  • I like boxing. I need to exercise more. I always wanted to have a heavy bag and now I have one. No more excuses! In this video, I unbox the Everlast 100 lb Vintage Heavy Bag Kit. There are links here in the description and those also include the hardware I used to mount it to the wall. In my journey to turn my garage into a workshop for any type of DIY, Woodworking and other projects, I wanted to have a space to workout. So this is, in my opinion, the perfect solution! I also used 3/4" plywood to mount it to the wall.

    have you found that it feels too low? I’m considering hanging mine the same way beneath a garage door rail, but i think at a minimum you want the top of the bag to be eye level, if not quite a bit higher?

      Hi Kurt, yeah I agree. I am 6’1” and it is definitely too low for me. I have not done it yet but I will probably move it to a different part of the way in my garage.

    I want to install same one , my only concern is the wall 🧱 is brick not concrete, 40kg bag .i dont want to ruin the wall with cracks or anything, and i dont want the mount to fail from hitting vibration

      That’s a good point. I can’t really answer that but would suggest doing some research on UA-cam of people who explain how to anchor things like that in brick. You may be able to but I’m not really sure.

      Thanks, KD. Honestly, I think I should have used some heavier boards, instead of plywood but yeah, I usually learn as I go. Trying to live up to my channel name 😂

    What is the beeping tool called? How did you find the right spot on the wall?

    • @UseWhatchaGot

      Hi Asher, it is a stud finder so I’m trying to find the studs in the wall so that I can drive the 4 inch nails into them.

    • @UseWhatchaGot

      So I have actually taken it down and do not use it anymore. But this was due to the fact that I have wood above it on shelves, the garage door track was too low so the bag is wasn't high enough for me, and the wall itself was not very strong. All things that only really effect me.
      I would say if those were not factors, it would have been great! I would suggest to get larger, thicker pieces of maybe 2x6 or 2x8 pieces of wood, and not use plywood. It will be much stronger. But if you can screw those into your studs with 4" screws, then screw your bag hanger into the wood, it is solid! Shouldn't have any issues.

    how do you make sure your screw holes are completely straight? I failed completely on my first attempt into my concrete wall in my room

    • @UseWhatchaGot
      @UseWhatchaGot  Рік тому +1

      That is tough. You could make a wood template for your drill bit to go through, you could keep a speed square against your wall and drill. This could be an option and would definitely help keep it straight - amzn.to/3EJk9nN

    • @UseWhatchaGot
      @UseWhatchaGot  2 роки тому

      Mat, thanks for the question! I was able to shoot the screws right into studs, but if you are mounting yours in brick, I think you may need wedge anchors. They need to be pretty beefy and heavy duty. Check out this link - www.homedepot.com/c/ab/types-of-masonry-and-concrete-anchors/9ba683603be9fa5395fab905fbe9e2f hope that helps!!

    • @UseWhatchaGot

      What may be easier and more sturdy is get some like 2x6s, cut them similar to what I did with the wood backing, then once you have that wood mounted on the wall, then screw your heavy bag mount into that wood.

  • @NevetsM

    at 4:39 - Are you drilling the mount into the wall studs? I wasn't sure

    • @UseWhatchaGot
      @UseWhatchaGot  Рік тому +1

      I was not, the weight was being held up by the plywood - So I put 4” screws through the plywood into the studs, then put the lag bolts through the mount into the plywood. I think the works well, but I would suggest not using plywood. I would suggest a heavier duty board like this - www.homedepot.com/p/WeatherShield-2-in-x-6-in-x-12-ft-2-Prime-Pressure-Treated-Ground-Contact-Southern-Pine-Lumber-2331255/206889270
      My other issue was that I put it on a wall that was under the garage door track, as well as I have a ton of lumber hanging on racks right over that. Both were bad ideas. The whole wall flexed when I would hit the bag and I thought the wood would fall right off the well. And on top of that, the bag was too low.

    Did you use any screw anchors?

    • @UseWhatchaGot
      @UseWhatchaGot  29 днів тому +1

      Hi James, I put fairly heavy duty 4 inch screws through the plywood directly into my studs. Then I use the lag bolts that came with the hanger to screw into the plywood. So no, I did not use any anchors. My only suggestion would be to not use plywood and buy, a 2 x 10 or something like that. That extra thickness will really help support the bag.

    • @jameswhite249

      @@UseWhatchaGot the actual mount is just screwed into the plywood? Not studs behind the wall?

    • @UseWhatchaGot
      @UseWhatchaGot  27 днів тому

      Yes sir. It was ok, but the whole wall moved when I hit the bag, so I moved it. There is also a ton of wood on that wall, so that was just a bad place and because of the garage door railing, it was too short. But definitely try and get it into studs if you can. I think tho, if you put the lag bolts into 1 1/2 - 2” wood, you’ll be ok.

      @@UseWhatchaGot should I use lag screws for the mount and for the 2x4? Or use wood screws for putting the 2x4 in the wall

    • @UseWhatchaGot
      @UseWhatchaGot  19 днів тому

      @jameswhite249 I would get lag bolts, if i did it again. Last thing you want is for it to fall down. But I happen to have 4” screws on hand, so I used those for the plywood.

    Why the wood planks when going into the studs?

    • @UseWhatchaGot
      @UseWhatchaGot  Рік тому +1

      You definitely need something more sturdy, even more so than even plywood. I think by putting several screws into your studs, then a few into the wood holding the bag up, distributes the weight better

    • @UseWhatchaGot
      @UseWhatchaGot  2 роки тому

      Hi Tony, I think I may have used 3” screws, but I would suggest going a little more beefy with some 4”. Also, I would not suggest using plywood. Get some 1 or 2 by material for some extra strength.
