It's not always about reformulation, I heard dracodoc explain it the best using olive oil, think of it this way. You buy the ingredients to make your scent, it sells out and you need to order more, they might have a new crop of Olives, then it sells out again and you go back to order it and they don't have any of the same ingredients left but they might come back and say we have these Olives. If that makes sense. If not go listen to him and he will explain it a lot better.
I received a very similar response from Nishane about my new bottle of Hacivat. I posted the response on Fragrantica. I want to believe them when they say they haven’t changed anything, but my bottle is not even a little strong. You have to put your nose right up to it. I’m really hoping after some time passes it begins to strengthen.
The scent of Sedley 2019 bottle stays with me around 6 hours with great projection for the first few hours. I have been wearing this around 2/3 of the bottle now and I dont feel any change in the performance whatsoever. I guess when ppl talk about poor performance, it's because they often make a comparison to other PDM fragrances which last much longer than Sedley.
I love PdM and I wanted to like Sedley so badly, because I lean toward fresher fragrances and I think this bottle is so gorgeous. I still have my 2ml sample from Scent Split from last year, so I maybe I should see if it impresses me a bit more now.
Yes this is good...please we need more of this with all the popular ones...thank you for showing this...now we can know if it worth buying current batches
Could you write your batch numbers for each bottle? I just got the new one, but I believe have a pressurized sprayer. Would love to compare the batch numbers. I love the scent! Thank you for the video. 😊
Ive been awaiting for this one. I felt tricked by PDM with that first version. In my skin projection and longevity were negligible and i felt so disappointed.

In my case, I will prefer to invest on Lautus as soon as I can go to the US again, rather than to go to another Sedley. I can even go on more sprays if I want it heavier. Thanks for your video Steven !
This one is overlooked - definitely overtaken Percival as my go to warmer day cologne... as far as PDM goes. I enjoy Percival, but Sedley is old school classical.
Great comparison and something I’ve always wondered since I heard about the 2020 version. I absolutely love Sedley even before I purchased it last year.
I'm not so sure if this really was never formulated. If it wasn't formulated, then why does the box my 2/24/2020 production date Sedley tester came in say "reformulated" right on it?
I had the same thing happen with my newer/ “lighter” bottle of Rasasi Hawas. I was convinced I somehow got a bad bottle as it started strong and just fell flat. Aside from its initial use, I decanted 5mL for a friend. Revisited it at a later time and it was the beautiful Hawas powerhouse that I remember 😍😍 Got Sedley inbound as I write this!!
by chance, did the sprayer go back to the og sprayer? or is it still controllable on the new 2020 version. I got a 2020 version and the sprayer is not controllable.
Steven, I was really looking forward to this review so thank you for the info! I adore this scent ever since I received a sample of it from Nordstrom's last November. I even like the see through bottle design. By the way, love the Red Dead Redemption shirt! 🤠
I could be wrong but I think those two things are part of the same trajectory. Meaning, it will get stronger and stronger until it reaches its strongest, which it then will begin to denature. Just like the nature of any living thing--it grows, it peaks, then it dies. Make sense? I don't think he was saying that it simultaneously get stronger and goes bad.
I‘ll test the 2019 Batch tomorrow it was half a year left with a big dent of oxygen. The performance last year was very disappointing, but the smell was very nice
Meh they told me also Layton got not reformulated. I have an older batch sample here it smells so awesome and fills a room with one spray! And the 2019 batch smells extremely sweet and misses out the freshness of the old batches. I dont notice any apple as well on the new batch. They could just put more perfume oil in the bottles instead of water, wich would cost them maybe 50 cents more in production for a perfume that costs 200+ bucks! But meh, you should spray it more often so you have to buy new bottles more often.
Good Lord. This is impossibly specific and is exactly what I needed to hear! I bought Sedley back in December and the last month I've been wearing it I've been catching whiffs of it five to six hours after applying it, which is absurd considering my history with it. I really thought it was just a weak performer though I absolutely adored the scent so I wasn't too disappointed. I recently quit smoking too so my smell is getting better but I really think it sitting for awhile really did help it! One question, if you don't mind. I recently bought my first bottle of creed aventus about a month ago and didn't get much out of it other than some nondescript sweetness and a ton of black currant. I'm not a fan of black currant at all but the previous aventus I've smelled I really enjoyed so I figured it was just a matter of it being balanced. My question is, if I give that a good 15 to 20 sprays and let it sit for a bit do you think it's possible for some of those other notes to shine through? I understand this could be a hard question to answer considering the variations in aventus. Thank you so much for the channel man you are so fucking sweet and kind it's ridiculous. Pardon my language.
Thank you so much for all of the kind words. I sincerely appreciate it, and I'm glad that you're enjoying my channel. I think giving it 15 to 20 sprays may help it a little bit. You have to let it sit for at least a month, but also keep in mind that the top notes are usually the ones to go first. The end product will be something that is base heavy, and it may not reflect the whole composition. I would also suggest joining the aventus lounge on Facebook and checking to see what people say regarding your batch. There is an Excel spreadsheet in the group that has all of the batches listed and what connoisseurs of the fragrance say each batch smells like. I really hope this helps. Have a wonderful day.
@@Redolessence Thank you for responding! I'll give it a try. I've never heard of the Aventus lounge but that sounds exactly like something that would help me, I'll check it out.
On my first test, I think this lasted around 8 hours for me. But I also found with the original that it varied in performance depending what I was doing. I will say the projection seems very strong, but I often go anosmic to this sadly. Overall, happy to have it, I actually like the fresh fragrance from PdM. I need only Percival now and I have the three main "freshies." Interesting fragrance and I agree, hard to say it smells like anything I know.
Amazing content Steve !! I was wondering if increasing oxygen content in the bottle is a rule to both increasing performance and making the oil go rancid ? Also is it related to the concept that some companies put a sign of 36 or 48 months,Does it signify shelf life of the fragrance ? What will happen after that time?
Hello and thank you for the insightful video, I recently purchased two bottles of PdM (Herod and Oajan 2021 vintages) from an "reputable" online fragrance shop from Canada and have been disappointed with my purchase. I had tested these same bottles at a Neiman Marcus just weeks ago and remember the scent of these two bottles lasting a very long time however the ones that I just received are somewhat weak. I've been trying to look for clues to see if it is a fake but am not sure. Anyway you point me in the right direction as to what to look for? Will the scents get better in due time? Thanks in advance.
Hi Steven - thanks for another great video - I have tested most PDMs but not Sedley - I was thinking of purchasing a bottle but I have seen a few people comment that it is similar to Creed Viking which I already own and this has made me hesitate - do you think it is worth owing both?
Kept asking myself how would I know which bottle stores are keeping in stock. You know, I also have this problem with my Ombre Leather. I thought it was just me.. but apparently a few people claim to also have longevity issues with the first batch.
when i first became interested in fragrances, i look for some designer options. and your vids are always helpful, and you also always reply every single time i ask on the comment even if the vids are from years ago and even the weirdest comment i sometimes intend as a joke. immediately i fell in love with this channel. helpful advice, insightful thoughts, and no drama. now ive become more familiar with the terms, some smells and getting into niche i got more in love with this channel, it gives me the exact info i want to know. thanks for always giving good vids. really interested trying out your navitus, but i cant order it to my country and also we have this new "regulations" because of that cov19.. sigh.. i hope i could try it soon
Wow. Your comment truly made my day! I will always try to reply. I value the fact that people watch my channel and benefit from it in some way. Thank you so much for supporting. What country do you live in?
@@Redolessence i live in Indonesia. i don't really understand the regulation stuff. but i often order things from japan or china, and now it stuck in the harbor and doesnt seem to be moving soon. things i got from those countries are mostly accessories, toys, etc so its okay because it won't go bad. but im afraid to order perfume or such, because maybe it will get bad
Thank you for clarifying this information Steven. I was wondering why my old sample of Sedley comes off richer than my new bottle but this would make sense. Time and oxygen will tell :-)
I also live in NJ.When the world finally reopens, where is the best niche fragrance store in our area ? Even if I have to go into the city. Or if you could recommend a couple to cover more brands.
I started wondering about the "reformulation" of Sedley after a few friends of mine asked me if they should wait for the current batch to come out. I really appreciate your opinion on this.
I think they're both unique in their own way. Elysium works particularly well in the summertime. However, Sedley contains mint which is one of my favorite notes.
What other fresh fragrances does Sedley remind you of? It shares a lot of notes with Versace Eros (which I dislike). Would you consider Sedley unique scent? Keep up the great content!
@@Redolessence is there anyway that I can send you some pictures on Instagram and can you help me identify if my bottle is authentic I’m pretty sure it is! It was given to me from a close friend and when I spray it i get a lot of rose and rhubarb! And the scent will last me about 10 hours on my skin! Please help

Its had me reluctant to buy it off trusted online sites.

Thank you so much for your insight! I really appreciate you stopping by. Have a wonderful day.
Hi
I want cool and fresh sents. do you sudjest Marly Sedly or Greenly or sujjest Maison fransis Kurkdjian??
If you buy from discounters, would you be more likely to receive the older 2019 batch?
What about the new reformulated with 82 % that I see on newer bottles?
The 2022 and 2023 batchs are the best so far they are so good
Amazing content Steve !! I was wondering if increasing oxygen content in the bottle is a rule to both increasing performance and making the oil go rancid ? Also is it related to the concept that some companies put a sign of 36 or 48 months,Does it signify shelf life of the fragrance ? What will happen after that time?
I'd love to know this too
Hadn’t heard about the batch variations rumors with this one. I personally haven’t had any issues with my 2019 bottle. Great information, Steven.
Many thanks!
How to know whether I have the new batch 2020 or 2019 ?? Any idea
I got the L 01 00 99 02 batch! Can Simone tell me wich year it is?
I have the same batch, can't figure out if its the newer or older batch either
Enjoyed the video! Thanks for the info!
Glad it was helpful!
Appreciate this great and informative update! I've got the new batch! Also, I learned what a pressurized atomizer is today. :)
Glad it was helpful!
Very informative content . Thanks for that. Kind regards from Bonnie Scotland 🏴. Keep safe
I'm happy to help! Thank you for watching.
You are wrong .This fregrence doesnot log lasts mor than one houer.
Is there any way of knowing which batch you got if you buy it from discounters. Considering that discounters may have the non reformulated version.
Thank you for breaking this down. I was wondering about the reformation.
Glad it was helpful!
I'm not familiar with either formulation of this so it's great to learn more about the scent itself and the differences ☺ appreciate it.
Thank you so much for stopping by.
Kept asking myself how would I know which bottle stores are keeping in stock. You know, I also have this problem with my Ombre Leather. I thought it was just me.. but apparently a few people claim to also have longevity issues with the first batch.
Does this "oxygen dent" that you mention enhance every fragrance ? or does it only work for specific ones ? Thank you !
It enhances every fragrance, but also keep in mind that it also contributes to the degradation of the fragrance over time.
Thank you for all the info just got this one and Layton 👌🏾
I'm happy to help. Have a great day.
when i first became interested in fragrances, i look for some designer options. and your vids are always helpful, and you also always reply every single time i ask on the comment even if the vids are from years ago and even the weirdest comment i sometimes intend as a joke. immediately i fell in love with this channel. helpful advice, insightful thoughts, and no drama.
now ive become more familiar with the terms, some smells and getting into niche i got more in love with this channel, it gives me the exact info i want to know.
thanks for always giving good vids.
really interested trying out your navitus, but i cant order it to my country and also we have this new "regulations" because of that cov19.. sigh..
i hope i could try it soon
But the first batch had more oil concentration
i have a 2020 batch but the sprayer ist like your 2019 bottle?
Thank you for clarifying this information Steven. I was wondering why my old sample of Sedley comes off richer than my new bottle but this would make sense. Time and oxygen will tell :-)
Excellent!
Good review Steven keep striving
Thank you so much!
Thanks bro for the info for my purchase what else is possible now?
I'm heading to Nordstrom with Sedley on my mind! Is there a way to determine which batch?
Hey Steven, any differences in the bottle? even if they’re small changes like the seams on the sides. Also I’ve heard recent batches have 7 digits.
You should show batch codes on those to be more informative?
Steve, this is interesting, but people say Parfums de Marly Layton 2018 is poor(2-3h. longevity )and worst than 2019. how do you explain it?
I will have to try the new version. Thank you for recommending it.
Redolessence you’re welcome)
Thank you so much redolence for let us know about it ; very pofesional from you
Thanks!
I also live in NJ.When the world finally reopens, where is the best niche fragrance store in our area ? Even if I have to go into the city. Or if you could recommend a couple to cover more brands.
I would recommend the following stores in NY: Aedes de Venustas, Osswald, Perfumariē, Saks 5th Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, and MiN NY.
I started wondering about the "reformulation" of Sedley after a few friends of mine asked me if they should wait for the current batch to come out. I really appreciate your opinion on this.
I'm always happy to help. Thank you so much for watching. I hope you're doing well.
@@Redolessence I'm doing extremely well, I hope you & the family are too!
Hello! Trying to decide between Sedley and Elysium. What do you suggest?
I think they're both unique in their own way. Elysium works particularly well in the summertime. However, Sedley contains mint which is one of my favorite notes.
Excellent video my friend 🙏🏻👌👌👌
Thank you so much. I hope you're staying safe and well.
I wonder what the scientific explanation is about oxygen making the perfume scents more intense.
What other fresh fragrances does Sedley remind you of? It shares a lot of notes with Versace Eros (which I dislike). Would you consider Sedley unique scent? Keep up the great content!
Would there be any difference between a 2019 bottle of delina and a 2021 bottle?
No! The formulation should be exactly the same
@@Redolessence is there anyway that I can send you some pictures on Instagram and can you help me identify if my bottle is authentic I’m pretty sure it is! It was given to me from a close friend and when I spray it i get a lot of rose and rhubarb! And the scent will last me about 10 hours on my skin! Please help
Oxygen will make it stronger or go bad so is it a gamble to let it msarate
I didn’t copy … oxygen made the fragrance go bad and stronger ?
Hi brother Steven
I wait this review coz I would like to buy this fragarance but have many opinion about longevity .
Thank you so much for watching. I hope you enjoyed the video.
Nice review as always. I have the 2020 version, and love rhe scent, and on my skin, it lasted a long time.
Good to know!
I am currently testing 5 PDM'S: PEGASUS,LAYTON,SEDLEY,GALLOWAY and PERCIVAL. The only one i really like is Galloway,it's simple but good. Still need to test Pegasus. Sedley is way overpriced for a Blue fragrance🤷♂️. After all the hype this brand gets im kinda disappointed overall. Love your channel btw 👌🤞👍
Best looking PDM bottle!🤙🤘👍
I also like the way it looks. I also prefer the older pressurized atomizer.
You are the first reviewer that has not just completely dunked on the 2019 version. Everyone else that I've seen (several) say basically avoid it all costs (2019...they say MAKE SURE ITS 2020). I understand you are friends with the creator, but having followed you a while, I also think you are not one to simply 'tow a line' for someone. Why is everyone else basically crapping on it? Its had me reluctant to buy it off trusted online sites.
Hey Steven, I want to order some of your fragrances but I know you live in the tri state area and I'm concerned about the shipping delays. Are your customers currently getting their orders on time?
Hello! Thank you so much for wanting to support. It means a lot to me. Unfortunately, there are some delays with USPS, but packages are still arriving safely.
Why does this fragrance remind me of creed GIT?
There are certainly a lot of bright and citrusy elements in both of them.
Here we go again! Batch code?
My old one is 917901, and my new one is 005903.
@@Redolessence TKX! 👍
nice review mate, but to be honest, its a fantastic smell , but its not worth to pay 285$$$???, that one deserves 120$$ i think because the scent deserve that.
Excellent video. Appreciate the detailed thoughts and interesting view on this topic. Love Sedley as well and consider to get me a bottle.
Steven if it's no bother can you give me lot numbers of both bottles.
Great video
Thank you so much for stopping by. Warm regards.
Thank you very much
I think I'll go and get it
Thanks for watching!
Thanks man is there a clone for it
