gorgeous 1930s prints we all love. 💕 log cabins were used to show signals quilt history is very interesting good luck with it. Hand work is very therapeutic if you want to give it a go. Just a needle and thread and 1/4 inch ruler plus fabric and pencil is all you need

Thank you for making this video and showing us your scrap storage system! It has inspired me to implement the same system, which I can tell is very efficient and minimizes wastage. I also really appreciate you showing us your work space setup and sewing techniques using a camera angle that allows me to see things being done from the sewer's viewpoint/perspective. (i.e facing their machine and projects). I love that you were able to demonstrate your workspace setup - designed incredibly well to maximize the amount of piecing, ironing, HST and folded corners done per unit time. It is so much faster without having to get out of your sewing chair to iron, trim, etc. Just doing this alone would triple my speed. I'm looking forward to your future tips and tricks in upcoming videos! Thank you again for your generosity in taking the time to do make these tutorial videos. I know that I and other viewers will gain very useful knowledge and skills as we view each one!

Thank you. Really enjoying your new UA-cam videos. I need to get busy and cut all of my leftover fabrics into usable sizes.Right now they are stored in 2-gallon plastic bags by color and stored inside bins under my work tables. Not ideal since the bins are heavy. Trying to figure out a better way to store them. Certainly cutting them to various sizes should help reduce some of the weight. At least that's my hope. I love the quilt block you made in the video. Seeing it in a full quilt is very inspiring. Definitely on my list of quilts to make.

Lori, I can't believe I have not watched your You Tube videos before this. I'm a first timer. What a great video! I love that you don't yell at us while your teaching. Your skills for teaching one of my favorite blocks was so through and complete. You can bet I'll be seeing more of your videos for I just subscribed. I already have a number of your patterns and books.

Love this video and looking forward to watching many more! So happy you have a UA-cam channel now. Your closet and scrap storage baskets system is amazing. I would say I want to be you when I grow up but since I'm sure that I'm much older than you don't think that will happen! Lol
