Having watched most of this, now I can say these commentators are absolutely wonderful, very insightful, easy pleasing delivery, a perfect match to this legendary race.
Thank you Peter Shipway. Your commentary is so insightful for me, a non-sailor. The broadcast is a highlight of my Boxing Day with you in it. Not to mention Gordon Bray's work.
I race on Lake Michigan. But, I can't wait for this race every year. Going to solo sail around the world when I turn 60. Can't wait, and I will be in Sydney to watch the start in person when I do. Much love from Michigan USA. Godspeed to the fleet. May you enjoy a fast, smooth run! Aussie Aussie Aussie
What a great event. Every time they come close, my mind goes into collision mode and I am trying to tack my couch. I rarely sail near other boats, so this gives me a chance to virtually practice my COLREGS. Bill - SY Amargosa - Pangkor Island Malaysia⛵
Enjoying the reply early in the morning from Delray Beach FL USA. I used to live in Coogee Beach so this brings back memories of watching from the heads as the race sailed by. I miss OZ!!!
Good commentary as usual from Gordon and Peter but whoever was in charge of the camera feeds was way off. Missed all the important cross tacks and mark roundings, the drama on WildThing, etc. Maybe they don’t understand yacht racing. As a result the commentators were often left floundering as to what to commentate on. There’s always next year to try to get it right.
There is a yacht with Active in the title. Is there any connection with the yacht Active that took part in 1947? I sailed on her in the 1971 Cape to Rio. She is now lying somewhere in South Africa dying a slow death unless someone can save a beautiful yacht.
George might have been 2 seconds late to fire the gun, but I have been racing in my boat next to him and heard how he would be cursing his crew for being 2 seconds late to the start line....
Disappointing coverage on Ch9 compared to past years. Strangely unsatisfying. Lots of ads. Lacked time, order and coverage of the fleet. Plus onboard commentary that gives insight.
I don't agree!! This year there have been many more images of boats more similar to mine, a 34-foot cruiser, than images and images of the big giants, which are very pretty but are not what interests me the most. I have seen solutions and rigs from skippers that I can apply to my boat, sails similar to mine, resources similar to mine, etc. Not only the big supermaxis or maxis compete... There are many more boats from sailors more similar to me and my boat. This is the edition that I have enjoyed the most of all that I have seen in recent years. With love, from Barcelona, Spain.
Is the footage getting worse? Much focus on about a half dozen boats, and maybe a total of a half dozen minutes on the two front runners. Have enjoyed your other footage recently but this was less than appointing. On the other hand the audio commentary seemed better this year than in past years.
The coverage is pretty poor compared to previous years, unfortunately. No on-boat footage, several incidents are MIA, and generally just not the usual sense of excitement. It’s Channel 9’s maiden year, so maybe they’ll improve over time.
Love to see Lisa keeping busy while Sail GP is waiting on their respeccing. Sydney-Hobart is tied for my favorite open water race along with the Fastnet. I've done the Hardway and a bunch of Pacifc Corinthians, but I'd love to do some real ocean racing someday.

Having competed in the 2016 race this live coverage brings back great memories-truly one of the best classic races!
Great commentary as always guys. I was on the line in 2000 and the memories keep coming.
Enjoying the replay from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Thankyou.

well done Peter Shipway and Gordon Bray, brilliant commentary to brilliant pictures. Well done all
Was a great start enjoyed every bit of it. Thanks for the Coverage.
One of the classics of sailing, the 628 mile race from Sydney to Hobart. Many small boats are owned by families, not millionaires.
Fantastic commentary gentlemen, thank you

great coverage
Let's goooooo, great coverage. How and the world can a boat the quality of Law Connect have such a devastating sail problem 2 years in a row.
Watching from Japan goodluck centennial 7🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭

Agreed. This drove me crazy! Also, cutting to the cannon firing for the start… who cares!? Show the damn boats!
Crazy how small the tp52 look next to the giants...impressive sailing in great conditions !!
What are the hf marine frequencies being used in this race to listen for?
They’re probably on starlink or similar nowadays. HF is probably only distress 🤷♂️
A monohull got line honours? Amazing work! I thought those were obsolete!
A bit different to sailing on the Norfolk Broads! Amazing sight!
Well done to the CYCA. Great coverage
Rip to the pair that passed away
I can smell the sea salt ! :) great commentary...
What is the square-rig ship (bark?) sailing under topsails?
James Craig
James Craig
Love it
When do the multihulls start?
The best ever love it
Yes, GO FIKA .........⛵
Rip to the guys that passed away during the race
The bigger boats have a distinctive energy; but all the charm is reserved for the smaller, older craft.

Captain Cook never sailed into Sydney Harbour.
Ooh yes he did! You need to read the secret journals, designed to confuse the French 😂
Too many lawyers in the race. The commentator keeps referring to Mistral as mis-trial.
I have a Farr 1104 winner of Sydney Hobart 1976. In the Puget Sound. Video on my channel.
George might have been 2 seconds late to fire the gun, but I have been racing in my boat next to him and heard how he would be cursing his crew for being 2 seconds late to the start line....
Big motor yachts vs small engine boats. how is it a fair race?
Paul McCartney in Porco Rosso? 🤣 I hope he wins!
Cheers from Brazil!
Start I'm gmt? International TV channel?
What no comments, come on team!

Go COMANCHE!🛶🪓🏹
Where's Gunrunner?
Not a single mention.
Not one mention of the vendee globe or pip hare
David Gilmour aboard..... I wonder if he brought a guitar??

I really missed the girl and the camera man jumping off the boat out in the ocean after the onboard coverage. That was always a highlight. 😀

What a spectical seeing all thoughs spinnakers as they leave Sydney Harber.

Still no multis - unlike every other offshore race - as they know the race record will get obliterated…
Law Connect suffering
Sorry, the greatest race is the Fastnet
Poor video quality - I know it's "high definition", but it's very poor high definition.
The Fastnet is the premier race! More boats, more crew, Aussie bull shite! What about Vaude Globe? Beats Sydney Hobart into the weeds.
Shamelessly tacky to advertise one’s tawdry legal services on one’s foresail…
Worse tv coverage of the race start ever. Abysmal!
CHANNEL 9 WORST TEELCAST EVER.. IF YOU NOT IN A CYC BOAT AN OLD...YOUR NOT IN THE FLEET
