“You know hammers are supposed to be made of ash or hickory, right!?” *insert Jimmy’s baby voice*
Sweet handle and love the new colorful background, too!
I've had my foredom for about 20 years, and love it. My wife does glass engraving, and a dremel was never really much of an option. We've basically rebuilt the thing a couple of times, but that's one of the great things about foredom. Parts are available, and are super reasonably priced.
Keep up the great work!
I love how there are defined eras in your making experience, with changes in the products as your aesthetic design preferences change.
RESPECT THE FLEX SHAFT TOOL! Extremely versatile and under respected.
I am glad you wanted to have fun in the shop. I love to have fun in the shop. Thank you for sharing your video.
That drill press just put me into space ship mode, all on it's own. The music edit was great too! :)
6:19 I love the shout out to your older videos. I found that song because of you and I still listen to it!
Really enjoyed the relaxed/chill vibe with the music and edit on this one. Felt super fresh.
You've inspired me to think about working some texture into some future projects.
Doesn't anyone want to know the WAY he shouldn't have used it?
I think he used it for metalworking? I seem to remember something to that effect from the podcast.
I do!
I love seeing the harbor freight clamps among all your expensive tools, I also love seeing that harbor freight spindle sander. Can't beat that sander for the price and yes you can never have enough clamps. Those are the best bang for your buck clamps out there. I have a ton of them. Keep the videos comming and thanks for making them, you are a true craftsman.
This video got me thinking about the hammers I played with in my dad's shop growing up. There were about four with their own personalities. I remember them in a way I do not remember other tools. You made a memorable hammer. I hope its ugliness endures both in use and in memory.
I like the way you think! Thanks Kip!
First video i have seen since hearing of you while listening to making it. I got say the beautiful backgrounds, cool work table, tight editing and just general good vibes make me want to binge a whole lot more of this channel :) thanks for all your hard work
That's really cool. I love that you just wanted to have fun.
A hammer so sharp you can apparently shave with it! Nice work, David!
I would love to see a video on the rotary tool.
Very cool design most definitely unique. Keep up the great craftsmanship and hard work my friend. Keep Making. God Bless.
David. Love the editing and general style of the video. The handle is not something I’d put on my hammers, nor are the aesthetics of your shop what I’d choose for mine; but that all being the case, I like what I like and you like what you like and that’s great we all can be different. I love the composition of the video and if you look at you video as the end project, I think it’s wonderful.
Nice handle, David. I love the fact that you just want to have fun in your shop. After all, that's what it's all about, isn't it? Take care.
Bill
A polka dot handle. Every time I think I have seen it all ... you rock.
You look like Papa Smurf. Too Funny
I was thinking Richard Dreyfus in Jaws.
@@bobt2522 I can see that.
David, I really enjoy your narration on videos mixed in with the upbeat audio you usually throw in for your montages, but this 3 1/2 minutes + of soothing chill music was a nice mixup and just want I needed today :). I completely just zoned out and got lost in watching you do your thing. Thanks man! Love the handle! Use it "properly" this time!
Thank you
Love the texture. Also I caught you in your sanding...
😉
Your hammer, your Handel, your shop. Trolls will be Trolls! Nicely
done David.
Great work! Nice work on the music.
I don't think it's ugly at all - the dowel pattern matches the circle design on your work surface, and the colours go well together. I'm also really enjoying the texturing you've started doing on some of your projects, it's making me want to get the Dremel out! I have to say though... I can't be the only one wondering how the original handle got broken!
My father, who is a jeweller and a goldsmith uses Foredom products. They make quality stuff.
I like this handle. I'm sure that this is just like the hammer that Thor or Dangerous Dan had when they were toddlers.
I'd like to see you carve a few things. How about a cool walking stick??
Nice video. Great detail on the handle, looks fancy. Mahalo for sharing!🙂🐒
I love that you are just making stuff ‘cause it’s just...there.
I've been on a kick recently to rehandle some of my hammers as well.
Are you spying on my security cameras?
I don't consider is spying. It's more like we're hanging out but you don't know I'm there.
@@MakeSomething This is everything I want from a UA-camrs comment. :D Love ya Dave. 🍑
Love the style of this video and how Make Something is evolving
I'd say you handled that pretty well. No reason why something functional can't also be an art piece. Thanks for sharing!
Dave, you doing okay, man? You seem...down. Just not as chipper I’m used to. Hope everything's good, man.
I definitely would love to see you do a video doing some carving with that new tool!
You are just too cool man. Great video as always. Love the vibe in this one. Cool idea for a hammer handle. Oh and the colors in the shop just blow my mind each time I see them. I love your concept on your shop being fun and creative. You nailed it dude !
It looks greats! Love the design and texture!
I think the handle is cool but I just kept thinking your outfit made me think of one of the pirates from Peter Pan
Smitty!!! (Pronounced - "Shmee")
Oh man! I LOVE the new set, video and edit styles! REALLY looks good! Also, I just got a Foredom SR myself for jewelry work, I have been very happy with it so far.
I love it! Great colors, fun texture fun video. I got hammered!
Very unique, I love it David!
That's a great looking hammer. The new handle reminds me of a cold, shriveled hot dog though. 😣🤣
We all have used tools the wrong way. Nice save.
You have my favorite UA-cam channel.
I like that you tried to preserve continuity by wearing the same shirt but you shaved your beard!
4:20 [Sarcasm voice] You need a hammer to make a hammer...
Really nice results on this one!
Never burn out a handle. Things like hammers and axes are hardened so you will lose the temper by throwing them in a fire.
Really? A wood fire? So why don't we use wood fires to temper or harden the tools in the first place? Why do we have to put them in a forge, and not just in a wood fire?
There are plenty of reasons to use coal over wood as a fuel source in a forge. None of those reason are because a wood fire isn’t capable of getting hot enough. Following your logic you could replace the word wood with coal and say the same thing in comparison to propane.
I use dremels all the time, but the limit in bit size has me curious. My dremel is my right hand man of tools. I have the hand grip and the pen grip attachment I have wanted for 20 years for easier glass etching. I would be interested in a rotatry tool comparison video, or just an over view to what you switched to if you make that video.
6:18 Dang that's a good sander. :)
round peg in a round hole impressive ; )
Really awesome work, Dave! 😃
You know, before the pandemonium I used to go to a fair here in my city, where people used to buy and sell absolutely everything! From living chickens to electronics! 😂
I used to see lots of old tools there and I want to get something to restore and make a handle, but... Until this stops... No way. 😕
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
It's only ugly if you think a hammer is beautiful in the first place. I personally love it! It now has character.
I don’t mind the weakness. It’s way cooler than the original. And on the plus side: You inspired me to do the same. I’m going to take out my dremel and change my hammers like that too.
When you were talking about the Fordham and needing “more power”, I swear I heard it in Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor’s voice...followed by “Argh, argh, argh!”
Wow David I'm really glad I can't grow a beard that fast, there one moment and gone the next !! Cost a fortune to maintain it!! As always buddy 💯% 👍 🇬🇧.
Very good video, good content, master 👍🏻
Like the idea, but as an industrial designer i think you weakened the handle alot by drilling into it almost through to the edges and then doweling it up.
Looks good but a couple of hard hits and it ll break again...
Super
I’m digging it! It’s kind of like a sword hilt
That’s a cool hammer handle. I’m in the process of making a hammer handle on the lathe.
Thanks for watching! I've make a playlist of my favorite woodworking projects: ua-cam.com/play/PLhqK_8dnaIW3V6a66AdyRI9DJUZwCSm83.html
Nailed it.
Hey Bro, although you said you were just trying to have fun, didn’t seem like you were having a lot of fun. You seemed a little off in this one mate. Hope you’re travelling ok mate..hey also no need to justify your reasoning for anything..you do you mate. This is why I keep coming back, your projects are always interesting and your delivery is world class.. nearly 1 Million Subscribers think the same..
I bet you were using as a razor when you broke it.
Keep up the great work I love your humor and awesome content.
Loved the timber combo, the texture and finish, not so much.
Seeing the thumbnail, I thought the texture was going to be some sandblasting technique. Was thinking of trying that on an upcoming project, but now a new grinding tool may be in my future...
Groovy man....
I think it looks great!
Also bye bye winter beard?
Wow, looking good with that clean face! You look so much younger and thinner.
Hey guys, I've been looking into making a wooden barrel style mug complete with rings. I'm aware how a normal barrel is charred to get the wood to bow in the correct way. Do you guys have any tips on how I'd be able to make one without building a small cooperage? Any reply is appreciated.
- Ollie :D
Love your work! Beautiful
no beard to beard in 2.5 seconds??? amazing!
Beard magic!
This would have been a good opportunity to test the belief that wood glue bonds stronger than the original wood. You could have glued it back together like you would any other two pieces of wood. Then put it back into normal service and monitor how it holds up to regular use. A hammer handle should have to endure much more stress than any normal wood join.
This was a fun video to watch. It was entertaining to read the comments too. Nobody was hateful, but a lot of people did not like your decisions on this project. Is it possible that you were trolling for the trolls?
A simpler cure is to wrap bailing wire closely and tightly from the bottom of the hammer head past the crack. In fact if you do that upon purchase you solve the problem from ever occurring.
First you misuse the hammer, then the drill bit. Goodness man, those thinks make heat spinning in the wood even when it is no longer cutting. Beautiful hammer.
your new grinding machine is it foot powered or electric?
Electrical, but has a pedal switch for easy use. Much like a sewing machine.
Would make an interesting knife handle...
I would prefer a solid handle with correctly oriented grain for a hammer..
What bandsaw blade do you use on your bandsaw?
Just curious... 6 months later... How has that gorgeous handle held up?
Pretty good actually. Still using it!
Awesome. I'm a chef by trade and fiddle around in the workshop in my spare time. I have a super old meat mallet I've been wanting to rejuvenate and it desperately needs a new handle
Pfeil - pronounced, fail, fale etc
Does the engraving work make for a good grip on the handle?
Ahh, thanks! Yes it does.
8:03 YOU DOING IT WRONG !!!!!!!!!!
JUST KIDDING ! GR8 WORK MATE ! GREETINGS FROM POLAND !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
Did you do it wrong? I don't know. But it looks like it was fun. Ain't that the point?
seeing a video on the sr thing would be cool. I barely know wtf to do with a dremel lol
Make a video with the carver we will watch it
The handle looks like Mr. Peanut.
“I used it in a way I should not have.”
::Tries to clean lawn mower blades while running with hammer::
hahaha!
Has anyone made a "it's hammer time" Joke yet?
Only us people over 40. 😁
Ooof that flex with the gorilla tape made me start to sweat.
great music
Did anyone notice he didnt have a beard at 1st then he had one right after he deops the hammer head on the ground 😆 lol
The sponsor should have been dollar shave club
😁
Is it wrong of me to say that a few puffs 🌿💨 before watching this would have been amazing?
Okay look, asthetically is looks beautiful, and your video is very well done.... but I'm sorry I just can't get past this holes weakening the handle, along with Walnut not being the best wood for the job. Regardless I really did enjoy your video.
Give me a song or rhythm
Making them sweat, that's what I'm giving them
Now, they know
You talk about the Hammer
When you're talkin 'bout a show
That's hyped and tight
Singers are sweatin'
So pass them a wipe or a tape
To learn
What it's gonna take in the 90's to burn
The chart's legit
Either work hard or you might as well quit
Is this the first, second or _turd_ handle you've made for this hammer 😁 😁😁
David! I can see your face!!
I need to know. How the hell did you break that thing? I've never seen a hammer broken like that.
Hmm, listen to the podcast, or watch Davey's video?
The foredom looks kinda like an IV bag hung like that
Ha! Yes!
After saying he didn't want to talk about how the hammer was broken I was expecting a clip.
