6/6/23: ALCS - Pride Month: The Stonewall Uprisings

  • Did you know that Pride started as a protest called the Stonewall Riots? The uprising happened because Police tried to raid the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village in New York City. The Stonewall Riots were followed by several days of demonstrations in New York and was the catalyst for the formation of the Gay Liberation Front as well as other gay, lesbian and bisexual civil rights organizations. It's also regarded by many as history's first major protest on behalf of equal rights for homosexuals.
    Pride Month honors those who were part of the most important gay rights protests and is a reminder that Pride can still fight for our rights. It wasn’t until 1999 that June officially became Pride Month in the USA. It has since grown into a massive celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community. Video Link: • How the Stonewall Riot...

    The GSA will be hosting the following events throughout June to celebrate Pride:
    June 6th - Stonewall Uprisings Livestream
    Throughout the week there will be pride stickers, pins, and coloring sheets available during lunches
    June 9th - Recent Victories Livestream
    & DRESS DOWN in rainbow colors or your flag’s colors if you feel comfortable doing so
    June 11th @ 11:30am - meet ALCS for the Albany Pride Parade! We will be meeting at Dunkin Donuts on the corner of Madison and Lark to watch the parade
