You can also make it follow the pen. I have made a lot of chain, rope, and braid brushes using this technique. It’s also good for dungeon wall which can be organic instead of orthogonal. (Like cave walls)
Yes, if the brush is not long you can make it directional! Which, like you said is perfect for ropes and chains! :) However, if you make a long frame with a long design that goes through it, it won't curve correctly :/ Or at least it doesn't for me... although I'm open to learning if you know a way :)
