“i heard yang say a bad word” is one of the most in-character things I’ve heard come out of ruby in ages, like she’s still my fave through the whole series but as time went on I feel crwby forgot to let ruby be a little silly sometimes
Gave Ren more justice in like... 30 seconds than the show has in 10 whole years. Dude was cool for 1 scene in Vol1, had the best dialogue scene in volume 8, and nothing else. Even him being cool against the King Taijitu was one upped in vol2 by Fox doing the same shit using an Ursa as a grenade.
Whoever made 11:55 - 12:02 as well as 12:21 - 12:42 needs a raise. This is the kind of creativity, passion, and effort in animating a RWBY fight than what I see in the actual show
I came here expecting to watch an epic RWBY battle. I was not prepared to see an ENTIRE OG STYLE RWBY EPISODE IN ITS FULL GLORY WHAT THE ACTUAL FU.. [user received detention for this comment].
This brought back so many good memories and made me feel things I never thought I'd feel again with RWBY having gone in directions so unlike the first seasons. Thanks for reminding me why I loved this show so much and for all you guys endured to make this! It's absolutely MIND-BLOWING!
1:36 or so is one of my favorite moments of this fight, because it feels like a hit that *should* knock Pyrrha to the ground for a moment before she recovers and gets back up. Instead, she hits the ground in a roll, bleeds the momentum almost instantly, and rushes back in--which really sells the whole "invincible girl" thing just on an instinctive viewer level, I think.
Full-marks on character through and through for everyone. VA’s varied in quality, but it’s a fan animation, so it gets a pass. What matters is that the characters shined through the dialogue and I was able to immediately get that original feel of older RWBY. There are so many details about that last fight that I’m not sure if the animator and writer even intended, but the recognition of character just flowed so well that it probably just flowed in naturally. Or maybe the writers and animators are just that detail oriented. I don’t know, but it works. Ruby was the fastest at the start of the fight, so she had the easiest time outmaneuvering multiple opponents and grabbed the flag. Her being in the fight meant we saw Team RWBY doing more teamwork vs when she gets taken out and they become spread out without proper leadership. Jaune’s brains was shown perfectly in the capture the flag segment. And I believe it was Judgmental Critter that once said that portraying a character fighting poorly on purpose is difficult to do. The animator accomplished this with flying colors and fully conveyed Jaune’s progression, even if he is failing. He is still thinking on his feet and coming up with plans that should be feedings for his team, even if he himself is unable to perform at the same level at this point in his character. This was possibly the best I’ve seen Ren fight in RWBY since his debut, which is crazy since this is a fan animation. Yet, I can totally see the skill gap between him and Blake easy, which is evened out with Blake’s semblance and her weapon’s reach. Perfection! Nora’s every hit felt powerful as she is supposed to be portrayed. Pyrrha getting a main character focus just fits right in fleshing her out more pre-volume 3 beyond her crush on Jaune, which we could still hints of there. Even mid-combat, we can see a difference between Pyrrha’s focus and Pyrrha being distracted and holding back. Weiss was probably my favorite in how she was handled. The summoning is a departure from the original show canon-wise, but I can easily accept it considering the animators utilized it better in her fighting style vs how the original show does it. The flair and graceful flow that they give Weiss in her fighting style that semi-show-off-y yet also fluidly done as if practiced. I would say only Yang was probably the least displayed, which just tends to happen with so many characters. I would say what was shown best about Yang beyond her hot-headed nature is her focus on raw power to a fault and her ability to roll with the punches (or sword strikes?), which feels like something Yang would do and something Pyrrha could take advantage of. Everyone did their homework it gloriously shows in the finished product. Well-done!
I mean hey, that's how hair was in the early volumes. Yang's and Blake's in particular were...yeesh. I remember a moment where she was messing with her hair (Yang was), and it just all moved as one chunk. I turned to my friend who, like me, has very Yang-like messy hair, and we both were like "Yeah, that's about how it goes. Must be hell to brush."
@@TheCrazydude17It’s funny how I actually remember the specific scene you’re talking about. I didn’t think it left that much of a mark on my psyche LOL
In Volume 1 the hair and cloth was all animated by hand, volume 2 was when they had Physics. Its probably why Noras Bow disappeared in the Action Scenes for Volume 1 and then was never brought back for Volume 2 onwards.
The choreography in this Is amazing. You let every character shine with their strengths and weaknesses while letting their personality show through. But not only did you use their powers in the creative ways we know, you also found new ways to use them. This team made something amazing.
While people are comparing this to Monty's work, I want to add that there were a lot of stylistic angles and ideas that exceeded even old school RWBY. Like at 11:08 how Blake's clone comes in the background at an angle instead of purely in the foreground at a different angle. She then proceeds to circle into the foreground. When Ren jumps over her and she steps back, she only moves back far enough and tracks Ren's attack with a behind the head block, to setup for the arm cut and followup leg cut. These moves are not only stylistically cool, they're tactically sound and stuff I've used in swordplay IRL (I do historical fencing). Like the finger pointing angle at 12:38 with a camera slightly tilted for style is SO damn cool. Seriously love the personal flair given to her.
...This feels like a fever dream in the best possible way. I'm floored by how well done everything is; animation, VA, choreography, dialogue, camera work, semblance usage, weapon usage! It's ALL so well-thought out and fantastic. It's obvious a lot of love and passion was put into this full-length episode (which is incredible in itself as well!). Several times during the episode, I thought to myself, 'wow, this should be in the show proper,' which I thinks speaks to how amazing this is. Not everything is perfect; some of the walking animations were a tad janky and Yang's VA sounded off a couple times, but that's okay. Nothing is perfect in this world and I think you all have captured the heart and soul of early RWBY in a way many have attempted, but few have succeeded. I can't wait to see more in the future (however long that takes.) Bravo. (Also, Ruby's line 'I heard Yang say a bad word.' is easily my favorite and sounds identical to Lindsay! Easily could have been an acutal line of dialouge!)
I voiced both Pyrrha and Ruby! I love any time I get to hop in the shoes of either but Ruby will always have a special place in my heart! I also voice Ruby in the fan project Dust Queen. -Tina
I can not tell you how ecstatic to see everyone being used to their full potential, especially Weiss. Also Pyrrha tussling with her overwhelming skill is just such a nice touch. Man I just miss Pyrrha so much, I need more of this it's great.
I think I've unironically died and gone to heaven. This is incredible, and makes me feel a way I haven't since we lost Monty. You didn't just create something as good as the actual Rooster Teeth team, you massively surpassed it. Every character felt like who they were supposed to be, what they were supposed to be, and were on display with incredible animation and sequences. Though it is a pipe dream, with the fall of Rooster Teeth I hope that perhaps a door is opened for incredible fan animators like yourself in some way.
Team JNPR is my favorite team, Pyrrha and Jaune are my favorite characters. This was an amazing animation. Everything was perfect: the fights, the music, the voice acting... And it feels so good to see team JNPR together once again.
it's one thing to mimic animation style, and it's another thing to replicate the fantastic fight choreography, but the fact the you are able to capture the characters and the tone of the early seasons is simply remarkable
Love the tiny motions, I appreciate the care you put into this. It’s also good to see more of Ren, the guns make him seem very annoying to fight, he’s good at maintaining pressure while Nora does Dps.
I don't know, I think her death was necessary for the future of the show. Speaking from personal experience, you need the mentor character to die or leave the narrative so the apprentice can become independent and rise to the occasion. I disagree with the direction of RWBY's story post volume 3, but Pyrrha dying was a shocking and emotional twist that would have benefited the story in better writers' hands.
This is absolutely insane! I was NOT expecting this level of quality, the fight choreography was 11/10. Pyrrha was done so dirty in RWBY, she was my favorite by far and this was such a great way to remember why that was. God I can't believe they wasted such a cute and cool character.
FINALLY a Proper Fight between RWBY and JNPR, i know we had the food fight in the beginning of volume 2 but that was more played for laughs, this finally shows each team really against each other
On one hand, this reminds me of what I had such umbrage with early on in the series---the main characters taking a backseat to Jaune and Pyrrha getting the lion's share of character development, and relationship development. On the other hand? Everyone cooked in the fights and it was just a joy to see everything I loved about the show also on display here. Y'all put on a show and really made my weekend seeing that. Made me wanna go back into making OCs for this and taking part in this thing again. Kudos to the artists, actors and everything between!
As someone else mentioned, I loved that jaune was a tactical punching bag . And was one of the last ones standing , he actually traded blow with black a fair couple times and even though he went down fast the fact there was an actual exchange shows improvement, and then he snuck yang like twice seemed to wear her out trying to deplete his aura .
The choreography for the fights was insane!! ren and blake's graceful fight, weiss's summoning, the weight on nora's hammer?? Great job to everyone that worked on this and i'm so glad it exists!!
I have stopped watching RWBY because I was just watching a show to end it. I don't know how RoosterTeeth cannot have fight scenes like this! This is so well done and I'm so happy to see all the characters' abilities put to justice ❤
The quality in the action is one thing, the characterization is something else when talking about how good this is. Everyone felt true to who we know of them in their writing, their performance and how they move in and out the battlefield. A hallmark piece of work that I hope all involved are proud of, cause this is some of the best work I've seen of any RWBY fanwork in my lifetime as a fan, massive props all around.
Oh my lord, I didn’t even realize Pyrrha purposely fumbled the Grimm question until I rewatched it multiple times. But you can see a difference in confidence when she stands initially vs when she looks at the class and then stops at Jaune, as if she was making a decision, rather than actually thinking about the question. That on top of Oobleck automatically assuming Pyrrha got it right, it is so subtle I completely missed it.
THIS SHOULD BE F-ING CANON. THIS IS THE OFFICIAL VOLUME 2.5. OMG !!!!!! the fights, the movements, the animaton, the choreography, THIS IS RWBY HERITAGE! MONTY OUM'S HERITAGE. OH MY GOD I felt like i've found RWBY for the first time again oh my god.
There is so much to praise about this, but one aspect in particular I would like to emphasize was how the guns didn’t feel like afterthoughts. I can highlight this a few times to explain what I mean. 7:48 with ren facing Blake & Yang, he’s able to get the upper hand because he brought a _gun_ The scene starting at 10:30 we can see even Pyrrha gets disoriented by rapid gunfire. Finally do I even need to mention 13:37?? This is brutal! Pyrrha returns the favor but still! these are *guns* It doesn’t do Monty’s style justice if guns feel irrelevant or inconsistent.
Team Rwby has monstrous offensive capabilities which makes them very proficient individually, but team JNPR is balanced and works together, not just compensating for weaknesses within their team, but they coordinate to take down their opponents with well timed strategy and teamwork which allows them to exploit weaknesses and set up for precision strikes. What’s more, team JNPR has more combatants that are proficient with the fundamentals of their worlds combat. 11:58 god I love this effect
Bro, that felt like the Ren Monty had in his mind but didn't get to show off much. Reminds me of his scene in the forest in Volume 1 when he fought that giant snake. This might just be a fan project, but everyone understood their assignment. Great action, wholesome slice-of-life, and some fun/comedy. This is the stuff I stuck around RWBY for for the first few volumes. First found you with the Monty animations analysis videos however the heck many years ago that was. Now look at you. 👏👏
These fight scenes are the most Monty-coded animation I've seen since volume 3. Incredible animation that catches the flow and momentum of classic RWBY. Excellent writing, too. This would've felt right in place with the early volumes.
Somehow you've managed to fix all of the issues ive had with rwby in one animation video. Weiss not being useless and popping off with her glyphs, Ren being a total badass and using both melee and gun attacks, Blake just being AWESOME because her fight style drastically got worse in actual rwby seasons, the whole choreography just being so seamless and well put together... thank you
This captured the look and style of early RWBY so well, and it's not just the models making me say that. You've got an incredible eye for Monty's combat and animation style, and the little character beats ring true to each character. Even little bits like Yang's flippant attitude, Ruby being horrified at Yang's language, or Nora being a bit of a troll. You've so perfectly captured what made those early seasons feel like something special.
I’ll be honest, for that opening fight I was half sure that I had simply forgotten an entire fight from V2 or something. I mean I knew that it didn’t happen, and yet here it was before my eyes exactly as it would have happened. In short I think you folks broke my brain.
Thank you forever to the team for creating this wonderful piece and letting me be a part of it. And thank you to the audience for making our work feel special. ❤
Commenting to help engagement. This is video obviously is a passion project from true RWBY fans and makes me realize how much is missing from recent volumes.
Absolute cinema. Everyone who worked on this cooked their hearts out. Seeing an honest to goodness RWBY vs JNPR fight (while playing Capture the Flag no less) is something that has been sorely missing outside of the food fight. As far as I'm concerned, this is canon and takes place at some point between volumes 2 and 3. Bravo.
This was actually spectacular. Im definitely not the first to say this, but you've definitely captured the spirit of the classics, from the humor to the direction and the character of the, er, characters! I commend everyone who worked on this. Thanks so much for reminding me what it was I loved about RWBY!!!
This gave me such nostalgia! I felt like I was back watching early RWBY the fight scenes were incredible and the story was so well written for a 15 min video. 10/10
I love all the little movements given to Pyrrha in this so far. Her nervous body language in just about every shot is a joy to look at. People comment almost every video so far on how they're amazed at your ability to recapture the charm of early RWBY animation, jank and all. You've managed to fix one of early and even modern RWBY's weaknesses though, and it is the little bits and bobs of movement people have, both while talking, thinking, and idle. The main example that comes to mind is how often times characters aren't animated breathing in certain scenes. For example, 4:35 is a moment that's already got a clear focus, but the nameless background Character in the shot still has subtle animation given to him. A lot of animation projects, especially indie ones, have that kind of issue. The object(s) of focus are animated perfectly fine, but the things that aren't meant to be focused on are almost lifelessly still. There are also times where the characters themselves have extremely stoic body language, even if the character themselves is meant to be expressive in such an area. It makes the interactions where that's the case feel incredibly stilted, or worse, forced. You guys have done SPECTACULARLY in avoiding that with this. Especially with Pyrrha given just how well conveyed her nervousness is with just body language. Also, of course, the amazing VA you got for her. Massive props to her.

Thank you so much for the hard work everyone put into this. I'm always so honored when I get to voice Ruby Rose but even more so to get to lend my voice as Pyrrha as well for this. This was recorded so long ago but still so cool how it all turned out!
Much love guys!
You did Really well Voicing them both! Thank you for your hard work on voicing both of these beloved Characters!
You sounded exactly like Pyrrha. Kudos!

“i heard yang say a bad word” is one of the most in-character things I’ve heard come out of ruby in ages, like she’s still my fave through the whole series but as time went on I feel crwby forgot to let ruby be a little silly sometimes
Ren was with it. He was on some sort of timing.
remember when Ren used to actually be strong and not an emotional Wreck?
brother was, for lack of a better term, cracked
He was tired of getting his shit kicked in.

Ren and Gambol Shroud have never looked this good my god. I will be replaying this for ages to come!
literally, Ren's palm strike & Blake's ribbon combo were sick
YEAAAAAAAAAAH! Absolutely sublime 1v1.
Same !
One of the better fights in this Fan Animation. 😊
This is the kind of creativity, passion, and effort in animating a RWBY fight than what I see in the actual show
That would be Project ROSE member, Hydro! We all did this work without pay but I'll pass on the well wishes!

I really miss the OG art style, this is so cool!!
Yang gives 0 fucks this episode gotta love it
Technically she gave one...

Well-done!
HA! Pyrrha's ponytail just spinning like a windmill!
Damn! Nora hit Ruby so hard it replayed 3 different times!😭
You know it hit hard when they replay it many times (combat sports/restling style)
...This feels like a fever dream in the best possible way.
I can't wait to see more in the future (however long that takes.)
Bravo.
Man it's been a while since I've seen Ren do the palm strike thing yall did every character justice.
Hydro killed that section. I was so happy with Ren this whole project
The show's writers decided he would be more "interesting" without advanced Aura use, I suppose.

Finally someone did ren justice
He only did that move once in the show lol and not at THIS LEVEL.
Pyrrha: I am the Invincible girl!
Cinder: I'm about to end this woman's whole career
Lamenting over the loss of soul the OG series. This helps repair the cracks.
Nora devouring those pancakes killed me😂
Monty would be proud.
The animation is incredibly well done, the humour is on point, and the story feels like the first 3 seasons.
Rooster teeth shutting down. This will be legendary
Love the tiny motions, I appreciate the care you put into this. It’s also good to see more of Ren, the guns make him seem very annoying to fight, he’s good at maintaining pressure while Nora does Dps.
I love the fact that they carried the ‘Weiss Sneeze’ joke from the last OVA into this one
Pyrrha deserved better than to be the Uncle Ben of RWBY.
Agreed!
…so the dead is canon event ,I see
(I need meme)
@@littlenice-ve5pbGod, I hope not 😑
I mean her name is literally 'Pyrrhic Victory' and is based of Achilles so I don't know how anyone didn't see her fate a mile off
I don't know, I think her death was necessary for the future of the show.
Playing that little bit of Forever Fall while Pyrrha and Jaune were having the talk mid-battle really welled up those tears 😢😢😢 Amazing work!
This is absolutely insane! I was NOT expecting this level of quality, the fight choreography was 11/10.
Pyrrha was done so dirty in RWBY, she was my favorite by far and this was such a great way to remember why that was.
God I can't believe they wasted such a cute and cool character.
Bro, the fact that this video did not get 1M views is a crime. The choreography and dialogue is god-sent. Earned a subscriber!
Just gotta share it around. It's still pretty early in. We weren't aiming for a million we hoped to get 100k at least
Definitely should have got this in the show, I'm hyped!
Now this puts a smile on my face
i haven't been glued to the screen with a rwby fight since volume 3 . Amazing job
This is peak fan animation right here, gave me pure nostalgia and made me feel the excitement I felt watching rwby for the first time ❤
THIS SHOULD BE F-ING CANON.
7:48 with ren facing Blake & Yang, he’s able to get the upper hand because he brought a _gun_
The scene starting at 10:30 we can see even Pyrrha gets disoriented by rapid gunfire.
This person made Ren actually DO things. Holy crap. Don't think I've ever seen anyone do that.
Somehow you've managed to fix all of the issues ive had with rwby in one animation video. Weiss not being useless and popping off with her glyphs, Ren being a total badass and using both melee and gun attacks, Blake just being AWESOME because her fight style drastically got worse in actual rwby seasons, the whole choreography just being so seamless and well put together... thank you
Pyrrah being Captain Mistral is everything ive ever wanted to see.

this is too beautiful to relive Mounty's work, the original Vol1, the original fights and especially Phyrra :') thank you so much for making this.
Bravo.
12:20 Bro! This is the best Choreography I've ever seen with Weiss like holy hell!
This was actually spectacular. Im definitely not the first to say this, but you've definitely captured the spirit of the classics, from the humor to the direction and the character of the, er, characters! I commend everyone who worked on this. Thanks so much for reminding me what it was I loved about RWBY!!!

I wish Ren was like this in show
This gave me such nostalgia! I felt like I was back watching early RWBY the fight scenes were incredible and the story was so well written for a 15 min video. 10/10
Thank you for letting Ren do that awesome aura palm blast after years of him not doing it ever again. 😥🙏
