    Thankyou for this video. I toured this museum 30 years ago and was really disappointed 2 weeks ago to find that it was gone. The boat has been moved to the new museum, but that wing of the museum is not open. So the boat has not been seen by the public for 3-4 years.

    I just found out that this boat exists. As somebody who has studied history my entire life it never ceases to amaze me how much more is out there that we don't know. You can study forever and they would still be a million things you would never know. It would take a thousand people studying and sharing their information all day long for you to really be up to speed!

    It's fine and delicate like a dead
    frond that's dropped off a date palm growing on the edge of the Nile and that now glides smoothly along it. Even the oars are shaped like leaves. It was probably once someone's Ferrari docked on a private pier just outside their luxury villa.

    Can you even wrap your head around how old this boat is? We are closer in time to cleopatra than she was to this boat. When the romans were ruling this boast was 2000 years old. The fact is so preserved is crazy. We literally have nothing from human civilization this far back but here is a full boat in amazing condition.

    • @44divar
      @44divar 3 роки тому

      So agree with you, just imagine, but really almost impossible. It is in great condition. I did see the “Jesus Boat” that was found when Sea of Galilee was low, and when I saw that, it had just been taken out of a special solution which was to preserve the boat’s wood otherwise it would crumble after opposed to the air. I love seeing this stuff, so I sure wish I got to see the one by the pyramid. I was in Giza November 1998, going into pyramid. We didn’t see this museum then, nor did our tour guide mention it. We did see a lot of people behind the sphinx area but were told it was some temple area thingie.

    There are three more boat pits surrounding the base of the pyramidal Giza. This is the only one to be excavated and reassembled.
    There are other boat pits at other pyramidal locations. The Egyptian ship building yard has also been discovered.

    *What a great example of archeological work,* the boat was respected, left where it was found, assembled carefully and nothing was added to make it look “perfect”, and the building is just designed to show the boat as is, no fancy pictures decor or lighting so that you can really appreciate it for what it is. Immagine if this was done in countries like Turkey that leave incredible things like this to rot outside and get graffiti and human feces and detritues thrown upon them.

      Apparently, they had access to bitumen, pitch. "Bitumen was used in Antiquity as a sealant (for ceramic pots, baskets and boats), an adhesive (for jewellery, tools and masonry), a varnish (for wood, stone and metal), fuel and medicine (Nissenbaum 1978). One of the more renowned uses of bitumen was as a preservative for mummies in ancient Egypt (Bahn 1992)."

    It's a beautiful piece of craftsmanship but the ship of the king who built the greatest monument the world has ever seen, I highly doubt considering every other funerary item is highly ornate . This ship looks more like something that would be used to transport goods, and materials to workers they already know there were water ways built to the pyramids for transport of materials . It was more likely left by workers as a time capsule ,remember we are only shown what they want us to see . But this is only my opinion that doesn't make it correct either we all can only guess .

    • @Coinz8
      @Coinz8 2 роки тому

      It was used to transport his body, not a daily sailer. It was buried because old kingdom religion believed that the king would need his boat to sail off with the sun god.
