The reason that Disney can now use the image of Oswald the Rabbit, sell shirts and dolls of it, etc, is because in 2006, NBC/Universal traded (yes, traded) the rights to Oswald to Disney in exchange for the Sportscaster Al Michaels (who had been working Monday Night Football games for ABC). At that point, Michaels and his on-air partner John Madden began doing Sunday Night Football games on NBC.
10:52 Is that Michaels announcing on the radio?
Thanks for the info. I WAS wondering how they got to use Oswald after he said Universal kept the rights to him.
@@longbowshooter5291 They could also have waited till (I think) 2018 for Oswald to enter the public domain.
Still annoyed that there’s not enough Oswald stuff tho, outside Epic Mickey.
Oswald was traded for Al Michaels so who won the trade 🤣
Be neat to see Oswald & Mickey stand at the same time on their side of the crosswalk
Does anyone else wanna see a picture of Oswald and Mickey waving at each other from their respective sides of the cross walk? That would be amazing!
More Bueba Vista, Please!
Meeeee!🙋🏾♂️
...or staring each other down across the demilitarized zone... 😀
Kinda makes me think of that guard station between North and South Korea where people wave at each other.
Staring at each other like soldiers at the border between north and south Korea.
Not allowed to say , who had the actual copy right to MM …..wD saw it on a train . Look it up . Buried the guy in law soot
being wheelchair bound has its moments that really cause me to get down, right now is one of those times. your message was very special to me seeing how ive been doubting my importance. i wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart
You are so welcome
Always remember... Jesus loves you 🙏
@@memikel1489this is the single most heartless thing to say. Christians are the absolute worst. If your Jesus were real and did love anyone, people wouldn't need wheelchairs. Your Jesus either doesn't exist, hates some--or all--people, or is pretty incompetent.
Imagine how different Disneyland would be if he was able to keep his first character, Oswald. The first Disney character. Love him
More more part 2/3
Imagine how different Disneyland would be if Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks remained friends and work partners.
I don't think that Micky would have been created.
@@MachineEarth Considering that Mickey is basically just a "just different enough to not be an IP infringement" character, he probably wouldn't.

When you were talking about the special people. My son was like, "That's me. He's talking about me." With agreat big smile on his face. Thank you.
Of course and I was. 💙💚💙💚
One of my clients, when I was a custom woodworker, was one of the designers that worked on the designs for store fronts for Disneyland. His plans for the work I did were always so detailed and clear. My favourite client, ever.
I am in my late 50's and I have Muscular Dystrophy. A year and half ago my diaphragm became paralyzed. I was placed on ventilator and must use 100% of time. I call it Living on life support. 6 months later the rest of my body became 100% paralyzed below the neck. I know, your wondering how I could type this. I have a computer that tracks my eyes. Now, this not a pity party, I have lived an incredible life. I am a retired judge. I served for 9 years. Prior to that I served as Legislative Liaison for the State Senate President. There are many other exciting things that I done and accomplished all from a wheelchair. When I lived in California I would go to Disneyland several times a year. I miss it a lot. Great video with things I didn't know. Thanks for the encouraging words.
It sounds like you did a lot of good in your life -thus far! Still there is life to be enjoyed and making others feeling loved, included and feel their equality should be our highest priority. God bless you in the rest of life’s adventures! BTW, I’ve not accomplished anything close to what you have but, I know I tried to do most everything I did to the best of my ability. I’m now in in my 60’s and I. Trying to redefine my next or rest of my life goals. I had a full liver transplant about 12:years ago. How wonderful.
@@saul.t.2.969 The peace that comes from surrendering to God's will is unmeasurable. Submitting to God's will is completely different than surrendering. Submitting is what happens when a person points a weapon at you. Surrendering is Jesus Christ in the Garden on the night of His arrest and trial. Not my will but His will. Let surrendering percolate and you will understand what I mean, however, with out the saving grace of Jesus Christ, you will never understand.
@@saul.t.2.969 UA-cam AI blocked my reply to your comment. It had to do with the difference between submitting and surrendering to God's will and the unmeasurable peace that comes from surrendering. Anyone can get that. Rich or poor. Black or white. I was wondering if MS shows up in DNA testing before the person gets it?
@@dannydaw59 I don't know anything about MS. I have MD not MS. And yes, it does show up in DNA. MD is not something you acquire, you are born with it. So it something I have dealt with all my life and it is my faith in Jesus Christ that gives me peace and strength.
As a Marine Corps veteran myself, I was specially moved when I heard about the security guards trousers. Very much like how we have the Blood Stripe, they too have it, in respect to the Marine Corps. Must’ve been Walt’s favorite branch!
Thanks a lot for your comments towards the end of your video. I recently became paralyzed down my right side. Right in the middle of that my wife abandoned me one morning while I was asleep. I haven’t seen her since. Thank you for that kind message. I felt like it was directed right at me. I appreciate that. It couldn’t have come at a better time.
I LOVE Chris Provost’s encouraging words in each of his videos! I just introduced his channel to my sister and described him as a modern Fred Rogers. He’s so genuine, gentle, has a child-like wonder… he’s awesome!
Speaking of disabled and people with health issues, next to the gas station in the Oswald area there is a place where they will acomódate you for a better Disney experience for you ❤

The baseballs are an example of the attention to detail that Disney is famous for.
Unfortunately that bit is in error. Red and Blue stitching on baseballs began in 1901 for the American League. The national league began to use red and black stitching in 1911. Both leagues went to all red stitching in 1934. The 1928 tie to the stitching is murky.
The other details in this video are outstanding.
@@blongjohn thanks for the clarification.
“More Buena Vista!” More Disneyland and DCA history!
And never forget just how amazing you are ❤
The level and layers of detail are insane. When my college buddy and I had annual passes, we would go all the time and just walk around saying as we notice all the details “they didn’t have to do that, and they didn’t have to do that, but they did”.
Thanks for the encouragement and I am disabled. We need more people like you Chris that understand that.❤😊
lol
Thank you Chris for ever giving of encouragement and sympathetic support! Lately I’ve had to face mobility challenges and I’ve had to take steps to keep myself able to struggle less while doing fundamental tasks. So again thanks & may you receive good fortune for your words of encouragement.
You are so welcome
“Tell me more, tell me more!”😁
You meeting Oswald is right up there with all those videos of kids meeting their favorite characters. Too adorable. You made my day✨️❤✨️
“More Buena Vista”
This history is absolutely fascinating! It’s crazy how detailed the Imagineers are when creating the parks.
I totally agree!
Ditto!
I’m a 41 year old adult and I haven’t been to Disneyland in 33 years. I don’t watch the movies anymore but all that being said, your video was done very well and gave me so much information on things I had zero idea about. Keep up the great work.
I'm 44 and didn't go to Disney World until I was 27.
More Burna Vista. I really love Disneyland Resort History.
Never knew any of this. Now I can amaze my family. These "Secrets Videos" I feel is your best work. Keep it up Chris! Thanks you!
Wow, thanks!
I’m 62 and disabled and when you stopped and said you wanted to talk to us, it really made my day, thank you very much and I hope one day I can go to Disneyland, I’ve always wanted to. I love TINKERBELL. Thank you for sharing this video and I hope you do more 😊
Part 2.. and 3… and 100… keep on going!! Loved this video.
Thank you! Will do!
Absolutely more Buena Vista Street, please! Love these deep dives!
So much imaginative detarails. Nearly 70 years, hundreds of millions of visitors have no idea.
I thought originally Mortimer Mouse is the first name of what later became Mickey Mouse, based on any history of Disney I have ever heard of before. "Mickey was created as a replacement for a prior Disney character, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. The character was originally to be named "Mortimer Mouse", until Walt Disney's wife, Lillian, suggested "Mickey"."
Hi Chris! These are my favorite kinds of videos!!! I’m a huge Disney history buff so I just love these!!! Thank you so much for doing them, I learn a lot from you!! 💗
You are so welcome!
Very disappointed Alice in Wonderland wasn't with the other books, especially considering the Alice shorts were made in the 1920's.
MORE AMANDA ... MORE AMANDA ... MORE AMANDA !!!!!
Thank you for your acknowledgment of those of us who are physically or emotionally challenged! You have a great heart 🫶.
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much to you and Amanda. I had Ankle tendon surgery a week ago. I know I will recoup but been a little down this week because of my immobility. At the same time I am going through the emotional state of some older parent s who are sick and not doing well. I just wanted you to know that yes, I watch your videos for all of the great facts and fun that you know and give us about Disney. But you're uplifting, talks and positivity always make me feel happy. Please keep up the amazing videos and thanks again!.
Hello. Hang in there. Any foot surgery is a bear. I broke three bones , dislocated my ankle and tore everything in there. I now have six pins and screws in my ankle. It’s been a couple yrs for me to get back to where I was. I’m a 69 yr old woman. I’m actually doing 5K s again. I may not be as fast as I was. But , I’m out there. Let your body take its time to repair its self. Hope your parents are doing better. ❤❤.
Loved hearing the history and especially the little known fats. Thank you so much for taking the time to share all of this. Do stay well and safe!
We would all love to hear more about Buena Vista from you! Thanks for your kindness and compassion for everyone going through tough times.
Love these deep dives! Please keep them coming!
Also, do you have a video about your story? I really appreciate your heart and how you are always trying to uplift people!
This is great! I appreciate all the little details and the amount of thought the designers/ stagers/ imagineers put into these things!
More Buena Vista... More History. AMAZING.
More Buena Vista, please! I really enjoy these secrets/history videos. As always, your positivity and encouragement is appreciated, too ❤ Thank you for building people up
I needed those words of motivation I’ve been completely overwhelmed with sadness and heavy burdens. Thank you so much for taking the time to give us a message of hope.
I NEVER get tired of Disney facts. Always, more more more!!!
I love the trivia. Didn’t know any of that. These are the details that most people miss when they visit.
More Buena Vista! I now have a bunch more trivia ammunition for when I take friends to the park!
I love his message of hope to each person no matter what we are going through that really helps me feel better with what I am going through right now, don't even know the man but feels good to hear.
I love these deep dives! More please and thank you ❤
Chris more Buena Vista secrets please. Great info and thank you and Amanda for keeping us updated and informed. You are the best.❤
More to come!
Great video! More Buena Vista please. I appreciated the moment to speak directly to me. I got some bad news recently and that was encouraging. Thank you.
I only knew about the double header game! And I always wondered why we can only find Oswald stuff in the front! Now I know! Also, thank you for that special message. When I had cancer a few years ago, your videos were a bright light of hope that I'd make it back to Disney again one day. And I did! We went for my cancer-free celebration trip when J finished treatment. So thank YOU for being awesome!!
Yes.... You are talking to me. Thank you so much!
You are so welcome
Another Provost classic!
I love these Hidden Histories (or not so hidden) of this wholesome happy place. More stories like this just help give everything more depth. Keep it up. You’re a star.
I never expected a video about disneyland would hold my interest, but gee was I wrong! It was so interesting to get past all the commercialism & learn about the finer details... thank you. PS I especially appreciated your words of encouragement. Greetings from Australia 👋🦘
Can’t wait for part 100!!
Thank you for the kind words, really helped. My mom is battling cancer and has been detrimental physically and mentally to all. As always, thank you for helping with your words! Keep on Rockin’ in the free world!🙏❤️😎
I was like, Hey Chris there's a pretty lady following you closely out of the Oswald store... and then I was like oh yeah, he's married to her!
That's an amazing bit of information for the Kingswell shop tiles! I'll definitely check it out the next time I visit the resort.
This encounter with Oswald just warms my heart!!! Provost Park is a great channel!
Thank you 💚💙
Am i missing something? Cause mickey does cross to ride the trolley from the front of Buena vista street at the end of the night
Whoa. That’s new to me. Does he get off the trolly?
@provostparkpass check out dca at closing. He definitely rides the trolley back to the entrance of avengers campus. Sometimes hes already on the trolley but hes definitely had to walk up Buena Vista to get on.
@@enchantedtikislol, can't cross the line during his shift.
I spend alot of time with mickey on BVS he definitely crosses the crosswalk, and the kiss goodnight from the main gate trolly stop is definitely part of his shift both he and Minnie start by Elias and Trolley treats and go all the way to the trolley stop; sorry to break the story someone told you, Oswald also goes to Animation on Hollywood Street from time to time
I saw you and met you yesterday at DCA!!!
This was so much fun to watch! Provost Park Pass is our favorite Disney info site. Thank you for all you do. Headed to the park for May the 4th! Maybe we'll see you there.
I just found your video today and stopped after you paused and made such kind and thoughtful words of support and encouragement to those going through a tough time. As a mental health professional, I had to jump in and say how beautiful that was to see. I provide therapy to numerous people whose mental health has been drastically impacted by their physical health. Hearing what you said might have been life changing to them in that moment. The world needs more people like you 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Now, back to your video 😁
Mickey and Minnie have regularly been inside the Trolley in the evenings on the "Oswald" side of the street.
So, maybe the trolley is like the Tardis? ;)
Do they ever get off the trolly tho
I’m not sure if exiting the trolley matters with the idea of never seeing Mickey on one side of the line over the other
There are videos of Oswald by the fountain in the middle. So maybe it changed. Plus the year of the rabbit he was in the back of the park. And never knew about the rest
@@provostparkpassyes... I have seen Mickey walk backstage, somewhere by those restrooms in that area
More video of your wife Amada…she has a beautiful smile.
Lmao that oswald employee killing it so much you had to briefly divert from the fact 😂
*More Buena Vista*
The imagineers matching tiles from Walts house is awesome. This deep dive on Oswald and DCA is great, give us more!
It's just like the DNZ!
Thank you for those kind words, I’m on dialysis and also have mobility problems and it’s hard to move around and struggle a lot thank you for your motivation
You got this!
Thank you for doing the part about the disabled person being important. Because I'm disabled and I really needed to hear that. I matter and can make a difference to I do try to reach out and remind others they matter. And that they make a difference with every life that they touch with just on how you're a smile. The sometimes you feels good to hear that I matter too. Thank you, and just wanted to let you know. This video was actually pretty awesome and I learned a lot. Thank you so much.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Your inspirational, loving, & kind message (19:00) was much needed and I appreciate YOU helping my heart feel better and remembering how valuable I am. Thank you again, you helped someone today! ❤️ Blessings to you & your family!
More Buena Vista!! I LOVE all the detail Disney adds to everything. So fun to learn the trivia, then go to DLand and see stuff in person! Thanks so much!
Chris, I clicked this video because I LOVE learning more about Disney and you do a great job sharing. I watch because I’m going through cancer treatments, today was hard. You pop on and tell us we matter and it made my day. Thank you for your genius and kindness ❤️
I just stumbled upon your video tonight ( May 8th,2024) while I was waiting for my night meds to kick in.
I'm glad I did, I love history and this was right up my alley.
The message you gave about not giving up was perfect timing, I have serious medical issues and I'm waiting for some test results, thank you for the encouraging words and your fantastic video.
More Buena Vista, Please! And Thank You for being so kind! Our cousin's family ran into you at Smoke Jumpers earlier today, and said you were so gracious and kind! Our cousin's daughter was star struck and at a loss for words! She was so sad that she wasn't wearing her Provost Park Pass t-shirt! But at least they got a pic with you! Aloha!
Chris you are awesome. I love watching your videos. Can you please make more of this? I really love these deep dives. Thank you for all that you do.
Thank you for your positive messages in every video Chris.
Chris, I beg to differ about your claim of Walt and Ub working at Universal. What actually happened was that Walt and Ub were asked by Charles Mintz (his distributor) to produce a character that Mintz would, for some reason, would co-distribute with Universal. And after 26 cartoons, Walt and his wife Lillian went to New York, hoping to get a budget increase for the next set of cartoons, Mintz told him that he would only agree to a cut, claiming Universal owned the rights to the character. After refusing Mintz's terms, Walt and Lilly headed back to Los Angeles, and on that train ride, according to legend , was where Walt came up with Mickey Mouse. And finally, Mintz's claim that Universal owned Oswald would come back to bite him, when Universal decided to kick him and his animation staff out and have Oswald produced in-house by Walter (Woody Woodpecker) Lantz.
Chris, love your videos and your style. God bless Amanda as well for assisting you in this back and forth walking. Keep it up.
Thank you for the validating message. I was diagnosed with lupus in February this year, I was glad that I finally had a name to my problems, and I'm trying to be positive and okay with it, but it's still terrifying. I know that I'm not really okay, but I don't want to upset the people I care about.
The message in your video couldn't have come at a better time. Thank you.
I never heard of your channel, but your message to everyone out there struggling made me an instant subscriber....great video too, I'll never forget 1927 versus 1928
Thanks for the Disney love and info, Chris! And thanks for the personal love to each of us! You and your sweet family are appreciated by us all!
You're the best!
This video was exceptionally made so well! I really enjoyed it from beginning to end and never could have imagined there was so much history in the park right in front of us. More please, and thank you
I just wanted to say thank you for that little aside near the end of the video. I walk with a cane and it's often hard not to feel like a burden on my loved ones because of certain things I have a difficult time with. I was feeling especially down while watching your video but that really spoke to me. Thank you
when they first opened Cal Adventure, there was a cast member that worked at Elias and company that was purposely rude. Elias was supposed to be a high end shop and the cast member was supposed to be bothered when a customer wasted his Prescious time. I loved that character.
Whoa. 💚💙
Also funny that Chris was walking past Elias and Company when he asked about more deep dives. That cast member sounds like the guy that checks you in when you eat at the blue bayou.
Not to put too fine of a point on it, but what you explained was that the tile was a hand crafted representation of Walt Disneys' tile and was not, in fact, Walt Disneys' tile. I would love to see the original tile in situ. Don't know how you knew, but your little chat was exactly what I needed at a serendipitous moment.
you caused my heart to feel a little bit lighter, thank you!
Being a world class history nerd who was born in Burbank ,Ca. in 1955 your content holds a particular significance for me. I celebrated my fiftieth birthday there because I promised my 10 yo self I would do so AND stay in the Disneyland Hotel. My entourage included my wife and my 5 yo grandson. That was a party! Much to my wifes' dismay, I arranged for my grandson to "help me" shut down the park at the end of July.
Great video.....Just when I thought I knew everything Disney, you blew me away....Part 2 please! I never knew why the Oswald shop was there in that spot! Very cool! Provost, what kind of camera do u use? The image is amazing! I am a film teacher, is it an Apple phone?
It is. iPhone 15
5:13 just think. If more people stopped beneath that radio and looked at that REAL dollar bill and asked “why does this say ‘Treasury Note’??” it could be the start of getting our republic back. The biggest things we’ve lost since 1927 isn’t Oswald the Rabbit. Its the inherent liberty that comes with real money
Thanks so much for this trivia! I love these really deep dives into the details, so fun. Keep up the great work!
More Buena Vista!! Thank you Chris for sharing!!
Actually, the Spalding brothers bought Reach sporting goods company in 1889. In 1901 they developed and American League ball that was signified by red and blue stitching until 1934 under the Reach name. So it is untrue that red and blue was only 1928. The National League ball had red and black stitching and was the first time the Spalding name was put on a baseball.
More Buena Vista. We love this deep dive into the history. Been going to Disneyland since the 1950’s and we never knew these things. Thanks
Thank you for what you said about people with disabilities and other health issues. I fit in both categories with physical disabilities (joint contractures, vision and mild hearing loss), developmental delays, and severe depression/anxiety. When my mom and I went to Disney World for the first time in 2007, I was 27. We rented a wheelchair at every park except Downtown Disney, do to stamina issues. The one good part about having disabilities is that a lot of times you can go in through the exit and not have to stand in long lines. For shows, wheelchairs tend to get front row seats. My favorite picture that my mom took was at the Lion King show whe Timon kissed my hand. Disney definitely tries to go all out to accommodate people with disabilities.
A shout out to anyone with a disability, you're not alone. At 44, I am an advocate for people with disabilities in Ohio. I am also trying to publish a poetry book for and about people with various disabilities.
His shoes are like shopping cart wheels, and they’ll lock 😎

Thank you. Thank you for your kind words. I needed this today. That and the great Disney info.
Chris your videos are such a light on tough days. I tear up at your kind messages often, but I'm disabled and going through a tough time so this one really hit home ❤
I'm planning a Disney trip for my birthday in fall and learning so much from your videos. I love the history of it all and maybe that's why Oswald is my favorite cartoon of Walt's (just don't tell Mickey that 😂)
More Buena Vista history please!! I love hearing about Disney history! So interesting!❤️
This was also the era where Walt was still in charge, he liked the smallest of details. where even a corner that would be overlooked by 99% of the people had a story to tell.
Love the deep dives. Thanks!
More Buena Vista! My hubby isn’t a big Disneyland fan but he will be soooo impressed at all the stuff I know about the area there 😊
