Thanks for this video. Wish I was as confident with my car repairs. Am not there for sure yet.

Great video, and nice to hear about XDP. Regarding the rated output coming in at 7500 rpm, you will indeed get that easily. That figure is alternator rpm, not engine rpm. On the 7.3 the alternator is spinning at about 3 times engine rpm, depending on the diameter of the alternator pulley. Could be a little more or less, but roughly 3X.

I just subscribed to your channel, great content I'm trying to learn more about upgrading my alternator and learn my about using and connecting solar systems on my vehicles I use my truck for a hot shot so I run a lot of different items that require drawing a lot of power running extra batteries and solar panels will help thanks for the good content

Nice video, I'm thinking about upgrading to this alternator in my 2000 7.3. How has it been running so far?

It seems like you are running a stock wiring harness outside of the adapter piece. Have you run into any fuses or fuseable links blowing as a result of the higher amps that this sends? Thanks. I have a 4x4 7.3l bus as well.

I am, so far so good. but I have aspirations of replacing them along with the main battery cables. hopefully moveing the front battery back to the back with the frame mounted one. I will have 4x4 one day soon I hope

Was that engine rpm or alternator rpm I would think the later.. because who would install that in a car to test and then take it back out It is
probably a bench test direct drive.

Hey man, nice install video, I'm looking at getting a high amp alt as well for my 1995 E350 camper van, I've taken mine off before for other reasons but I saw the ratchet you had where you spin the thing on the end of the handle, what is that called and where did you get it, I neeed one of those!

Did you ever end up upgrading your wiring? And had this alternator held up for you? I have the same van, and my stock alt is starting to go. Looking to upgrade.

I got another one for ya, are you running any extra batteries for onboard power? Lights, winch, utilities? I am and I don't want to melt any wiring if I upgrade the alternator but not immediately the wiring too.

If you want 200+ amps at dead idle, and 270+ at rpm, a large case hairpin for about $170 will spank this overpriced turd of an alternator. Xdp is great, they have been awesome in fact, to me. They do diesel parts, not electrical. All that is outsourced, marked up and not a good value. The main alternator from a 6.4 truck will fit these, and the 6.0, and make this alternator look like child's play, at dead idle, with the stick large pulley. These alta do 250a hot, all day long. Less mechanical input, to generate more electrical output. The diode pack is super beefy, 12 50a diodes, pressed into finned aluminum heatsinks, which are cooled with the internal fan. The most robust alternator you can hang on these trucks. More power, more reliable, and half the cost of this unit.
Just saying. Do your research. You'll see I'm right on the $. I paid $150 for mine, prices have gone up. I'd expect around $200 or less, shipped, tax paid, out the door
